Never mind what?
Pay no attention. Bryce just enjoys taunting newbies. All of us, in
other words.
Speak for youself, FOB boy. I've been here for over a year already.

Well,
"right off the bat" I would understand when used correctly in a sentence. But
I don't really get how it would fit here.
"FRESH off the boat" I understand but seeing as how I've been here over
three years now I don't see how that term would apply to me let alone to any
of the others here who happen to be hardened Yingyong vets compared to me.

Even those of us who have only gone to Japan twice?

I've been THREE times!
You just have to keep on rubbing it don't you! Why? Why? Why?
Those of us who've only managed to go to Japan twice 'ave to endure this
constant taunting. If it wasn't making me feel all so inferior I'd jump
up and say "I'm as mad as hell and not going to take it anymore", but I
just feel so overwhelmed in your presence. And the tourist in Okinawa
doesn't it any easier.

Infuriating, isn't it? There's always someone who has to do one better.
Akkerchally, I'm thinking of cheating by including that quick visit to
Japan between trips to Korea. Do you think anyone would object?

little experience of Japan....

How do you figure that? I would hazard a guess that there are even
some folks who despite having been *asleep* in Japan for over twice
that long not only don't know, but furthermore don't give a rat's ass.
They're some J-Pop, J-Rock, J-Whateverthefuck group. Who gives a shit?

wow.
It does pain me that I couldn't take the real Japan, and had to drop out and
settle for this pale shadow. Sometimes, as I watch the sun sink into the
azure sea, sipping awamori and listening to the breeze rustle through the
sugar cane, I feel a pang of nostalgia for the black, sludgy waters of
Nagoyakou.
But we all have our crosses to bear. I try to bear mine taking an example
from the English, by keeping a stiff upper lip and drinking way too much
alcohol.

This is from a friend who just travelled to Okinawa
"I have just back from Okinawa and I can say the trip was great! Nice weather,
besutiful ocean and especially food is great.
Okinawa is the southern-most island in Japan as you know. It was still very hot
nearly 30 degree. It is under 15 dgree at my city [in Aichi] so you can imagine
how hot! I could hear cicadas sound.
In Okinawa, there are lots of special fruits which are I cannot easily buy in
main land of Japan. Like Dragon fruit, Star fruit etc... they are so juicy, so
tasty!!
I went to historycal places, Shuri Castle, Himeyuritower and so on. Okinawa has
a very different culture as main land of Japan. Even I do not understan what
people say. It is like a foreign country. I think everything in Okinawa is very
similar to Taiwan."

My wife's sister lives in minato-ku. That was the first place I stayed in

We lived in Obu, so made it out to Shinmaiko once in a while. Slightly less
sludgy, but it made up for that with the fumes rising up from the industrial
waste used for landfill.

Given that the English, almost by definition, neither watch nor are able
to play cricket, your predisposition towards the social aspects of the
club shouldn't present any obstacle.
>Oh, so you do know who they are. There we go.
I know it is the name of a group. Beyond that, I neither know nor
care. So do I really "know who they are"? Depends on how loose one's
definition of "know" is.

>I don't see why you keep looking at it on those terms.
Normally, we don't. It's the one sort of boorishness we consider
beneath even us. And as low as our standards are, that's saying
something.
>It seems like some of
>you guys are in the shower looking at bigger guy's sausages are something.
>Give it a break already.
Yes, Mr. Pott.
Perhaps it has escaped your notice that the others weren't gleefully
excoriating each other for (perceived) newbieness when you climbed
into the sandbox with us. You're the one who jumped in with both feet
whipping your old-timer wienie around for all to worship and admire.
Unfortunately, Bryce, that really doesn't mean shit around here. My
personal opinion is that the amount of time a person has been in Japan
is a reliable indicator of one thing and one thing only: the amount of
time a person has been in Japan. If it makes you happy, that you were
here in the 80s has been duly noted and recorded. But in a group where
not only were a lot of us here *in* the 80s but have been here pretty
much constantly *since* the 80s (or before?), that fact that you began
your bouncing in and out of the place back then really doesn't count
for much.
Those who actually *have* been here for entirely too long, have long
ago figured out that it really doesn't signify anything and in itself
is deserving of no particular awe from anyone. Being proud of having
been in Japan longer than others is sort of like being proud of being
the tallest kid in the second grade. It isn't an accomplishment; stay
in the second grade long enough and anybody can do it.
Consequently, putting others down for not having been here as long as
one's self is boorish, insecure, locker room wienie wagging. You come
in here swaggering about as though you think you must have a kielbasa
slapping from thigh-to-thigh, the THWAP!s echoing off the tile of the
fjlij shower walls, yet the content of what you say leaves us
scratching our heads and wondering why the guy with the cocktail frank
is vigorously shaking his crotch in our faces.
It's nice to have you with us, Bryce. You spice the place up. You're a
colorful and engaging guy. But let's quit putting down others for not
having gotten here when you did. I'm sure if the other parties had
known they were in a race, they would have tried to get here sooner.
Man, way too much typing for the situation at hand. You've got some

Shhh! Everybody will want in.
How can tips and/or remedies be construed as "newbie stomping"?
Oh, I have some advice there too. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't newbie
stomping.
Just don't do it!
They are playing at the Showbox in Seattle this next Tuesday. My wife is
going crazy. It fits about 600-700 people. She dragged me to a concert of
theirs in Japan once but it was like 50,000 people and we were a mile away.
This ought to be quite interesting.
I bet their lighting and such was much better down in Vegas. I'm wondering
how they will handle it in such a small environment here. I guess we'll see.
Can't imagine a 50,000 person crowd though. :) I think this venue had a
1000+ maybe. Koshi joked about being in America and yet the whole audience
(save myself and about 10 others) were Japanese :)
In that small of a place I think it was a great show.
I would imagine it being simplistic, lighting that is. I think they are
coming statesite just so they can say they "had a world tour" on their
brochures in Japan. Because if you think about it, who the hell is going to
go and see them outside of Asia? Well, I'm just going to make my wife happy
anyways, most of the shit I know is just through kaoroke anyways. I'm also
thinking that the crowd in Seattle will be 99% Japanese and Korean.

IVE BEEN TO JAPAN TWELVE TIMES. AND I HAVE OVER THREE DOZEN JAPAN
IMMIGRATION BUREAU STAMPS IN MY PASSPORT. I FEEL I SHOULD POST THIS IN
CAPITAL LETTERS TO EMPHASIS. IT MAKES THE REST OF YOU SMALLER THAN ME
-MARC
p.s. you can post accolades at your leisure, but please do not use capital
letters when doing so. Thanks.
Didn't they just lose to the Yankees?
How did you get so many, if you've been back and forth to Japan so few times?
Since I go home once, twice or more each year for these ten years, and have
visited before I lived here, I've been more than that, but don't believe I have
that many stamps.
He goes around to the back of the line, of course. It doesn't work every
time, but every so often the immigration grunt gets charmed by those
pale puppy eyes and stamps the passport again....
