Hi Linda you can use SFC.exe "System File Checker", to restore files it
should be in the windows/system directory, Start it on the run line. If you
know the name of the file do a search and if you find the newer version go
to where the older version is and rename it and copy a copy of the newer
file over to where it should, where the older file was and see if that
helps. That is usually the easiest to do.

Just how do you access SFC on WinME since that feature is not included on any other OS other then Win98?

I'd love to know.

True you don't have SFC you have System File Protect (SFP) with ME. To replace a file on ME go to Start.....Run...(type) Msconfig....click Okay and on the General Tab click on >extract>

This is a Windows ME discussion group, so it is presumed any message posted is about Windows ME. It's not your fault. You just got an inaccurate answer. No big deal.

As RoseSong mentioned, click Start, Click Run, type MSCONFIG (hit enter), click the button "EXTRACT FILE" and type in the name of the file you want to extract and click NEXT. Then type in the location of your WinMe CD, and in the next window type in the location of where you want to place that extracted file.

It should be that easy. If you don't know which files you are missing, you could simply install Windows ME on top of itself. You won't lose any data or programs, but it will replace or add necessary files as needed.
