[Quoted-printable killed off once more. *sigh* --Tap]

The date: 9th October 1999
The time: Unless there are complaints, I'll say 2pm.
The place: The Hogshead, Oxford Road, Manchester

So wass goin' on?
- -----------------
Nothing much - it's just that this is a convenient date for those who
won't be able to make the 12th November AFPmeet (being organised by
Anejo). There should be a good attendance at both, so don't be
concerned about which you go to, though of course you'll be going to
both if you have the chance!

The 8th is a Friday, which means that if you're that way inclined
there's the possibility of attending one of our local haunts, the
Rockworld all-nighter, which plays goth, industrial, metal, NWOBHM,
trad-rock, punk and cheese on three floors until 7am, followed by
fried food, sleep, and being up in time for the AFPmeet...

The plan is to meet in the pub, and spend a pleasant afternoon
nattering, drinking the variety of interesting beers, ales, wines and
meads offered by the Hogshead. There's food there, or we could nip
down the road into Rusholme for a curry later on. Any other events
will be taken into account once I find out about them (when I return
to Manchester in a few weeks' time), failing that we'll end up at
Dooferlad's playing games stolen from ISIHAC.

But it's still August! Why are you telling me this now?
- -------------------------------------------------------
Why, so you can keep the date clear, silly! Reminders will be posted
to AFPA nearer the time (1 month and 1 week), but I'm trying to gauge
interest, jog memories etc.

How do I get there?
- -------------------

By train to Piccadilly:
-----------------------
>From Piccadilly station, walk down the station approach and keep
going until you reach a large park on your left. This is Piccadilly
Gardens. On the far side of this park is Piccadilly Bus Station.

You'll want any forty-something service except the 47, to the MRI
(Manchester Royal Infirmary, next to the Hogshead, good for stomach
pumps ;) ). Should cost somewhere between 30-60p, go for Magic Buses
because they're cheaper. The stop is about 20 feet away from the HH,
it's clearly visible.

If you feel like walking (20 mins - half an hour depending on pace),
go down the station approach, double back on yourself and continue
until you reach Whitworth Street (big crossroads, practically under
the station itself). Turn right, and continue until you reach Oxford
Road station, then follow the instructions from there.

By train to Oxford Road:
------------------------
>From Oxford Road station, walk down the approach until you reach
Oxford Road (surprisingly) at the junction with Whitworth Street.
Turn right, there's a bus stop about 50 feet down the road on the far
side. You want the same bus routes as for Piccadilly.

If you feel like walking, get to Oxford Road, turn right (south; out
of the city) and walk for about 20 minutes, past the BBC, Manchester
Metropolitan, the Precinct Centre, Manchester Uni, Manchester
Student's Union and the Academy. The Hogshead will be on your left.
Easy to spot - it has a large cylindrical towery thing over the door,
with glass at the top like a lighthouse, lit green at night.

By coach to Chorlton Street Bus Station
---------------------------------------
>From the bus station, head south over Canal Street to Whitworth
Street, turn right, walk to Oxford Road station and follow
appropriate directions.

Else, head north, espy Picadilly Gardens on your right, and spot the
number forty-something bus stop on the road you're on.

If all else fails
-----------------
E-mail myself ( grimoire at twisted.gothicdreams.net ) or Dooferlad (
mchu7jat at fs2.ee.umist.ac.uk ) and we'll make every effort to meet
you, direct you etc.

Where do I sleep?
- -----------------
If you require somewhere to crash, both Dooferlad and myself can put
people up. Doofie's will be more comfortable and closer; my place is
a bus / taxi ride away. I'm sure other Manc and Manc-close AFPers
will offer crash space as necessary.

You can probably track down B&B's etc. from Manchester Online (
http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk ). There's a B&B on Moss Lane, 10
mins walk from the pub and just down the road from Chez Doofs called
Verdene. Miraculously, I happen to know that the phone number is 0161
224 1576.

Where do I park?
- ----------------
If you're travelling by car, you'll need somewhere to leave it.
Sadly, both Doofs and I live in rather disreputable areas (Moss Side
and Whalley Range) and so leaving your cars near our houses isn't
that good an idea, tho' Moss Lane itself isn't too bad.

Public car parks are expensive, and tend to be located towards the
town centre. My suggestion is to ask us where you can find a fairly
safe side road, probably near Victoria Park, to leave your
automobile.

Is that all?
- ------------
Yep, I think so. Any suggestions, ideas, intentions to appear etc.
can be directed to me. If the Friday / Sunday really is more amenable
to the majority, we could move the AFPmeet... that's one reason that
I'm posting this so early. Anyway, feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Alex
