Hi Chols,
yep i find great value in rec.martial-arts. very little spam,
very high value discussion of martial-art training methods,
style differences,
competition, weapons, legal & selfdefence issues.
yes there is also a lot of 'locker-room talk' (profanity & gross
sexuality etc) but if you can handle that, it is well worth your
while. while there are some very vocal posters who love to denigrate
'traditional martial arts', they have some very good reasons for doing
so. Luckily Judo is one of the few tradtional martial arts that gets
a lot of respect :-)
if you are only interesting in specifically Judo, then it is not very
good. But a few Judo topics do come up every couple of weeks, and
there are 4 or 5 very experienced Judokas who read and post there, on
a variety of topics
cheers,
charlie
Chols.

most people find it is the inferior version. it is very 'pro-TradMA',
to the extent that it drives away combat-sport people from
participating, as well as many very experienced trad-friendly martial
artists.

certainly, you get used to quickly assessing whether you're interested
in the discussion by its title, and pressing the 'ignore' key, so you
no longer have to read those posts or see their headers
also there are a few wacko's you can PLONK that will reduce the
traffice (eg. liberator)
anyway cheers,
charlie
