I'm just curious to know if there are any Judoka who read this
newsgroup who have MS, or some other type of progressive disease. I'm
not sure if I'm posting to the appropriate place, and if you have an
FAQ, please direct me to it.

I'm very interested to see who
else out there might be experiencing the same types of things as I.
Thank you.

Not me. I'm 32 yeras old and I haven't got problems on my joints at all.
Some old muscular injuries, maybe. But not MS at all. All depends on how you
understand what judo is. If you think judo is a kind of brutal wrestling,
you maybe will find MS. If you think on the gentle way, you have nothing to
be afraid of.

Thanks for your encouraging words. I can't wait to start plaing again.
I played as a kid, but it's been years. I'm a little aprehensive about
my own limitations, but my eagerness to try it again outweigs my fear.

I just returned to Judo after a layoff following my MS diagnosis. My focus in
training has changed. I found a wonderful sensei (my former sensei passed
away) who is willing to work with my strengths and ignore my weaknesses. I now
focus on teaching the youth who wish to become involved in Judo rather than
competing as I once did. There are days when I can do a lot more than others.
On those days I work on learning kata and learning more throwing techniques.

The best I can say is know yourself and find a sensei who can work with you.

Thanks, Gayle. Your words are encouraging. I have found a terrific
sensei and we've discussed my concerns at length. I'm not his only
student with MS, so it's a comfort to know he's absolutely willing to
work with my limitations, and the other players are terrific, too.
