AUS City Councillor Quits
After being the target of homophobic harassment for over a year,
a South
Australian lesbian has resigned her city council post in fear of
violence.
In the state of South Australia, openly lesbian Port Adelaide
Enfield city
councillor Savannah Considine resigned her post August 10
following a
campaign of homophobic harassment she says dates back to her
first council
meeting in May 1997. She was the target of "crass and offensive
remarks" to her
face (at least one incident having been witnessed by Mayor
Johanna McLuskey),
in e-mails and in faxes that led her to file two police
complaints. Although she
was advised that she had a strong legal case, she made the
"agonizing" decision to
resign out of fear of physical violence. Considine, a crisis
worker for the Western
Metropolitan Domestic Violence Service, had represented the
heavily-lesbian
Semaphore ward. "I think it's very sad when we lose someone who
has their
community at heart," McLuskey said. A November election will be
held to fill
Considine's seat for the remaining two years of her term.
Considine also expressed concern for the future of the Port
Adelaide Enfield
council itself, especially with respect to grassroots
representation. She charged in
an interview with the "Advertiser" newspaper that major political
parties were
waging a "war" within the council, particularly between its Labor
members and
independents. She also said that relations between the council
and its staff had
broken down.

Is someone being exterminated, or are you using really
tired rhetoric, thus lessening the impact of your terms
when they are actually needed?
I suggest that when you make generalizations, you provide
proof. Otherwise, they are disregarded without consideration.
Also, be careful assigning viewpoints to people who have
not stated agreement with said viewpoints. Any of this
making any sense? Print this out, and read it slowly. Then

Been there, done that. She is obviously being abused by a person or persons
who is mimicking her name, in order to slander her good reputation. Now, I
wonder who this could be.
Her newsletter subscription--of which I am a recipient--only sends me the
messages she really *does author, not the fake ones.

The rhetoric I use is most appropriate, considering the level of hatred
expressed against minorities, including gays...and against those who defend
them. In fact, calling them anything less than "Nazis" would be
misinformation. In fact, misinformation is the Nazis' greatest talent...to
which no doubt you aspire.

The proof is in the pudding: Deja News...which never lies. In fact, as Nicole
has already pointed out in some of her articles: you need only examine the
