We arrived in Ipswich at about 8pm. After driving around Ipswich at
least 3 times trying to find Star Lane (including driving past the pub
wherein the meet was in full swing) we eventually found St Peter's
Street, the Car Park & the pub and joined the meet at about 8:40ish.
Things were already well underway... after discussion we found that we
hadn't been the only ones to get lost. Much beer was imbibed... along
with CCCBs, strawberries, blackberries, CCGs and various shades of
Chocolate (the white chocolate with vanilla was *especially* nice!).
Entertainment was provided by the newly formed "AFP Kazoo & Nose Flute
Band" (and someone with a Swanee whistle doing Clanger impressions), and
also by the battery powered hedgehog proving that although the hedgehog
can never be buggered, dinosaurs can be! Alas, the evening (as usual)
was all too short, and we left (via the very good Kebab house) to go and
pitch at CC (not easy in the dark!).
Woke up at 4am! (Thank You Cyril and Elton!) Eventually more bods
arrived and pitched in the "AFP & noisy campers field" <fx: hurt look>
what, us? <end hurt look>. The large mallet provided by Russ for half
the field proved very useful, as pegging down was like trying to nail
into concrete. Previously arranged deals were done with the Continental
contingent and then it was time for CC proper to start: Drinking.. Paint
your own figures.. drinking.. buying things.. drinking.. joining of fan
clubs.. drinking.. watching the Maskerade.. drinking.. arm wrestling..
drinking.. trolley racing.. drinking.. cabbage duelling.. drinking..
sing song.. drinking.. (you get the general idea if you weren't lucky
enough to be there).
Some people then adjourned to the "temporary Temple" to attend the
Whisk(e)y tasting (I'm a bit hazy about this bit - I wasn't there, I was
in my tent next door, and the SO was in no fit state to comment!). There
was plenty of revelry (I know 'cos I couln't get to sleep), highlights
of which were (apparently): Gid falling asleep in his chair and falling
over backwards (still in the chair and still asleep).. Julia's chair
deciding to turn Japanese and commit Hara Kiri.. the strategic
positioning of a *vom* sign outside a certain noisy tent (no names, no
pack drill!).. and *who* was that asleep in the middle of the whiskey
tasting?? (noone seemed to know!). Eventually (about 3:30am I think) the
revellers disbanded (and I got some sleep!).
Next morning noone seemed too much the worse for wear, and most of us
went back up the hill for more of the same (although the drinking played
a less major role as a lot of people were going to be driving home).
As a result of this weekend, I have a few questions (probably some of
lifes imponderables): What happened to the game of Cluedo? (I was
looking forward to that.).. Why was the signing queue *so* long on the
Sunday?.. And.. Why doesn't Gid have the decency to get a really good
hangover?
Finally (and definitely *not* leastly) a very big "Thank You" to "Miss
Flitworth", Elton and the rest of the team for a fab weekend.. I
*really* enjoyed myself. If next years Con is half as good it'll be
worth going to <fx:plug "So book now">.

And as I did quite vocally on Friday evening, I once again apologise for
the extremely dodgy directions :-)
For future reference, all possible Ipswich meets are likely to be held
in The Plough, although much of this does depend on whether they'll have
us back...
Thanks to one and all for making the evening a success, especially the
lovely Carol, who thought of it in the first place...

If possible I would be able to assist in organising, attend (of course)

I'd like to thank the special sound effects team in the orange tent

You even inspired some of the *vom*mers to do an[2] immitation later

That mystery person donated the bottle of cider that the *vom* sign
found itself propped up against, although trying to silently put down a
bottle of cider on uneven ground, at 2:30am, and then leaning a *vom*
card against it, is not something I will try again in a hurry.
Then Gid got up and fell on him.
He got up about 7am and wandered off, although I'm not 100% sure he was
awake at the time........
Does anyone know if this guy made it out alive? ;)

See Bugsy, I said it wasn't me!

All I can say is they were quieter then the red tent, but that didn't

Well, I'm not entirely sure I know the full answer to this, but....
When we decided to get up and face the world on Sunday morning, one of
the first things Tap had to do was drag the 'bodies' out from under the
wheels of his car and return them to the darts game.

*somebody* arranged the two dummies from the darts game (after having

tents!!
I hope that clears things up for you!

It certainly looked to me that they were involved in a very serious
road[1]-traffic accident during the night. Maybe they were from forn parts
and didn't realise what side of the road[2] the cars were coming from.
In fact, IIRC, one had been run down and was lying under the nearside front
wheel and the other was lying prone in front of the bonnet.
It's amazing what you can remember with a major hangover, sometimes...

Take what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
I was seen to partake of a number[1] of alcohol inclusive beverages the
weekend before CCDE, including a bottle of Crazy Eds Chilli beer which I
advise everyone to avoid, and the following morning was wide awake at
7am, all bright eyed and bushy tailed[2]. I sat out in the garden
reading magazines and listening to the radio for a while. I was
perfectly okay until about 3pm, when my head felt like a small elephant
had landed on it. After a short nap I was perfectly okay again. The
only reasonable explanation was that 3pm was the time that the alcohol
finally wore off. This was the sort of idea I was attempting to convey.

Well, since I was the one who put the dummies back on the bench, I ought
to state at this time that any untoward gestures by the male towards the
female were completely accidental.

As some of my friends will tell you, once I get to a certain point I get
abusive, but only verbally. I have no real 'violent' part to me,
although I do get very irate.
This all started a number of years ago, probably around 1988 time. I was
a student at the time, and for sone reason (I forget exactly why) I
ended up going on an all-day drinking session. Before much longer, this
was a regular occurence, until it got so common I couldn't stop. All I
succeeded in doing was to make myself extremely poor, and to drive away
a wonderful girl who I happened to love completely. (Incidentally, if
you are reading this Sam, please get in touch...)

Well, the CC weekend was only the second time in the last 8 years or so
when I've been that bad. I do like to drink, and normally I'm very good
at controlling just how much I take. I blame the heat, the enjoyment of
seeing friends after so long, and the rather nice beer.
Oh, and gross stupidity on my part too...

Not normally. Like I said, I'm usually quite happy with a few drinks,
and I really hate getting so drunk that I can't remember things.

AFAIAA, the only way I need help is the encouragement I get from
messages like yours.
To everybody who cares, my way of dealing with it will be to moderate my
drinking down to just a couple of drinks a week.

Blockage? Suspension, more like.

Better still, order the taxi *before* you start drinking. That way you
don't even have to be able to form coherent sentances by the end of the
evening[1]
