Has Elton ever really lost his temper on stage? Besides saying he is going
to retire, I mean did he ever throw things and totally go off?

The very first time I saw Elton was in Madison, WI in 1980. There was
feedback from one of those speakers that point at him on the stage floor. He
went over and literally kicked it in and yelled at the stage people for
about 5 minutes. They scrambled around like roaches do when you flip the
light switch on, and had a new speaker there before he started the next
song.

I think he stomped off the stage at the Greek Theater in LA because he was
cold a few years back. He had a heater on stage the next night when I saw
him.

I saw Elton at Great Woods, I forget what year It was when he was using the
Roland center stage. He got mad at something, and tipped the keyboard over and
stormed off stage. He returned a few minutes later, played for a while longer,
got pissed at something again, and tipped the keyboard over again. I guess he
wasn't in a good mood that night.

I have a video from the spring of 1995 with Elton playing with the band at a
festival, I believe in France. They're playing "The Bitch Is Back" and Elton
starts screaming at roadies. It lasts for most of the song and he misses parts
of the vocal because he is screaming at people. At the end he tells the
audience "Thank you for coming out here and standing out in the rain, but I
ain't gonna play any of these f***ing festivals anymore."

I was at that Madison 1980 show. I remember him chewing out a roadie and then
saying to the audience -- "we're gonna find out why this piano sounds like
shit"

I also saw Elton in Amherst, MA in 1997 when he kicked out the security down
front because they wouldn't let people (including me) approach the stage with
gifts. This then became my favorite Elton concert ever because I got to enjoy
it from right in front of the piano for over 2 hours of the show.

I remember that. I was in the 3rd row for that one. Quite a funny scene.

**Well............a friend of mine once saw him in concert in England, years
ago, and the place was not up to Elton's standards, and apparently a few things
didn't work rigtht, so Elton finally stormed off stage saying, "I'm not working
in this sh*thole!"

My friend was so put off by his behaviour that he did not want to go with me to
see Elton at Woburn Abbey last summer.:-(
(still I got to watch the best part live on TV;-)

Brenda

Oh, and of course, he fled the concert in Lisbon, not too long ago, without
saying why. Just said he was going out for some fresh air, but got in his car
and drove to the airport, and outta there!

I saw Elton for the first time in 1995 at the Meadows Music Theatre in
Hartford, CT. I guess some security guards were being too physical with some
fans and Elton stopped mid-song and yelled "fuck off" and said he wasn't going
to continue until that fucking ass hole (the guard) leaves. And he did, he came
back on about 10 minutes later.

There's some CD bootleg out there from Nov or Dec 82 when Elton loses
it and throws the piano bench into the audience and apparently goes at
it with some people. I have not heard it and only read of it, so...

Someday--!!

That video was Rock over Germany, 1995. Somebody keeps bothering
him...I thought it was a fan, but it might be a Roadie. But god grief,
he did get pissed off like I've never seen him before.

Supposedly there is this Buenos Aires 1992 video where Elton gets
royalled pissed because of the acoustics ...

think we would have got the gifts to the stage had we been on that side.

In my case Brenda if you read what I said, I was not talking about venue security but a SHERIFF.  Apparently the staff is usually told where they fans can approach the stage as when I attended the Hershey show, the ushers TOLD us where we could come up, not that we didn't already know in the first place.
As for giving gifts, lets relate that to going to other sorts of shows, musicals, plays, operas and the like.  Have you ever seen the lead get roses or something from a member of the audience?  I went to see "Madame Butterfly" when I was in Junior High School.  Two members of the audience gave the lead flowers, so the practice is really no different than that.  I have given Elton gifts on several occasions and will continue that practice anytime that I am within distance of giving him a gift.  It is simply appreciation that I do it.  I don't really know where the gifts end up.  I have an idea and it's ok with me.  The reason that I do it it just shows him in some little way what his music means to me!

Yes of course. I see. It is quite customary and pleasant.  Yes, I'm sure it's a pleasure to give Elton a gift and hope he'll cherish it.  Probably he has a room for them all, or he puts them out on show somewhere for a while.
Flowers are wonderful, of course, and I'm sure Elton appreciates them, although he flies straight back to Atlanta, I'm sure he takes them back with him, to help decorate his beautiful penthouse in Park Place. Perhaps he even remembers who gave them to him? Hope so!

Personally, I would feel a little silly giving Elton anything, but I may just give him a Praying Mantiss one day;-) (just kidding) I may give him a cuddly praying beanie bear, though ~ God knows why!?

I know! To sit next to that little devil he has in his dressing room!;-)

Temper?

August 13, 1995 in Hartford, CT Elton annouced: "I'm so f-cking tired of these
f-cking pinheads on steriods" He stormed off the stage and I really did wodner
if he would return.

He was referrring to the security detail, and yes, he returned. Amonst the
madness, I squirmed my way from row 23rd row to the front, my first ever real
close-up with the man.

Bitch all ya want, Elt.

I was at a concert in Mansfield, MA (Great Woods) in late summer '92 and he
didn't like something that was happening with his keyboard, so he promptly
flipped it off his stand and on to the stage, undoubtedly ruining it. They
replaced it, THAT one didn't work, and he flipped that one even harder (quite
amazing, since those old Rolands are HEAVY).

Yeah - he definitely reinforces the "temperamental artist" stereotype.

I have the same Roland Elton used back then, and YES it is very heavy compared
with comparative keyboards today - near 100 pounds. It's amazing, he just flips
it over and ruins it - he must have toured with half a dozen! I could never
smash equipment like that.
