When I look in Startup in the system configuration menu, I have two items
called dumprep 0 -k and dumprep 0 -u. The command line for these entries is
%systemroot%\system32\dump 0 -k and %systemroot%\system32\dump 0 -u. Can
anyone tell me what these commands are and whether I can safely delete them
from starting up when my system starts up??? Any help is appreciated.

Richard:

You can usually find information about a file by doing a search for it on your entire system; i.e. all hard drives, all partitions, all files and folders. When you locate the file "right click" it, select "Properties" and look at the information under the "Version" tab.

The description of the file dumprep is;
Windows Error Reporting Dump Reporting Tool

I do not know what the switch extensions mean!

Press WinKey-Break, Advanced Tab, Start Up and Recovery Area, Settings button.

Note the settings for the memory dump on error in the System Failure area.

Ok ..... under system failure I have none of the boxes checked. Under write
debugging information, it says "small memory dump 64kb" - should I change
that to "none"?

I don't imagine that would alter the Run contents. The registry entry for your machine is at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Your personal startup is at that path in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\...

The entry is likely to be a relic of some RunOnce command gone awry.

I disabled the entries with no apparent problem - thanks for your help!
