Hello,

This is off-topic, but I would like to share this news with the 'Angband'
community for their support regarding my 32x32 tiles.

Many of you people will know me from the tile-sets I created for 'Angband' and
Roguelike games. Well, my latest Iso work is about to be showcased in a new
Roguelike Game called Dungeon Odyssey. pop on over to..

http://www.malfador.com/

and follow the link to 'Dungeon Odyssey'. You'll find some brief info and a
few screen-shots. The game is due out in August, and I used the latest in
'Retro-Pixel' technology to create a whole bunch of new (never before seen)
tiles. (over 2500 tiles in the game!)

Play with over 60 Spells, Dozens of skills, Summon creatures, Buy/Sell in
Shops, Find treasures & gold, Discover 'magical' weapons & armor, Add to your
players 'Skill' as he gains in level, Solve Quests, Explore the wilderness,
Search the Dungeons, Clear out Castles, and when all is said and done, export
your character and test his skill in 'other' modules.

This game was designed with the 'End-User' in mind,.. One major 'Feature' is
the ability to 'modify' the game and create your very own 'modules' (also
known as adventures!) The player will be able to create Custom tile layouts,
custom dungeons, custom wilderness, custom quests, custom monsters, custom
items, and more!

Do you think you can handle Dungeon Odyssey?

For you would be 'Gods' Share your 'Creations' with other players, challenge
them to beat your sinister plots, to survive your dungeons, hide your
'Ultimate' treasure well and laugh as you watch them fail, and if they manage
to succeed, build a deadlier dungeon, fill it with nastier beasts. hahahahaha!
After all you know that heroes are a dime a dozen!

So you think you're some kind of Champion? No Plot is to thick, no Dungeon to
deep, no Treasure that can't be found? You laugh at the so called 'Gods' and
dare to accept their challenges? well, you're going to have to prove it.
Dungeon Odyssey is going to test you like you have never been tested before...

So much fun is coming soon.
Roguelike games are about to get a boost thanks to the talented people at
Malfador Machinations. This game has "Fun Inside" and that is a welcome
feature in this day and age!

Have a Great Day, and have fun! Cheers!

Well, Malfador are the ones producing the great Space Empires Series,
I cannot believe they goofed with Dungeon Odissey, so I will assume
that the game will be a smashing great job!

Wow, I am really looking forward to this. Space Empires IV was the ultimate
game in its genre and I was addicted to it for months... I wouldn't be
surprised if their roguealike became a classic.

Oooh..."Malfador" was all you had to say to get my attention. Space
Empires IV is the single, most interesting 4x game I've ever played.
I'd shell out a few bucks for the game to try it, just because they're
making it.

I feel like such a groupie....

Well, I can add the following data -

The first post (voice of support to mac version), was posted through google.
The second post was posted through AOL. This is consistent with several of
Cielti's messages I've seen in the past.

So, the real Ceilti, who presumably still controls her email account, should
immediately change her password on google groups. If she never started an
account there, she should go to google and click the "lost you password"
page, and get the password sent to her email. Then she should change it. She
should probably also report this to someone, but I'm not sure to whom.

If she ever willingly gave her password to anyone, I'd suggest checking that
person.

I wonder which of these messages is actually the bogus one. It's the
followup that looks somewhat incoherent, with odd characters and
misspellings everywhere. The below message on the other hand looks normal
and benign, although it has a couple typos.

Oh, well. I feel it's perfectly normal if one's upset or typing fast.

Anyway,

I can't be 100% sure which is the real Ceilti, but since I suspect
another imposter case which involves the same combination - AOL and
deja/Google...

1) Inform your ISP (AOL) of the case and ask advice.
They *should* be able to tell you from your imposter,
but you may be asked to prove your identity.
If it doesn't hurt, ask for temporary suspention of your
email account, on the basis of the witnessed abuse.
2) Suspend/Delete your google group account *immediately*.
If it's not created by yourself, tell them about the case.

To me it doesn't look like one was posted thru google and other from AOL.
Reference-line indicates which post (s)he was answering to.

MessageID lines differ a little bit:

One ends with:
@mb-ft.aol.com
and other with:
@mb-ms.aol.com

Path shows identical starting point: audrey05.news.aol.com

This paragraph leads me to believe that *this* message is the
imposter. That or the user has some sort of trojan that replaces chars
in a very neo-goth-H4x0r way.

Then it looks like the impostor remembered to type "normal". Why they
wouldn't go back to edit the prev paragraph is beyond me.

I do know that a quick google for ceilti posts show no similar
"replacemen+" of characters.

I suppose it could be some sort of AOL crack; yet another reason why
"friends don't let friends use AOL", if so.

What about *both* messages being spoofed? If you can do it once,
you can do it twice and cause *plenty* of confusion with close to no
extra effort.
It's probably someone with too much constant time in their hands.

Two different people using the same computer? If she left her terminal
logged on, and there are other users of the same machine...

What you say? Me, a h4x0r? :)

Seriously -- the followup saying the many typos were from being upset
fails to explain everything. Many of those characters can only be typed
by hitting alt+numpad combinations or by pasting them from charmap, and
are virtually impossible to enter by merely miskeying or even the
proverbial banging of one's head on the keyboard. They're more likely to
result from some kind of corruption of data -- the sort you'd see from
line noise in the good old days when people posted from VT-100 terminals
over 2400bps modems with no error correction and phone lines were usually
analogue all the way across the country, rather than just to the
neighborhood phone box and fiber optics from there straight to your ISP's
door.

That's what I was thinking. Ceilti, do you have any relatives or roommates
who might have used your computer in your absence?
