I agree, Sam. I think it was not only a wise decision, but a sign of
the new era of alternative lifestyles that are replacing this worn-
out, fragmented "nuclear family" dogma.

But I think this gap needs to be filled with a more-expansive and
inclusive theme, such as "Friendship Day" or "Neighborhood
Day"...something which instills the essence of human nurturing,
without dragging in that old demon "Family Values". The kids
could talk about who they care most about in their lives, or what
kind of caring needs to be done to make this a better world. They
could make cards to someone they care about (a parent, sibling,
friend, teacher, pet, whatever).
