Ha! I did it! I'm ... zzzzzzzz....

Wow... so I finally did something I had wanted to do since last
spring:

EVATHON

I watched the entire TV series and both movies within 48 hours
(Japanese track with sub, if you care). I'm rather teetering on the
edge of emotional exhaustion right now...

A few thoughts on this, my third series viewing:

1) Kaoru says "Wait... Lillith? Now I understand!" right before he
surrenders to Shinji. What is it that he suddenly understood?

2) Second half of End of Evangelion... my only words to describe are
"terrible beauty."

3) If you try something like this, order Chinese delivery, and lots of
it... and have snacks ready. Also, don't start at nine at night. Had I
started in the morning, I might have finished within 24 instead of 48
hours.

On the other hand, I might have gone certifiably insane. My roommate
probably wouldn't like that.

In all seriousness, watching the series through for the third time is
an incredibly different experience than the first. The shock is gone,
even though I have at least one shocking plot revelation I didn't
notice before every time I watch it. And I still care, immensely,
about the characters, fictional though they may be. Somehow I'm more
ready to go on with my own life tomorrow now that I've experienced the
thing the whole way through.

In response to your first question. Watch that scene multiple times, then
listen to what he says when he talks to Shinji and the answer sits right
there.
