2300's are fine. The camera runtime will be a little longer than they
suggest.

I must say it's sooo much better to have a camera that uses AA's...very
convenient and cheaper i think.

The Fuji S2 Pro uses rechargable NmH batteries as well as a Lithium battery
and it runs down the NmH ones very quickly and it a bloody pain in the arse.
If you go out for a days shooting you must take a couple of spare sets. It
is actually a decent camera that uses NmH bateries but may be the only one.

I have the S5000 fuji with 3 sets of rechargeable, with a two/three hour
charge recharge. I get at least 100 pictures per charge so I have no reason
to go up to lithium (higher charge) as I do not need them. When one set
goes dry I immediately charge them from the van, with an ac charger unit
installed.
If I buy up I will go lithium but not until these wear out, three sets gets
me through any wedding or natures picture sessions.
I buy 2000 mah minimum. You are right the lithium's are stronger but I just
don't need the storage right now.

I have a horrible aversion to lithium based power source partly because I
want to standardise my equipment on AA NiMH's
Just imagine having to take 2 or 3 lithium units as spares - i mean for 2 or
3 different bits of kit

The ten power is good for most all that you will do.
I guess you and I have kid camera's, but don't worry, I entered film
contests back into the early 60s with a cheap KOWA slr and I won some nifty
credentials but I dared not let those, who had thousand dollar cameras, know
that they got snuckered by a kids toy.
Taking good pictures takes practice, having a 500 dollar camera is probably
all that you or I need for taking good pictures.
Carol, if that is your name, I look for a camera that takes good pictures
and I no longer buy Sony because they use weird batteries and having AAs ,
in my camera's gives me the advantage, by going to a corner store and
purchasing off the shelf batteries in an emergency.
The most important thing is to purchase a good set of AAs with 2300 or more
Mah and that should do the trick. But, I also bave some 1800s and will buy
up when they die, though, I get about 100 pictures, with many (using Fuji
s5000) being in flash mode.
Believe me, let no one kid you, that the important thing is Mah if both
types have the same ( lithium etc.) then both will die in the same amount of
time. The difference is in the chemical make up and its ability to hold a
charge. I would have to go into boring details if I were to prove this, so
I wont.
Like you, my NMH batteries do me well. "But "be careful you do not charge
unless your batteries are really low or else they will charge lower and
lower each time. That is one of the reason many manufacturers recommend
Lithium, its chemical make up allows for frequent charging.
To us with toy cameras.
Good luck
Keith

Can you imagine going away on vacation with bespoke camera battery, bespoke
cell phone battery, bespoke PDA battery, bespoke GPS battery (it is a hiking
vacation) taking one in each appliance and another for spare just in case it
discharges miles from a battery charger power source?
Cost = far too much not just in terms of humble dosh but also in terms of
inconvenience, risk and loss of appliance when it may be needed most of all
IMHO gove me a handful of AAs anytime
