No shit. The "gay" angle? This has got to be one of the more cynical

gay New Yorkers' shock different from straight New Yorkers' shock?
Fercrissake. It would have been imminently more tasteful to shut the fuck
up
for a few days. You've got nothing to add.

Dear Wendell:

I feel the deepest pity for you and those like you! You truly do not
understand what Rex, Ken Sherrill, myself and others are saying:

The gays and lesbians immediately effected by the World Trade Center
Tragedy are examples of real Gay/Lesbian Hero/ians. We need more than
RuPaul, Drag Queens from Stonewall - and isn't to negate their VERY REAL
CONTRIBUTION to our liberties.

We need to know that there are those of us who gave and are giving on their
lives to protect the whole community. We need to have gay/lesbian teens see
that they can be part of the greater society. I won't say our trauma is
different but I will say it is very important. It is important that the
heterosexual community see that gay/lesbian couples have suffered in equal
ways and have the same experiences at the dangers a loved one is facing as
they do. They need to know that the lovers and boyfriends of the EMT's,
Police, Fire, Nurses, Triage Doctors and Nurses are just as worried out of
their minds as any married heterosexual couple.

In today's 9/9/01 edition of The Washington Post, hardly a bastion of gay
liberation news printed the following with picture and separate outline the
following:

Mark Bingham:

San Franciscan Mark Bingham, 31, struggled for years to integrate two
aspects of his life, his friends said; He was a physically robust man who
delighted in the rough and tumble sport of Rugby, and he was gay.

In the last few months of his life, he had finally put those halves
together, joining a gay San Francisco Rugby club. He played in a tournament
in Washington, DC this spring, where ruggers from this city's gay team got
to know him a bit. He found out a few days before his death that his young
team, the San Francisco fog, had been accepted as a permanent member of a
Northern California Rugby league involving mostly straight teams.

When I started playing Rugby at the age of 16, I always thought that my
interest in other guys would be an anathema - completely repulsive to the
guys on my team - and to the people I was knocking the s---- out of on the
other team," he wrote to his teammates in a celebratory e-mail.

"I loved the game but knew I would need to keep my sexuality a secret
forever. I feared total rejection. As we worked and sweated and ran and
talked together this year, I finally felt accepted as a gay man and a Rugby
player. My two irreconcilable worlds came together."

Friends said Bingham owned a public relations company with offices in San
Francisco and New York and traveled frequently. He called his mother before
his plane crashed in western Pennsylvania to tell her he loved her - by
Justin Gillis.

In a separate article on Page A-12 of The Washington Post:

Mark Bingham managed to tell his aunt and mother, Alice Hoglan, only that
the plane had been hijacked and that he loved them before the phone "went
dead," Kathy Hogland said. But the 6 foot-5 former University of California
Rugby player would undoubtedly have joined any such effort, she said. "He
was calm but scared, as if he knew something was going to happen," Hoglan
said. "There is no doubt he wouldn't have let them get away with it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll make a supposition - a 6 foot-5 Rugby player would have had the
strength courage and determination to manhandle terrorists and perhaps was
the ONE who crashed the plane saving perhaps 100s of lives.

I hope that REX, of Roger Klorese or some more talented website person than
I am will set up a Gay/Lesbian Hero's list - let it consist of those who
died in New York or at the Pentagon
as well as Gay Smoke Jumpers who have died fighting forest
fires.............

IN SHORT THERE IS A SEPARATE GAY EXPERIENCE - AND THREE CHEERS FOR REX, KEN
AND OTHERS

Yes, it is VERY important to make our presence known, among the heros
of this tragedy. The mainstream media is doing a sickeningly-excellent
job of blanking out any gay-relevant material.

As WWIII proceeds, we will have attacks upon gay people as a marker
for proof of one's Amerikan patriotism. We will soon be declared an
enemy of the state...and rounded up, and killed or used for
experiments.

We "faggots" are already being blamed for the moral weakness of our
society, that could led to such terrorist attacks. Fred Phelps and his
ilk are right this moment, busy disseminating anti-gay screeds across
all media bands, not just the Internet.

No, but it is a hell of a lot less likely to be
covered. Already, far right groups are releasing
press releases congratuling the straight married man
who helped take back the Pennsylvania crash jet. The
fuckers refuse to mention the gay San Francisco rugby
player who helped, as well.

Thank you, Rex. You have provided a valuable service
to history in recording your words.
