Well, I must have bashed in my forehead trying to get into the hangar in
level 1, till Tuncer told me it's not possible. BUT, I did find some other
interesting inaccessible places to get into, and how to do it.

In the maze of tunnels, there are some slightly elevated tunnels that you
can't get into. DIRECTLY OPPOSITE the elevator block in the maze, there is
one such place: a ledge where an elevated tunnel begins that you cant get
up.
But if you go to that ledge, turn your back to it, aim the grenade
launcher at the floor, and fire it, the explosion propels you backward up
into this new tunnel (oh yeah, you can only do this after having completed
the demo once, where they restart you with all the equipment you got the
first time around.)

Up in this new space is a tiny room with 3 features:
1. An entrance to a lower tunnel that seems too tight to fit through
(anyone get through this? please post!) From the automap, it seems to lead
to that place where your map detects a colonist running around but you
cant quite see him.

2. A small gap in the floor leading south to another tunnel. RUN ACROSS
this gap and you'll make it. And here comes the interesting part: this
next tunnel leads south to another terminal being hacked by one of those
nasty compiler monsters. Blow him away, and you'll get to a terminal with
a screen full of gibberish. Some of the words are bold-faced; I assume
these are probably codes for sneaking around the game.

3. The tunnel continues, passing another inaccessible lower crawl (anyone
get thru there?) and ends at a door. This door opens out onto that really
big southernmost room, the one where you fall down into it, there are some
nasties, and then a control panel to open the north door in it. This new
door comes out directly opposite the one you're used to using; it's up on
the wall, and you fall down into the room the same way.

Well, try this and enjoy; best of all, that first grenade blast doesn't
seem to hurt you (this on easy level.)

OH AND ONE QUESTION: the automap also shows a special room on the east
wall of that big southernmost room, presumably accessible from the narrow
ledge you see. Anyone get into there? Or find any other exciting places?
Let all of us know!

No.. you can get there without the grenade. Approach the
elevator. To your right is a set of stairs that swings up and around the
way you came. Take this, and you come out just above the entry hall, at
90 degrees to it. The impossible corridor extends before you, but is
offset two squares to the right. Run forward, weave right then left in
mid-air. You can make it, believe it or not. Not that hard, either.

There is a dead end near the 'heal' station. (Up elevator, to
the left, around, shoot compiler, keep going, if memory serves.) Walk
into it; it drops. This gives you the 'napalm cannister' room. That's it.

One other thing. It is possible (I forget what tunnels to take)
to get to the OPPOSITE side of the jump-down-shoot-em-then-press-the-
switch-to-open-the-opposite-door room (which I hereby dub the Garbage
Compressor). I found you can run across, and make it to the other
landing on the opposite side.

All manner of running and jumping is possible in this game; to
tell the truth, the easter eggs bug the hell out of me because they're SO
HARD to get to.

Interesting post....

I'm not sure I'll go back and try 'till I get the release...just wasted a
couple hours on the demo..

I'm curious though, I don't remember seeing any compiler monsters....what
do they look like?

Secrets below. First I wanna respond to this post-- It brings up some
issues germane to the secrets.

I've got a better way. At the elevator, turn right. Turn right again so
you're facing the place where there is a ledge over the original path.
Run towards this, and in midair turn 45 degrees right so that you weave
around the corner. You'll be on the platform without having to fire a
grenade into yourself.

It looks to me (from the map on the first computer in the level) that the
only way to get to this place is by transporter; there are NO adjacent
passageways.

1. You don't need to run. 2. The terminal has some similarities with
the other terminal that displays gibberish. Maybe a connection could
lead to a teleporter to the colonist?

You don't need to. You can get to that passage from the other side by
proceeding down the main corridor of the... uh... labyrinth?

> OH AND ONE QUESTION: the automap also shows a special room on the east

Yes. Just figured this one out. Use your grenade launcher to blast
yourself BACKWARD from the door which you mentioned in #3, while running
backward. You will be blasted across the room onto the ledge on the
opposite wall. Follow the ledge around, and walk to the other ledge.
There's a gap, but if you run you can make it to the second ledge without
falling. You don't need to blast yourself across again. Proceed along
the ledge and hit tab at the appropriate wall (as indicated by Leela's
map). The room contains a .44 magazine, 2 things o' grenades, a napalm
cannister, and... an SSM MISSILE!

Now all we need is a launcher... Maybe the room with the colonist?

Yeehaw! This game *RULES*. Thank you, Bungie!

Thanks! Works great - wish I'd known about it sooner!

From 3. above, you aim yourself at the small green ledge across room.
Then take a run from 3. (which pointing the same direction at all times)
and you'll land on the green ledge. Just make sure you're pointing the
right direction at all times. Then walk around the ledge, jump to the
other one, then open the door. Goddies inside..

There is an adjacent passageway - look on your map.

There's a secret door behind which is the colonist. Use the map to find
the secret door - the hallway is the one with the stairs that you
mentioned jumping from.

p.s. you should be able to get to all the secret rooms on level 1 without
a grenade!

Actually, I get to it by going to the first elevator you encounter
in the maze, but don't go on it. There's a stairway to the right. Go on
it. Turn right. Jump across to the other side (way to the right) but you
can make it. Anyways, you jump across again. Kill that compiler. It's
pretty fun, but worthless, since it's really hard to kill the nasties from
there.
Go the other way. It's cool.

I don't think you need to use a grenade to go where you are describing.
Watch the the demo in "self-play" mode (just let it sit, and it will kick
in), and it will show you how to get to that complier.

Yes I got to that room!! It is an ammo supply room. There is a bunch of
grenade clips (5?), a napalm canister, and an SSM missle clip (x2). You
can get there by jumping over from the ledge that you described above (you
must open the door first).

I THINK I FOUND A NEW GUN, BUT I CAN'T GET TO IT!!!! AHHHG! It is on the
second level. You can see it by jumping from the elevator (the one that
takes you up to the switch to raise the stairs in that other room) towards
the far wall. There is a path that connects with the room behind that far
wall. I can see something, but I can't make the jump. BTW, if you fire a
grenade up there, an INVISIBLE COMPLIER will come after you!!!

GREAT JOB BUNGIE!!

Sorry to follow up to my own post. I realized that I could have been more
specific. It is in level 2. At the south east corner of the level there
is an "L" shaped corridor that is raised off of the ground. Up there is
the napalm gun, but be careful... There is two INVISIBLE COMPLIERS
guarding it. I got up there through the room just north of the corridor
by running along the ledge and "grenade-jumping". It took about ten tries
to get it just right. Good thing I found that ammo dump in level 1.

Once again, GREAT JOB BUNGIE!!!

Hope that helps,

Actually this is the way to go to get to the secret ammo room. After killing
the compiler, take the connecting corridor till you reach the door, run out
and left and you 'll land on the ledge. Open the second pannel. Ma-75, .44,
and a SSM clip!

The colonist is trapped inside an alcove. Heres the instructions to get
to him: Face that open elevator. Turn right, turn right again. Do not fall
off the ledge. Turn right, and hit tab, inside is the colonist. There is
no launcher inside. I also found an elevator that leads to the hanger
control room, nothing but a TOTZ canister inside. Has anyone else found
the terminal that spews garbage, but has text inside it? It has the
following cryptic message inside. I can't figure it out, maybe someone
else can. :

^^Fire and Brimstone Seven Riders of the Apocalypse Labyrinth of dreams
Armageddon Irregular Removal of Tissue Happenstance Conflagrate Condign
Binnacle of Spiritual Blistering^^

I know its symbolic of something, but I dont have to time to figure it
out. The labyrinth of dreams seems to be that air duct system. Seven
Riders; that might be how many aliens are somewhere, or something of the
like. I don't know, its a weird problem. I hope someone can figure it out.

I think it's significant that in both gibberish screens, if you look
closely, you'll see that a select number of the words and characters are
boldfaced. This might be the key to whatever the hell is going on.
Either that, or the hacker monsters are trying their hand at stream of

You can reach this ledge by walking off into space and turning around to
the left as you fall. You can literally walk yourself onto the ledge
around the corner. Normal physics do not apply in Marathon. :-)

I'm going to try my hand at this and give several possibilities.
Don't take these seriously. This is assuming that the terminal is trying
to give you some sort of hint in the game.

I gave some of the words a new meaning, and paraphrased it. I
put it together to make some sense out of it.

Hell-like doomish difficult maze. A terrible battle, (I skipped
removing tissue - it confuses me) in which it just so happens that one
side happened to have offensive casing for their navigation device, (it
confuses me too) but somehow that side deserved the bad casing, and this
happened to harden the warriors (maybe meaning that they got used to
piloting without navigational devices).

Put through the translator another time.

This is a difficult maze to get out of, and there was/is/will be
a terrible battle between two sides. One of the sides, fittingly, had
bad casing for their navigational systems. Fortunetly they learned to
navigate by the stars, and became warriors used to the perils of war.

Applying the current situation to this text.

This is a very difficult maze, I hope you know. Well, there's a
terrible battle between two sides right now, the humans and the aliens,
but one had bad casing for their navigational devices, which caused them
to lose function somehow. Anyhow, they deserved this. They eventually
became hardened warriors.

Assuming that "they" are the aliens, since it is _our_ computer.

This is a very difficult maze, I hope you know. Well, there's a
terrible battle between two sides right now, the humans and the aliens,
but the aliens have bad casing for their navigational devices. They
deserved this because they're not on our side. Unfortunetly, this helped
them become hardened warriors, and they will be less likely to surrender.

I dunno. This could be it, but you can never tell.
