Flu Vaccine = false positive for HIV

Several years ago, I received a flu vaccine for the first time in my
life. Several weeks later, news sources reported that some batches of
this vaccine may cause people who received it, to test "false
positive" for HIV. This alarming revelation also made this the *last
flu shot I'll ever get!
There was never any follow-up in the news, as to how *long the
false-positive results would last: a few months, few years, a
lifetime? It seems that this issue was swiftly swept under the
carpet. (Were some of us guinea pigs?)
So does anyone remember this news event? If so, I need to have my
memory refreshed, as to what exact year that was. If anyone knows
more about this issue, I'd like to know...as I am interested in
researching this flu shot dilemma, and perhaps doing an article for
numerous gay web sites. Thanks in advance.

I have never gotten a flu vaccine, it always sounded a bit suspicious for
young adults, in good health to get a shot every year to ward off a simple
flu virus....yeah, I've been laid out with it before, but I'd rather let my
body develope a natural immunity than take those shots every year that I
have no idea what they are really putting into my body.

The influenza pandemic of 1917-1918 killed more people than did the
first world war -- millions more. We are not considering a cold in
the nose here but a deadly disease.
If you are somehow informed to the effect that there are "natural"
immunities and "unnatural" immunities you have hold of a fact that has
eluded all of science.

More than WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam combined; over 20 million

The problem with influenza is that by the time you develop immunity
to one strain (by catching it), a new strain has come along.

Cross-reactivity after innoculations is a problem with many simple
screening tests from mono to syphilis. The 'false' positive is
transitory, and is revealed to be a false positive with more specific
testing. Use of Accutane has been shown to occasionally give a false
positive on the HIV screening test too.
Most HIV testing kits have 1 to 2% false positive rate, which means that
when testing low risk populations, there are more false positives than
true positives initially detected. Further more specific testing will
clear up the confusion.
What we need is a population that has a better understanding of basic
science, so these things do NOT come as such a shock.

Darren, I have to agree with you...regardless of all these
ultraconservative queers whose daddy is the status quo, including
every tenet spewed by the AMA. Haven't gay people learned yet, that
trusting the medical establishment only invites us to become more and
more the laboratory rats of the human race? Look at all the marvelous
anti-cancer and anti-aging spinoffs coming out of the death of
thousands of gay "patients" dying from the man-made virus called AIDS!

I can half-consider someone citing the horrible influenza epidemic, as
reason for people to get flu shots. But when these right-wing goody
two-shoes never exclaim concern over flu shots testing positive for
HIV, then one must step back with alarm. I see you have already been
chastised by our benevolent Ward, whom shall forevermore be known as
"warden" (a la Nurse Ratchet).
With the deterioration of all of our infrastructures these days, one
has even less reason to trust the medical society...especially
gayfolk! HMO's are pushing electroshock therapy to the vulnerable
elderly and disabled...not out of true medical knowledge, but for the
big bucks this technique garners. Our nation's food supply is rapidly
becoming tainted because of the dismantling of our health codes,
accelerated by the birth of NAFTA.
Likewise, education and environment are two other serious aspects of
the collapse of Amerika's infrastructures. Yet Hawaiin queers like
Warden encourage us to dance into the arms of our enemies...surrunder
our entire bodies, minds, and souls, to whatever toxins they care to
inject us with. You'd think that anyone who is gay-identitifed would
be the first to question such practices. Unfortunately, too many gays
are really status-quo heterosexist in every way, except when it comes
to getting their rocks off. These kind, I call "gay turncoats".
