$950 is far too much for a bike that retails for $1100.

People in Santa Cruz would rather have a real Bontrager, rather
than a Trek, which is what the Privateer Comp is.

Keith has fielded this criticism several times already. The Privateer
is manufactured by Trek - with Keith's design and quality control. It is
as real a Bontrager as the Race and Race Lite. He specs the components.

Wish he would have been a little more involved in the weld and paint
design and quality control. The few I have seen just aren't up
to the standard set by his Race and Race Light bikes. While I
fully understand and appreciate the cost difference, I believe
these differences contribute to concerns like those above.

I have to disagree with you (in part anyway) on this one bikiebob.

There's only one thing this bike has in common with a trek. It uses
iron and carbon in the material it's made from.

There are a fair number of the Privateers getting ridden heer in SC,
as well as the homegrown variety. There's one under my butt every 3
rides or so (complexities of testing).

Good luck Sergio.

I have a serial number 99 of the Bontrager Privateer, size small and
the welds and paint both look very nice. I think this is the best deal
I have ever seen on a frame. Finaly somebody decided to take REAL fram
deseign to mass market production. It is agile and comfy as a race
light, it doesn't compare to the workmanship or the alignment on my
Bruce Gordon handbuilt road frame, but then the whole bike cost about
the same as that frame.....
