In the unlikely event that anyone out there is interested, here follows
a reminder about the planned Ipswich afpmeet for this coming weekend.

There is an Ipswich afpmeet planned for this coming weekend. In
Ipswich, or more specifically in the Brewery Tap in Ipswich, from around
2pm on Sunday December 14th. Some people will be there. If you would
like to be one of them and need more details email me.

Thank you for your attention

For those who haven't been to the 'Tap' before (I wonder why they named
a pub after me?), it's a lovely building adjoining the local Brewery
(hence it's name).

They do a range of Real Ales, ad the food is very good. If the weather
is okay (unlikely), we could sit outside, but the inside of the bar area
is lovely and atmospheric anyway. It's a quiet(ish) place, but seems
very homely (to me at least).

Anyway, like my beloved Carol says, we'd like to meet quite a few of you
there. If you want directions, mail either of us and we'll oblige :-)

- i s'pect the pub's a trifle older than thee, tap; i'm posilute
the brewery is; so your question should surely be phrased:

"I wonder why they named *me* after that particular pub ?"

- which invites the further question,

"and how did they *know* you'd be ipswich bound ?"

- yup; i can vouch for that;

- might the butley oyster not be possible, later on that night,
and a couple of drivers keep off the alcohol ? (yes, that does
mean i volunteer for one - so long as i can find a shopsitter
for the monday after; the which i should know, later tonight) -
and 'twould give attending afpers a taste of the next best thing
to t'morris...

Um, no. The pub's a new-fangled thang, having been added onto the
brewery after the management buyout (which saved the brewery from
destruction) in 1991 - the Brewery one the other hand is indeed older
than Tap, having been built in 1896 replacing an older one which stood
on that same spot. (last year was Tolly Cobbold's 250th anniversary
BTW)

Sounds good to me - but then I'm the kind of person who actually enjoys
folk music, provided it's the sort sung by groups of real people sitting
in nice cosy pubs with plenty of beer. Whether you'll find any others
afpers prepared to endure that kind of evening remains to be seen.

IIRC, the Tap can also boast the "As Seen on TV" label as it was the one
that appeared in that "Troubleshooter" series with Sir John
Harvey-Fatbastard.[1]

[1] Sorry, this series was required viewing for my HND Computer Studies[2]
[2] Well, the Business Awareness module anyway...

You remember correctly, young Harassed.

If you ever get to go into the gift shop at the Brewery, one of the
things they sell is copies of 'Troubleshooter' the book...

One thing I am looking forward to is trying out Tolly's year-beer. The
1996 one was excellent (Cobbold's 250), and we still haven't tried the
'97 one. Still a chance happens this weekend :-)

Sorry about the delay in replying, I've got a bit of catching up to do.

In article <348f45ad....@news.lspace.org>, Alex the Eternally
Harassed <hara...@lspace.org> writes

>[1] Sorry, this series was required viewing for my HND Computer Studies[2]

You still have to do that for HND CS?

<rant>
When I was at Plymouth in 79 it was called Business Organisation, and
the guy who took us was one of theses quantity not quality types.

We all compared the marks we got and for the same content the thicker
essay got a higher mark.

Also the guy didn't stick to the syllabus and so when I had to re-sit
this one module ( having done OK in the rest as I have always been good
at maths and logic etc. ) I had no idea what half the questions meant!
</rant>

Anyway got a HNC now and a reasonable job writing ADA.

Mart.
