What exactly *is* the dark moon? It's "Lilith's Egg", okay, but does that mean
it's been around since the start of life on Earh? If so, where has it been all
this time?
Where did all the extra Longinus Lances come from? Was Lilith, Gendo, or
someone willing them to be there?
Some character made a comment about the Eva series returning to their "true
forms". What is this true form? Does this mean that their biological bodies,
under the bindings, change appearance to match the souls within?
Why does Unit 01 have to be crucified before Third Impact?
And as to the implications of the ending: Did Shinji really kill her? Why was
she still in physical form, anyway? Did Shinji somehow drag her back with him?
--R--
Yes.
> If so, where has it been all this time?
Buried underneath Japan. The Geofront is the Black Moon.

The ones that the Eva Series used? Artificially created copies. They
are inferior to the original, but have some of the same capabilities.

I can't remember, but I believe it has to do with the purpose that the
EVA were made for.
> Why does Unit 01 have to be crucified before Third Impact?
It looks cool. You could make a bunch of symbolism up about how the
removal of all pain must be started by immense pain, but honestly, it
looks cool.
> And as to the implications of the ending: Did Shinji really kill her?
No. When you get a legal copy of the film, things will be a lot
clearer. Asuka touched Shinji's cheek, and he stopped choking her. She
gets up and says "This sucks."
>Why was she still in physical form, anyway? Did Shinji somehow drag
her back with him?
You'll really see the film differently when the legal copy is out.
There is a huge conversation explaining that people can return to life
now that Shinji cancelled Instrumentality. It's repeated several
times. I'm guessing that the subtitling of the version you saw was
off.
Peter Svensson | http://www.comicboards.com/manga
Not on my legal R2 French copy. She touches his check, he stops, begins
crying, and Asuka says "How pathetic". The end.

Definetely, this is explained much better then it was on my old HK
bootleg I bought off eBay. Hopefully they will put a bunch of nice extras
on the R1 release for me to justify buying that one too. The French release
is pretty light in the extras department.

Shinji cancelled it? He cancelled it for himself, obviously, since he was
expelled from Lilith's body, but everyone else is still LCL-ified, right? We
saw them rising as cross-shaped beams of light away from the earth..
--R--
Yui told Shinji that anyone who had the will to live could live again.
You can interpret this many ways, but IMO, it basically means that
anyone who turned into Tang can come back to life.
He did not cancel it and he may very well have been excluded along with
Asuka.
What he did do was make a choice for all of us to choose on our own.

Tang? Is that like orange soda or something? I don't wanna turn into orange
soda frankly!
Close enough. It's a powder you mix with water to get an orange
juice-like drink. =D
*shakes her head sadly* No, Tang is non-carbonated. ^_~ More of a...orange
kool-aid. Yeah. That's closer.

Pfft, I have the bestest ever REAL orange juice in the whole wide world.
Superior to any and all imitations similar or exact. It's a concentrate of
OJ. Makes 2L's and you can get it in bulk cartons of 8 tins. Lasts forever
and tastes out of this world. The best bit though is that even though it's
that concentrate stuff it's got NO PULP! *CHEER!*
Ahhhh, at least it's not the red stuff! *Cringes*
Hey it's the drink of the astronauts, or at least it was at the start of
the space program, until they figured out how to get them real food.

"I want there to be people again."
And given that the Instrumentality had everyone's souls enter into
Adam/Lillith, and that at the end, their souls all exit Adam/Lillith,
it sure seems like cancelling to me.
Whatever Instrumentality was meant to be, it obviously is not in that
state at the end of the film.
>and he may very well have been excluded along with Asuka.
No conclusive proof on the part of Asuka. I agree that Shinji wasn't
treated like the rest of humanity, but he probably was liquified at
the very least.

True, but the status quo for the solid challenged is pretty up in the
air. Without Adam/Lillith or the MP EVA, or the Lance, I doubt that
the Sea of LCL could remain stable.
Probably you either come back, or die.
Peter Svensson | http://www.comicboards.com/manga
Yeah that's the stuff!
Yeah, it's just you, no one else, yer weird. Definitely!
Listen hard dense head, it had a number of outcomes, the one that Shinji
choose was one of them! Not the only one, but the only one chosen. It's not
something that you start and stop it got started, everyone entered Lilith as
a part of the process. Then Shinji went through mental hell as a part of the
process then he made a choice as the conclusion of the initial process.
Everything after that is determined by his choice.

As they are both on the beech at the end it seems possible that they were
both excluded. This was discussed in great detail a little while ago. Where
the hell were you?

You come back if you decide that you prefer your ATF to define you, yourself
and keep all others at a distance. That is to say if you want to be yourself
as an individual. As opposed to the unified soul that was created during
Instrumentality.

Am I right in thinking that Instrumentality, or being incorporeal, has a couple
of different levels? It seems that the Sea of LCL is a different, probably
lesser, type of existence that being in the Unified Soul inside Lilith. Maybe
I'm off base here, but Lilith starts to go all to pieces, *then* we get the
kinky scene with Shinji and Rei in space, seemingly outside of Lilith.
Thank you, BTW, to all who have helped me grow in my understanding of this
phenomenal movie... ^.^
--R--
Well no, there is one state apart from what we know in the real world that is.
The LCL is what happens to the physical mass of the body when your soul departs
taking the ATF with it. The ATF is what defines your personal borders. I'm sure
Michael or Olivier can come up with some quotes from Tabris that I can't to back
this up.
We also have theory regarding an EGO border that may or may not be a part of the
ATF and is actually the physical definer of the mass of your body.
Instrumentality is primarily concerned with the soul however. LCL is kind of
like a byproduct that may or may not be used depending on choices made by
individuals. The unified soul is not inside Lilith either. Lilith at most was
the unifier, but not the vessel of the "Mega-soul.*"
* Mega-soul is my own personal term used simply to avoid having to type out
"unified soul."
>Instrumentality is primarily concerned with the soul however. LCL is kind of
>like a byproduct that may or may not be used depending on choices made by

>the unifier, but not the vessel of the "Mega-soul.*"
Thank you, your explanation makes sense, but I'm not convinced that Lilith
isn't the vessel of the Unified Soul. Don't we see her kind of suctioning off
some red stuff from the Dark Moon with an orgasmic look on her face? As though
she's thinking, whee, look what I'm absorbing into me? And isn't it true that
Shinji, still inside Unit 01, doesn't have the Mega Soul experience until right
after he gets sucked into Lilith's forehead?
BTW, is it reasonable to say that the difference between death and being
LCL-ified is that the in former the soul leaves the AT Field behind, but in the
latter the AT Field goes too?
> Mega-soul is my own personal term used simply to avoid having to type out
>"unified soul."
Well, if you include the hyphen, you're only saving three keystrokes... :p
--R--
I don't think that Shinji ever gets into the Mega Soul. I may have worded my
comments wrong. Vessel was probably the wrong term to use as it can be
interpreted in another way. Lilith was there to unify the souls into the Mega
Soul. Thus the souls went to her. I do not believe she still holds the souls
though. The Mega Soul would exist on some metaphysical level, more closely
related to dreaming then anything else, but one dream, as opposed to one dream
per soul that went in because there is only one Soul there. It is after all a
joining of everyone into a singular to remove the border of the soul and remove
isolation. The reason I don't believe that Lilith is the possesor of the Mega
Soul is because she fell apart at the end of 3rd Impact. Well, her body did
anyhow.
> BTW, is it reasonable to say that the difference between death and being
> LCL-ified is that the in former the soul leaves the AT Field behind, but in

The ATF IS the border of the soul. The point at which the soul ends and the rest
of the world beginnings. It's not possible to have a soul leave and still retain
the ATF. This is where the EGO border theory might help but then we would
require the Ego to be more then mental. Actually I think that there was a
discussion about this before, death and the ATF. Anyone remember it?

Do not bother me with minor details. It's much easier to type two four letter
words. I like four letter words. They are nice and simple!

Unless this means that after death, even though the body is spent and useless,
the soul doesn't really depart. Maybe it's still around, waiting in some limbo
state for Judgment Day/Third Impact/whatever.

Hey, *somebody* has to be. 8P
Actually, if you think about it, LCL is kind of a yellowish-orange, so it
*could* look like chicken soup. Maybe.
Hey, chicken soup is supose to be good for the soul, maybe it is the soul,
and it just kind of tops of the soul fluid level.
Sakaki
Prove it. We aren't given that much information on Instrumentality.
What we do know is that it is a unification of humanity through the
loss of AT fields. When AT fields begin to return, it won't be a
unification of humanity any more, will it?
All entities won't be joined, as there will be individual life again.
Instrumentality by its definition won't exist.
Something similar may exist, but as long as there are AT fields, there
exists pain, and the Instrumentality is no more.
>Not the only one, but the only one chosen. It's not something that
you start and stop it got started, everyone entered Lilith as a part
of the process.
Well, they all had their AT fields popped suddenly, causing their
bodies to liquify from the sudden burst. Then their souls were drawn
into Lillith/Adam.
> Then Shinji went through mental hell as a part of the process then he made a choice as the conclusion of the initial process. Everything after that is determined by his choice.
Yes. And his choice was to let there be people again.
> As they are both on the beech at the end it seems possible that they were

I did not say that they weren't excluded. I just said that there is no
conclusive proof that Asuka was excluded from the process. I believe
otherwise, as a close look at the damage done to her EVA seems to
pretty much killed her before Instrumentality began in full. Her Entry
Plug would have been lanced.
Since she is alive at the end, it seems to me that she did what Shinji
is told is possible. She reformed her body from the LCL by imagining
herself. The two of them being on the beach together can be explained
as Asuka being the first to return to life.
Or maybe she managed to ride the whole thing out. We aren't sure. I
just have my opinion on the subject, and I feel that Asuka died, and
got better.

Yes. I know. But the status quo for those who refuse to return to
physical form was never explained. I'm guessing that they will die, as
without Adam/Lillith to maintain the souls, they will go on to the
beyond unless they choice to incorporate.
But that's just a guess on my part. But since Shinji wants everything
to return to normal, and having the souls of everyone on Earth as a
lake isn't too normal, I think that something would have to happen to
the Sea of LCL.

Apparently we are given more then you have realized thus far.

Of course not, but you realize that the formation of an ATF comes at the
realization of individuality right? It's a choice now.

If they choose.

It's a method, a process. It will come, work and pass on, or be completed. Your
sentence doesn't make sense. It does exist, thus it will always have existed.

No it wasn't! It was to let people choose for themselves by granting them the
possibility of returning.

There is nothing showing us that her EP was punctured. In fact I believe
something came up that suggested quite the opposite.

Then why didn't we see her turn to LCL? Why was she one of a very few that we
didn't see loose their ATF's? How could she reform when you don't know that she
form into anything that would require her to reform from?

I'm snippy at random, you got lucky! I don't care if you don't agree with me.
It's when you continue to disagree that drives me up the wall. But that issue
was discussed in great detail. Whatever the hell is was, I remember thinking
that it was though. So it must have been.

They are part of the Mega Soul now. All humanity is unless they learn and return
with their own ATF's. Without the ATF's they don't need/have mass. There is no
need for it. Thus they will not die without it. Likewise they won't be "them"
either. As "them" infers a plural and "a" soul is singular.

Depends on what happens after EoE I guess. Something that is not likely to
