Hi all,

I was a huge fan of the original X-Wing and TIE Fighter games
back in the day, and am curious about starting out again with the
X-Wing Trilogy. I've done some reading up on the web, but thought I'd
check on some things with people "in the know" before I plunk down the
money, so here are some questions:

1. How does the Trilogy play with a Gravis Gamepad Pro (the one that
looks like a Playstation controller)? I used to play with a
combination of that and the mouse (for precision targeting like mines
or picking turrets off capital ships), but I'm hearing that the mouse
is disabled in-flight now, so am I going to have more trouble in those
situations requiring precision? (and yes, I could buy a joystick, but
I would prefer not to)

2. How do all of the games in the Trilogy behave under Windows XP?
Any compatibility problems so far, and are they fixable?

3. My computer consists of a PIII 1 GHz, Sound Blaster Live Value,
256 MB RAM, 40x speed CD drive, ATI Radeon 32 MB DDR, and the stuff I
mentioned earlier. This looks like more than the listed requirements
in all areas, but does anyone think problems could arise?

4. I remember in the original games, I guarded against losing my
pilot by backing up two files (named after my pilot) on a floppy. Do
the new versions of the games still work like this, specifically
X-Wing Alliance?

5. Some reviews I've read say that the new versions of X-Wing and TIE
Fighter aren't very much improved over the originals in some respects.
They're kinda vague about this though, so I'm wondering if anyone can
be more specific.

That's all I can think of for now. Also, I notice that this group
isn't super-active, so if you know any forums that are more active, or
have people that might have more info, please let me know. Thank you!

I don't know if it works under XP or not. You will also need
to buy a joystick like the Microsoft Precision 2. But the
X-Wing Trilogy is an awesome package. You can download
redone fighters and ships and find more about the games at
the links below.

Overall: I guess it's fair to say I've been waiting for the X-Wing Collector
Series for several years now. X-Wing and TIE Fighter have been relegated to
the darkest reaches of my shelf, left to rot with their antiquated graphics
and obsolete DOS engines. With X-Wing Collector Series, these great games
have been given new life, and have regained their rightful places on my hard
drive. If you played the originals, you simply must experience the
excitement all over again. If not, if you've never played X-Wing or TIE
Fighter, and want to discover the games that started it all, now's your
chance -- just don't blame me for any sleep deprivation or domestic
squabbles.

The X-Wing Trilogy will always be a part of my game collection.
