[ANNOUNCE][F] Edinburgh afpmeet -- details (26 July 1998)

On Sunday the 26th of July there shall be an afpmeet (atmders welcome
too!) in Edinburgh.
Unless the weather's really grotty, this will take the form of[1] a
ferry trip to Inchcolm island, which will make it more interesting
than just sitting in a pub. Inchcolm[2] has a twelfth-century
Augustinian abbey, part of the island is a bird sanctuary, and the
waters surrounding it abound with grey seals (according to this here
carrier bag). The cruise takes three and a half hours, of which one
and a half are actually on the island; we can spend the remainder of
the time discussing and consuming, as appropriate, CCCBs, hedgehogs,
bread products, ppoint inflation and whatever other issues take our
fancy.
If the weather is grotty, we can always go to a pub instead. Adrian
has suggested the Hogshead, on Bread Street, which connects with
Lothian Road opposite the ABC cinema; next to the Laser Quest
which used to be a Scotmid. (If you say so, Adrian.) If this is so,
perhaps we should meet there later (say 7?). If you're interested in
coming, email me and I'll email everyone who's done so on the Friday
to finalise arrangements.
The ferry departs at 2.30pm; if the weather's really good aim to be
there half an hour early to be sure of getting a place. The cruise
costs UKP 7.50. The ferry departs from Hawes Pier, South Queensferry
(underneath the Forth Rail Bridge); a quick look at a bus map shows
plenty of buses heading that way[4]. At least two people are going to
be driving there, so if you want a lift email me (I'm not posting my
address!).
And for those who are going to complain they can't make it on that
date; well, you can't please everyone; it's just more incentive to
arrange another afpmeet afterwards. ;^)

[1] Or at least start with; if anyone's not satisfied with that and a
pubmeet afterwards, they can have an afp paint-the-Forth-bridge
party.
[2] Not named, as popular legend has it, after St. Colm, but after a
certain afper Known To Us.
[3] Oh lordy; whilst looking for online maps of Edinburgh, I've come
across a Microsoft one. It looks like it dates from the 1910s. ;^) It
has the city boundary not including Leith or Portobello or
Liberton or Corstorphine... Craiglockhart is labelled as a "town".
Maybe it was when Siegfried Sassoon recuperated there; but it's
several miles within the built-up area nowadays... It goes without
saying that the M8 does not feature on this map either. If any
Edinburgh resident wants a good[5] laugh, they can point their
