Great clip. It's from that inane gong-show-style fancy dress show that has
been screened every year (at New Year?) since the dawn of time. It is the
first time I have seen an entry that actually makes me think "wow that's
cool".

Is this a Doze-only file? All I get is a very large swathe of gibberish
that took several minutes to download, with "Windows Media Audio V8 12
kbps, 8 kHz, stereo" embedded in it near the top.

Maybe, what's a "Doze-only" file?

It's a movie. You should view it in a movie player. It sounds like you are
opening it with a text editor.

http://www.ifilm.com/filmdetail?ifilmid=2474296 has the same clip
available in multiple formats. All streaming-only, though.

One that only works in a WinDoze environment.

I'm not.
I put the URL into Internet Exploiter, the same way I always do, and all
I get is page after page of gibberish. Presumably I don't have the
plug-in that will convert it into something that can be played on my
Mac, but I have no idea what what that plug-in is and it would be really
really nice if that brain-dead bit of software would fucking _tell_ me
what I need to install to view the clip, instead of just spewing raw
code at me.

And with an ad beforehand, but at least I get to see it. Thanks!
Yes, it's from Kin-san's regular "fancy-dress" show, which exhibits more
imagination in that couple of hours than the rest of Japanese TV
combined. <quibble> It's ping-pong done Matrix style, not the Matrix
done ping-pong style. </quibble>
What is a WinDoze environment?
Is it like a Mack environment?

It sounds like your Mack is not seeing it as a binary file. This may be
because it is misconfigured, or it may be because the webserver is sending
out a false filetype ID.
