I'm using this drive and it really is v.quiet. I suppose as it's a
newish product no-one knows its durability but with a 3-year warranty
(UK anyway) it's fairly academic and a second drive is probably wise
in case of unexpected fatality. It's a seagate barracuda IV, you need
the 80GB (380021A) or 60GB (360021A)

I have some IDE internal maxtor drives that don't bug me much because they are
inside but I also have a few firewire drives...... the maxtor is silent but the
western digital is a freight train.... for what its worth

Yeah, there the ones I was listening too !

Any reason in particular you didn't recomend the 40gb ( I was thinking of
getting 2 x 40gb ) ?

Do a web search for the drive. Vague recollection of a design
difference - could be wrong though. For 'silence' it needs the fluid
bearing - if the 40gb has it then go for it.
