Ok,

I'm pretty much through most of my exams (well.... 5/6ths, but the next
one's on Wednesday, so who cares? [1]), so I thought we might just have
a bash at organising this :-)

IIRC, Heather mentioned something about a pub in Framwellgate moor? Well
I'm in, as long as:
a) someone gives me a lift <fx:pleads>
b) someone tells me a bus route there
Either would be greatly appreciated... :)

I'm in Durham until the 29th of June, and I'm free from about the 8th
until then. I have *very* little to do in that three weeks ('cept,
ho-hum, the Summer Ball), so it shouldn't be a problem sorting out
*when* in that particular time-space.

Anyone else want to join Julie, Heather and I this time? Just so we can
have the honour of calling it a meet 'proper' rather than the
embarassingly diminutive 'minimeet' :-)

Go on, you know know you want to.

You don't?

Sure?

I'll be supplying cccbs....

Damn. Worth try, anyway....

Anyway, whatever happens, I'm still game....

Jamie

[1] Um, okay, maybe I should, but I'm a *student* fer feck's sake :-)

I'd be interested if I could remember where Framwellgate Moor was.

Ditto. I'd prefer a lift though, as I have a minor phobia of getting on
busses by myself (I never believe they'll let me get off again).

I have huge amounts to do. Although I admit this is my fault for
volunteering to play in the college musical. If anyone's in the area,
Mary's college, 10th - 12th June. I have some time after that, though.

Great idea. But does it *have* to be in Fram? There's plenty of pubs
in Durham, you know.

BTW, who are you other Durham people?

Yes. That's where the pub is where we want to try the beer. Not to

For goodness' sake, it's only two miles from the colleges..... :)

Well, I would assuredly like to attend provided:
a) It's after my exams finish (june 18)
b) Someone would be gullible^W kind enough to offer me some crash space.
Preston to Durham isn't a particularly long train ride but it's longer
than I'd like to make twice in one day.

Other than that though, it sounds great :-).

Preston?
As in Preston, Lancashire?

I hadn't realised there were any people from Lancashire on this froup...

Aww, diddums ;-)

I'm sure that it won't be too hard to get there by bus, but, if not,
*som*eone is bound to be able to give you a lift. Hopefully.

Well, I think its only fair that Heather gets first choice, since she
was probably put out the most at the Sunderland incident (don't worry,
Marie, we forgive you <g> ).

Hmmm - with Tom's exams to take into account, I think the best time
would be from the 19th to the 28th or so.... any objections? Or

To those conditions I say:

a) Understandable, and taken into account in my reply to Heather.

b) Hmmm - I should be able to fit one extra person in my room over
night, if my roommate has no objections. I'll make sure to ask him. Of
course, that's if you can stand either of our taste in music (I told you
that he's a punk fan on IRC, and of course, there's The Crowded House
Factor to be taken into account <g>).

And I live in Nelson, which is at the other end of the M65 from him and
sort of 'down and turn left' from Olivia.

The guy who posts as the 'Bellman of Ankh' live in Burnley which is the
next town to me.

Also several afpers live or study in Manchester and Liverpool which,
despite the actions of some plonker in Whitehall, are Lancastrian places
as well.

Mart.

Ps Olivia, just to get you worried, I may turn up to the October meet!

Er, dunno about hold my own. There seems to be a surfeit of meets in
Cambridge ATM (all these students, i dunno, what's the world coming to, in
my day we were all too busy working to organise meets :-) ).

Having one in Preston might work tho', although I suspect Lancaster is a
more interesting place.

Actually anyone over 25 who was born in Liverpool is a Lancastrian.

Until someone had the 'bright' idea of changing the county boundaries in
1974, Liverpool, Warrington, Wigan and Manchester etc. were in
Lancashire.

Lincolnshire has got the south bank of the Humber back, unfortunately we
haven't got the north bank of the Mersey back ( yet! ).

I've found out since that I might be going home on the 26th - therefore
the 24th would be a little better for me....

There is a few more things to be taken into account - a swelling of
interest seems to have been stirred up (unintentionally) by myself on
IRC yesterday evening :) Therefore there is the possibility that we
might be blessed by the presence of Naomi and Afphantom :)

IIRC, Naomi's last exam is on the 21st of June, so she'd be okay for a
meet on the 24th. And Afphantom's rapidly shrinking time (due to
impressive demand ;-) means that he might only be able to make it to the
meet mid-week or so. So hopefully the 24th should be okay... tell us if
it ain't guys...

There is also the question of crashspace - if my roommate is away, or
has already left college, I might be able to squeeze another in my room,
but if not, the two new additions might just need a space to sleep
(Tom's already bagged one place in my room). Of course, if they're not
coming the question is moot, so tell me if you can, guys <g>

Hmmm... seems OK so far.

Not a Thursday. Not a Sunday. Not Friday 11th. Not Saturdays 12th

Given that we shouldn't really clash with Peter's Finalsmoot it sounds
like Friday 25th is looking firm favourite...

Okay, I guess I'm outvoted :( By afpeople on IRC as well as afp.

So I suppose I'm game for Friday - I'll just have to leave on the Sunday
instead then.

But we might, again, need more crash space. Brett has joined the crowd
of 'maybes', and Naomi has expressed the likelihood of her coming to the
meet. This is, surprisingly, growing at a fair rate. Any offers for
space then? I'm afraid I can still only fit in two people at the most.

Jamie

ps. the offer about the cccbs must sadly be rescinded - I went to
Whittard today to stock up, but I sadly found out that they don't stock
them in the summer :-(

Sorry folks.

But the Lincolnshire Brigade didn't get what they wanted and neither did
the Yorkshire side. They wanted the north lindsey and east riding back
but neither part has officially been given their former names back.

The people of the Humber region are slightly peeved about the name
change. It cost the south humber region 3million pounds to change it's
name...well the letterheads any way :0(

The Police and Firbrigade are still humberside Fire and Police and the
administration is still the same. Both services would lose money if they
changed.

I feel very proud of humberside for some strange reason and I'll never
be a 'Lincolnshire person' I wasn't born there and don't intend to die
there either! Give us back HUMBERSIDE!!!

Hmm, think I can probably do Friday. I can offer crash space for one,
preferably female as I'm at Mary's, providing they don't mind that I've
got to get my room clear by 11:00am.

I'm still going to need a lift though.

Oh goody. I really can't justify not going ringing when I need the

Well.... I _s'pose_ I could squeeze some people into my
currently-inhabited-by-one-person 3-bedroom house...

Don' worry Jamie I'll get some from Fenwick's (last time I looked a
couple of weeks ago they had several different sorts).

That's OK, we can pick you up after we get Jamie from Van Mildert. Mail
me nearer the time and remind me, though! :)

Sorry I can't offer anyone any crash space....

Seriosuly though, New College is familiar. I went up there a couple of
times a few years ago. I may be able to find my way back, but I'm not
making any promises[1].

There are two reasons why Ted "Sailor" Heath should be hung, drawn and
quartered.
One is that he took us into the EEC, thus starting a quarter of a century of
political lies, subterfuges and chicanery of which the Euro and the
resultant propoganda scam are the latest manifestation.
The other is the wholesale re-drawing, re-naming and abolition of Britain's
historical County boundaries. At least we have now got an East Riding of
Yorkshire once more.
All we need now is for the West Riding and North riding to be properly
reconstituted - and that includes getting back the bits which were given
away to Lancashire (fx/ snorts in disgust /fx).

Well, if you want humbugside back, you can have it, as long as you pick up
the bill for the bridge.

Funny you should say that John...WE ARE! We pay more tax etc. than the
north bank do!

IIRC the East riding isn't officially the east riding just East
Yorkshire which isn't quite the same thing...of course they could have
named it whilst I wasn't looking (G) which is highly likely...I'll check
on Tuesday at the TI and let you know (BG).

Oh, they keep changing the name of it. Sometimes it's East Yorkshire,
sometimes it's the East Riding and I think it used to be part of
Humberside as well. But whenever I need to refer to it (which isn't that
often) I just say East Yorkshire.

That's fine, as long as the bits that were taken away from Lancs
aren't given back in return...

I believe that Walsden would be Lancs :-(.

Right - I thought I had better get all the relevant info gathered in one
post, so when better to do it than now? Um, except after my exams of
course. Ah, what the hell.

Note - this is emphatically NOT an announcement - it is merely a
collation of the information and responses we've had so far. Virtually
everything is subject to change. Probably.

Right.
Date - Friday 25th of June
Place - The Tap & Spile pub, Framwellgate Moor, Durham (more specific
instructions have been mentioned, but I haven't managed to track it all
down yet).
Attendants (definite, probable, and uncertain) -

Heather Knowles
Julie 'Ingenious Paradox'
Nobby
Tom Walmsley
Susan M
Naomi & Garner
Anejo
Afphantom
Sam(antha)'frogjuice'
And my humble self.

The evening will probably involve the usual drinking and merriement, and
then possibly a curry down the road.

Crash space is limited, I'm afraid, although I *may* be able to book one
or two rooms at my college. I can't speak for Susan, though (who's at a
different college to me). Tom has bagged my floor space, though I may be
able to fit another person in my double room if my roommate has left for
home by then (yet to be ascertained). Julie thinks she can fit a few
people in at her house. And Susan can probably fit one person
(preferably female) in her room. Its not quite clear where everybody
will be staying overnight, but I expect we'll sort it out <fx:offers up
a prayer>

So that's it so far. I've set follow-ups to poster on this one if anyone
wants to correct me on details, or whether they can come or not.
Doubtless an Announce will be developed in the fulness of time. Anyone
else who wants to join us mail me, and I'll hope we can squeeze you in.
Fervently.

Jamie
