Hi folks,

Carol has asked me to let you know that she's only been away from afp
for three days, and she's pining already.

I don't suppose I helped when I said I had 455 new messages, or that her
Almac feed would probably have had only 10 messages in the same period.

Anyway, she is missing you rowdy rabble, and there's a small plan for an
inaugural Ipswich meet the week commencing 24 August, if enough people
are interested.

There's a nice real-ale pub in the town centre (The Plough, I think),
and current attendees are myself and Carol. At the moment there's no
fixed date for the meet, because I don't quite know when I'll get down
there, but suggestions are welcomed.

You can either respond here, or directly to me via email, and I'll pass
the ideas on...

- lasting the *_whole_*_week_* , tap ??!!!

(you talked of a nice pub in the centre of ipswich, called the plough,
and of the week starting august 24th...)

- yup, this sounds like dmwcarol's idea of a small intro-do...<g>...

- love, ppint. (who'll try and find a shopsitter, if there'll be
crash space available...it's a long drive, even
when i _don't_ lose the road i'm driving on...<g>)

- btw - afpers might possibly be interested in a trip around tolly
cobbolds - a local firm having something to do with yeast...

No comment :-)

At the moment it's still only an idea, no firm plans, but _if_ there is
sufficient response we might be able to organise something!

It all depends on a few things. I'll be there anyway, but the first
weekend we might be at a party, and the second we might be camping.
Obviously a mid-week meet would be unsuitable for most, so by the
reactions of afp at large we can decide what we are going to do...

> - yup, this sounds like dmwcarol's idea of a small intro-do...<g>...

:-)

If there are sufficient people interested, there's the possibility of
reserving a small room at the pub for the meet. IIRC, Carol said that
there's no charge for this room, but it is first-come first-served...

There would be limited crash space (probably for 4 people max), since
the house is small (and not Carols :-) ).

BTW, don't try getting there via Wellingborough :-)

Nah, it's a dodgy tour, and the Guide knows nothing :-)

<gets slapped by Carol>

(Confession time. I did the tour on Saturday, and the guide knew lots
and lots and lots. Then I had a beer, which for _southern_ ale wasn't
too bad...)

- has aught further been arranged - i hesitate to say "decided" -
about this ? - i'd have to arrange shop-sitter(s) by wednesday,
to be able to turn up on (not dmwcarol's) doorstep 00:00 24/8/96...

- or may you be leaving it till sometime in september now - in
which case, 'ware bristol 0.99 (see alternate thread) clashes...

Provisionally the meet will be on Saturday 31st August, and all are
welcome. I'll post details later...

I've spoken to Carol, and there would be space for about 7 or 8 people
in total. If anybody is interested, can you let me know via email, and
I'll pass on the names/numbers as needed :-)

I'll agree with that - this Saturday, in the Plough, hopefully in the
Smoke Room. However, anyone wanting to turn up (at my (borrowed) place)
and act like party animals on the friday night is also welcome ;-)

Since Tap is no longer in sunny Scunny and therefore may not be quite as
prompt at reading his mail as usual, [mainly because Carol won't let me
get near the 'puter - Andy] anyone wanting more details should probably
try phoning me instead - 01473 714613, don't be boggled if you get
spoken to by an answerphone claiming to belong to Jim since he's off
having a wonderful time in Edinburgh and has lent me his house, phone,
bed, books, music collection, crocodile etc etc etc (okay can someone
please explain why me typing crocodile has caused Tap to giggle?,
especially since he can see the crocodile I'm referrring to (It's on the
floor next to the bed and I'm leaning on it as I type)?)

Alternatively just turn up at the pub - it's in Falcon Street, opposite
the Buttermarket shopping precinct and next to where the eastern
counties buses hang out, and we'll be there from about 7.30pm probably.
Anyone foolish enough to drive to the pub could try parking in one of
the car parks in Tacket Street.

I hope lots of you can get here as I could really use the injection of
insanity ;-) Life without afp isn't as much fun, even if I do have a
crocodile instead.....

- shopsitter(s) found - i'll be driving down friday night, and
can pick up any two-three afpers en-route, if you care to phone
to make arrangements...route is from J34 on the M6 to the A14
turn-off, (M6 J0 =) M1 J19, near rugby, and then A14 to ipswich,
passing kettering, huntingdon, cambridge, newmarket, bury st
edmunds and stowmarket on the way... likely time of arrival is
around 1 a.m. saturday morning, give or take a bit... (- and
it's o.k., really; i only lose the road near huntingdon on the
way _back_... it's so _grey_and_featureless_ round there)...
01524-382181... lifts back offered (with statutory route warning)
tuesday afternoon or night, or (preferably) _very_early_wednesday_
_morning_, or whenever the dmwcarol loses patience & kicks us out...
but *_check_* wrt crashspace, and bring a sleeping-bag: it's coming
on autumn and the evenings are getting cool, as well as drawing in:
"no longer do i see the big wheel of fortune hanging in the sky..."
(eight ppoints) - check on 01473-714613 _before_ phoning me...
