I am running Red Hat Linux 7.1. The 2.4.2 kernel that comes with this
distribution does not seem to support the Texas Instruments PCI-1131
(rev 01) cardbus bridge pcmcia controller. Hence I downgraded to
kernel 2.2.19 and installed pcmcia 3.1.26 on top of it. When I boot
Linux I get the following message from pcmcia card servcies:
ds: no socket drivers loaded!
The pcmcia setup used to work with kernel 2.2.19 in conjuction with
pcmcia-cs 3.0.5 and red hat 6.2 but I can no longer find the pcmcia-cs
3.0.5 sources on the pcmcia-cs site. I would like to know the following:
1) What is ds and why do I get the above error?
2) Where can I get the pcmcia-cs 3.0.5 package?
3) Is there something else I need to configure
to get my pcmcia network card to work (all three leds are always off).
Thanks!

Yes it does, actually.

This means that either you are not specifying a socket driver in
/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia, or you are specifying the wrong one. You
should be specifying PCIC=i82365. See the PCMCIA-HOWTO sections about
startup options, and Red Hat.

Trust me, you don't want it.

Thanks. Last night I realized that the anaconda Red Hat installation program
had set PCIC=yenta_socket. Once I installed kernel 2.2.19 and pcmcia 3.1.26
all I had to do was change PCIC in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia to i82365. After
that my PCMCIA network card was working.

Do you mean that I could have just changed /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia with
kernel 2.4.2 and things would have worked? Amazing!
Thank you!
