Listen up you little homophobes.

Which hell would you choose?

Choice #1

You grow up gay in a conservative Christian family. Your whole life from
a kid throughout your adult years you are gay. You can't change and you
have tried and tried. All your friends who once cared for you have now
rejected you. Your family uses the Bible to condemn you to hell. No one
will accept you. You find a partner. You lose your job. Your family
disowns you. Someone shoots your boyfriend with a gun because he wants
to waste some fags. You are denied access to the hospital and he dies.
The church you once went to has rebelled against you. The killer walks
free. Your landlord cancels your lease, because you are gay. Many other
gay people you once knew winded up dead, because they committed
suicide. You have no money and no life.

Choice #2

You are gay and have to spend your life in flames. But this time you get
to meet all of the gay people you knew in the previous life. No longer
are you alone. Although the flames are torturous, you get to spend it
with real friends. You are free from all those conservative Christians
who persecuted you in the life before. All those people who disowned
you, hurt you, killed your boyfriend, denied you rights, and embarrassed
you are now in heaven with Jesus, becuase they did the Lord's work. No
longer do you have to put up with them again.

You realiza that the life described in #! is a Nigtnare, and that in many
major US cities, and in many European countries GBLT people live in
"community", sharing churches, civic organization, businesses, educational
instititions, and all the other things that can make life meaningful.

You realize that even where GBLT do not enjoy all the rights enjoyed by
their feelows, that GBLT and caring heterosexuals are working to change
things, just as Black and soe Whites worked together to destroy Jim Crow.

You realize if there is indeed a hell, the most likely occupants will be bigots.

You n longer choose to live in the closet.

I take the position that Hell is a condition of the living, those who do
not love.

I take the position that Hell is not a place for the soul. Instead, it is a
place invented for the mind in order to control the population with an iron
fist.

Alas, most organized religion has evolved to serve the interest of the
ruling elites and to maintain the status quo. This is not to say that such
religions are devoid of spiritual truth, but one is more likely to find it
in the great mystical traditions.

Um, sorry, but a good many of them will find their way down there. Go
figure.

"Many" major U.S. cities? Hardly. I'd say "some"...that is, the major
metropolitan areas. But now it is too expensive in most of these
areas, for any gay person to consider moving there (except perhaps for
Miami, Florida). Example: "Gay Mecca" San Francisco...where rents have
skyrocketed. So here in the U.S., the majority of gay men and women
still live in terror, across small-town and rural Amerika. You paint a
much brighter picture than our current state of affairs.

"Many" European contries? Hardly. I'd say "northern European
countries", which are about 8-10 at the most. The rest of Europe
(eastern and southern) remain terribly homophobic, with rare
exception.

Well, you again exaggerate what "goodness" exists in the majority of
nations in this world, when it comes to gay rights. All of Latin
America (a continent and one-half!), Africa (a continent), Asia
(another continent), and the Middle East. Sure, there are *some people
in strongly Catholic and Muslim nations struggling for gay
equality...but way too few to make any real difference at this point.

I mean, I could say that, back in Colonial Amerika, there were "GBLT
and caring heterosexuals" working to change things. I'm sure there
were, but saying so does not make the situation less dire than it was
(or is).

There is presently somewhat more gay awareness in several Latin
American countries, than there are in Muslim ones. In fact, we have
yet to see in the media, any gay resistance in Islamic nations...yet.
Of course, I have no doubt there are some "GBLT and caring
heterosexuals" in these Muslim cultures...but that is not the same
thing as effecting any real changes.

Your rose-tinted glasses muddy you from perceiving the situation as it
really stands: deplorable, in most nations outside of Western
Democracies (excluding the U.S., Greece and Italy, which remain very
backwards, socially).

So you've gone from atheism to paganism. Perhaps one day you'll realize
that that wasn't a big change because they're both fundamentally the
same.

Not if my deity is the same that Christianity, Judaism, and Islam purport
to be about.

You really are sad, "Watson." Hoping you get some love...and experience of
God...in your life.
