Please allow me to advise that Sky One have no immediate plans to
broadcast in widescreen

Question: The newest series of Angel (series three)
is being shown in the USA in wide-screen format. Note that this isn't
anamorphic widescreen (like Sky digital), but is letterboxed inside a 4:3
broadcast.
I understand that Sky One is not normally shown in widescreen, but if the
analogue broadcasts are in widescreen letterbox, then perhaps Sky should
consider either anamorphic widescreen or 4:3 letterboxed widescreen.
What are the current plans for Angel Season Three?

I've already asked him that one. He claimed, rather spookily, that he
wielded only the power of death, rather than control over stations.
Ooer.
Tim.
Which will be translated by those dodgy rumours people on the teletext that
he's going to kill Cordelia off in the episode or something. :-)

Sky could care less. In fact they commissioned a show last year called "The
Strangerers", a pretty poor sci-fi comedy, which was clearly shot for 16:9
but Sky cropped it to 4:3 and it was painfully obvious.
In fact the only WS I think Sky have ever shown is the "Triangle" ep of the
X-Files. And I'm only assuming this as I know that it was meant to be shown
that way.
Yep, Fox wouldn't give them anything else but the widescreen "version" (not
really a version because that would imply that a pan and scan version
exists - it doesn't). The episode wouldn't be watchable in 4:3 due to some
of the split screen effects they used.

Everybody take note: Tim Minear is now answering my questions before I
have a chance to post them. :-P

My stars, it's full of gods...
Woo. Those spooky psychic writers, eh?
Well, he's either psychic or you're just getting predictable. :-p

It wouldn't be beyond Sky to do their own P&S
Won't do any good, I'm afraid. :(
The bottom line is that Sky One will not go widescreen until they want to,
no matter what anyone says.
I've e-mailed them numerous times about it and I get the same response:
"Thankyou for your e-mail and please accept my apologies for the delay in
responding, but I had some important sitting-around-and-looking-busy to do
for my boss before I realised that I actually had real work to do!
Sky One have no immediate plans to transmit in widescreen, even though it
would make perfect sense for us to do so, what with us being a digital
channel. Hell - we don't even broadcast our own programmes in widescreen, so
we're hardly likely to do it with some import show!
Sky always welcome viewers' comments and feedback and all the points raised
in your email have been noted and passed to Sky One for their information,
first class - in the f*ckin' bin where they belong, you tosser.

Well, it will *now*, obviously. :-)

Either way, I'm slightly worried.

Might be an idea to send them a link to a groups.google for 'Tim Minear'
to prove we're not making him up, whilst you're at it...

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.
Still won't make a difference. :(
ROFL, very good.

I suspect even Sky realised that the episode would be unwatchable.
Alex
Like that matters! ;)

That didn't stop them from having the voice over at the end credits start
early start 5 minutes early a couple of years back.
Or from putting ad breaks at stupid places.

Or from making the Strangerers for that matter.
Or most of the other Sky productions.

They could always do "Sunnydale uncovered".
synopsis: vampires dine on pissed up tourists...
Or "LA cops chase demon crooks".
Don't be silly - this is Sky One...
That last one would need to be:
"Girl LA cops with big guns (and possibly fast cars) chase demon crooks".
:-)
BSkyB - taking "bad TV" to new lows...
