Finally - got it working!!! Using an iPAQ 3630 with a CF sleeve and a
Socket (www.socketcom.com) Bluetooth CF card, connects to the T39m, and then
not only successfully establishes a GPRS connection, but even transfers data
over the connection! The trick is to get the dial string to refer to the
appropriate PDP context on the SIM card. At the moment I have two PDP
contexts on the SIM referring to two different APNs - only got the one
working at the moment, but the other may just not be enabled on the specific
SIM I'm using - need to swap over to another SIM and/or try this SIM in a
Motorola Timeport to see whether both contexts work.

So, this means using *99***<CID># where <CID> is the context number in
question, so for only one context on the SIM use *99***1#, and voila, it
works! Not sure if there is a need to increment CIDs by more than 1 for
each subsequent profile though. Interestingly enough, the Trium Mondo GPRS
starts with a CID of 128, then 130, and then 132 for the three "default"
connections it has pre-setup when you take it out of the box. If anyone has
more info on these CID's, and how the dial strings interact, or should
interact with them, I'd be really interested in hearing about it!

Interestingly enough though, when you have only one CID on the SIM, one
would thing that using *99# should use the first, and in this case, only,
CID to connect. This is however not the case, from what I can see. Why
this should be so is eluding me at the moment. Referring once again to the
Truim Mondo setup, omitting the ***128 from the dial string definitely bombs
the connection. Strange but true!

Anyway, just for reference, the firmware version in use is R2G. Can someone
try this with a version R2K or R2M and let me know if it works please? You
can get your software version on the T39m by doing ">*<<*<*" on the keypad,
and then selecting "Service Info" and then "SW Information"

Are you sure you can get two connections in a row? When I turn the phone off
and on again, I can get one successful GPRS connection (with *99***2# as the
dial-up string).

When I disconnect, the phone tells me how much Bytes I up- and downloaded.
Then, I connect again. This time, the phone hangs with the "Connecting"
screen, and the iPaq hangs on the "Device Connected" screen. After a
timeout, the iPaq gives up, and displays "Disconnected". The phone then
tells me it uploaded 0 bytes, and downloaded 0 bytes.

This is with iPaq 3660, Infrared (not Bluetooth), to a R2K-level T39m, to
Sunrise Switzerland GPRS.

Not twice in a row - thats a problem which is rumoured to be fixed in R2M
from what I hear.

does ATD*98# work in this case ? 98 specifies an IP / PPP service
whereas 99 has other options.

ack. It dont need to 'reboot' my handy if I want to dialup a second time
with R2M.

Unfortunately my GPRS-ISP does no reverse-lookup on my IP's, blocks
icmp-packages and is slower than GSM ...

Yeah, I tried atd*98# as well as atd*98*<CID># which is supposed to work as
well according to the manual - the phone made some really cute noises, but
other than that, failed to connect at all!

It's not rumoured. It's true that R2M will fix this bug.
