I have a question regarding my antivirus software from Trend Micro. Mine has
expired and needs re-activation.
It's getting really hard to dig through the company's web site with so many
different versions. Besides, their support is very busy and doesn't respond
for days.

I have upgraded my OS to Windows XP and want "Trend Micro PC-cillin 2003".
I use 4 exchangeable drawer-type hard drives with different operating
systems in one computer. Can I use the same copy of PC-cillin since the same
computer is being used? Or do I need the 'overkill package' for 5 licenses
(downloadable)?

One more thing. I have seen various downloadable software packages (incl.
PC-cillin) at "SoftwareBoy" which is several $$ cheaper than buying directly
from Trend Micro. Does anybody know other online sources which offer similar
discounts?

PS: If I get the 5-license version, I'd have one 'spare license'. Can the
English version be used on a Japanese system?
It was definitely the case with PC-cillin for Windows 98. I used it
successfully on a Japanese system, but more than 2 years ago.

Bleech.

One computer (CPU), one license.

Why bother? This one is free:

Or, are you talking about your network (commercial) computers?

This one is really good, you can set it to automatically update, with
new virii, it is about every 2-3 days or so on average. I set mine up
to update every week. That is, on the PC I use...

Haaa... that's what I thought, too!
Some guys at another NG interpreted it as ONE computer/ONE hard disk. I am
not going to study law books to find out, or to hire a lawyer to do it for
me. As I found out, PC-cillin makes it impossible to install on more than
one computer. Haven't tried it another HD on the same machine yet...
Anyway, one shouldn't give to much weight to software agreements which are
compiled by commercial enterprises in the USA. Some of them are simply
invalid in Germany as I have read in German computer magazines. There might
be similar cases in Japan. It should be clear for Microsoft which is well
established and has a base here, but not so for many of the unknown software
companies...

Yes, I use it for my computers in the coffee shop (not networked). Seems to
be good.

It's commercial, but they are not networked... except for two computers.
However, they are not connected to the Internet. AVG should be OK for these
machines.

You know I never quite understand this. What happens in case of dual
(multiple) processers? Seriously, would I need to have two licenses or a
site license perhaps?

I would think that the software company is happy that you are purchasing
the software instead of pirating it.

Unless you are a corporation, you probably don't need to lose sleep over
this issue. However, most major corporations are the worst offenders
when it comes to software piracy. YMMV.
