Newbie: DVD+RW/DVD+R on Playstation 2?

Hi.

I'm considering getting an HP 100i DVD+RW drive, with the intention being to
burn video recorded on a digital camcorder onto a standard format DVD and
play it back on a PS2 (preferably with menus).

I'm getting conflicting information as to whether it works.

For example,

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&selm=9u030o%24fkd%241%40uranium.btinte
rnet.com says it won't.

Anyone actually tried it?

Doesn't work. At least it didn't for me. Tried both the HP drive you
mentioned as well as the Philips, and even used different brands of
DVD+RW media (including HP's own).

I popped the same disks in my X-Box before I had the DVD kit for it
and it said I needed the kit for it to play DVDs. At least it
appeared to see them as DVDs and that was good news! By chance I
found a DVD kit for X-Box, and lo and behold, DVD+RW video disks play
on the X-Box! The menu created using My DVD software looks nice and
plays like a regular DVD with the X-Box remote.

Good luck! Personally, I expected the format to be more compatible
than it is, but at least I've found one device I can play the disks
back on other than the DVD+RW drive itself.

Doesn't work.

I was in the same boat as Ian, and personally, really hoped the format
would play through the PS2, as that set up would have been
particularly convenient.
