Hello We are Mouse (age 7) and Woozle (age 8, 9 in three weeks)
Here is our Morecambe meet report from Sunday 15 Nov, its late
as we've just moved.

On Saturday 14th we moved house and on Sunday ppint picked us
up and took us and mummy to the midland hotel to see if anyone
was there. Dave Erik and Roland hade been ther , Drove off but
seen us and came bake. Cheaster(Mouses teddy) came, Erik had
a rat toy and a danersaw(?sp) (that turned into a man) , Roland
had a teddy with him and so did Erik. I had my Teddybear
earmuffs but they stayed in the car. Rabbit also came attatched to
the bottom of mouses plait.

We looked around the midland and then went outside to play on the
sand ?(mud) we all got very dirty but noone cared so that was good
fun. We climbed on rocks and splashed in big puddles that made
the sand look like desert islands. About now Eriks rat decided to
stay
in Morecambe and ran away. We then went into a pub to use the loos
but it was too full for a meal so we went and played in a playground
that looked like a sunken ship. ppint gave out sweets yum :-0

Quote I'm hunger now (no not ppint but chester Mouses teddy)
so we went to a cafe to have food. While we wre waiting Erik
found ratty was missing and he was sad so Erik and Dave went
to the park to look for the rat. Erik ran all the way but he wasn't
there.
we all ate our dinner but erik who was missing his rat. :-(
Quote
Erik Why didn't you get me a fanta?
Dave because you asked for a chocolate milk shake! :-)

We went back to the cars as Erik had a lesson later and
dave wanted to see if they could buy another rat (they got another
one on the way home but it wasn't a rat) :-)
ppint drove us home as mum was shattered and we played
rummikub (sp?) which ppint brought along.

Fun was had by all and we cant wait to go to the next one.

- whoop, whoop, whoop ! - 'twas roley as ran and ran
and ran... (and indeed, was the one to offer to go and
look, while we were waiting; and he looked on the gi-

- yes. but erik *had* been warned not to take any toys
he couldn't bear to lose, with him - by dave - i'm a-
fraid the loss of the rat was one of the "unhappiest
things in the world" that does happen quite a lot, 'til
we learn to be carefuller (and maybe have less fun ?).

- apparently it's a discontinued line, and erik's was
the last in the toysaurus nearest to the le good's -
cheadle hulme way; they checked out the warrington
shed on the way back, i think; but it's *possible*

Thanks for the great meet report Woozle & Mouse, sounds like you're both
fitting in nicely.

In fact so much so that I think it might be time for the next afp-family
meet

Any suggestions about where we should go?

A zoo or a safari park might be good as a pre-summer event, with
possibly a stop at the nearest Wacky Warehouse for play and food
afterwards.

Not only that but I phoned the people who bring the toys into the country
and they have found another rat for Erik (although they are not made
anymore) and will send it to him, so Erik is now very happy :)

This sounds like a really good idea.

Methinks Carol's done this before ;-)

There's bound to be Travellodges/Inns in the area. These suit my monke^W
family very well without putting people out and keeping our
independence.

It could be a great weekend break and the children (Paul, 10 and
Rebecca, 5) would love to meet some more children with Discworld
interests.

Can I suggest Woburn Safari Park or Whipsnade Zoo?... they are both
fairly central (circa junctions 12/13 of the M1).

And can the normal crowd of afpdopted Uncles and Aunties come too?

Oh, btw mouse and woozle, I was very impressed by your report and very much
hope to attend a meet myself very soon now (I haven't been to one yet) :-)

[1] Just in case this confused anyone, I did not attend the meet, but
reading the report made me worry about it :-)

Either sounds fine to me. Would a date early next year be suitable? Say
mid February?

Anyone with any other suggestions for venue or date please feel free to
chip in here.....

> And can the normal crowd of afpdopted Uncles and Aunties come too?

Well, my definition of 'family' for these meets in the past has been any
group of one or more people who have some connection to afp. Basically
it's just an AFP meet but with entertainment that is suitable for
children included as part of the plan.

Whipsnade is quite good when the weather isn't too warm. The animals are
more active and there are quite a lot of other things to do as well -
train rides, adventure playground, flaconry displays, penguin feeding
and stuff with a few indoor places too. Also it's a *lot* less busy
than in the summer.

The Weekend of the 20th/21Feb is the second weekend of half term in all
the LEA's around here (a rare conjunction) which may make it easier for
weekenders?

Hmm, sounds interesting. I may try to come to this one.

Kids seem to like me, it's just the female ones over 18 I have problems
with. :-(

then your invited by default and you can bring none afpers,
fresh blood, new recruits sort of thing!)

Since Whipsnade is my local zoo (not that I have been since I was around
the ages of Mouse and Woozle) : I'll try to find out more about public
transport and get back to the group ... and group discounts at the
zoo itself.

I did try to get there a couple of summers ago, (it being a nice day and
me wanting to do something on the spur of the moment) thinking there is
bound to be a regular bus service ..... well, there wasn't then

As for railway stations, Luton (or Luton Airport Parkway if it ever
opens :-) ) would be closest, but cost of Taxi from said station/s
probably prohibative.

As for Woburn, ooh .. that's too far North for me ;-)
