Has anyone had any luck with Spanish schools on the North Coast of
Honduras, i.e., Trujillo or La Ceiba? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Michael

I just went to the Centro Internacional de Idiomas in La Ceiba (in July).
I registered through Amerispan (www.amerispan.com I think!). For $200/week
you get 4 hrs/day private tutor, homestay and 3 meals. You can also
register directly w/ the school--it's slightly cheaper.

The school has another site in Trujillo, which sounded really nice.
Trujillo is smaller and supposedly more charming than La Ceiba. The school
in La Ceiba is in downtown--but there's really almost nothing to do around
the city. Not a lot of charm. If you go, the school has connections to some
eco-tour type companies that will take you to Pico Bonito (don't miss it),
Cacao Lagoon, Garifuna villages, etc.

My teacher at the school was excellent and my conversation ability
improved immensely. You cannot be uptight and expect 1st world comforts
from either your homestay, the school or the city, but if you're a laid
back person you won't have any trouble. My homestay had a pvt bath with
shower--pretty cushy, actually. The school employees/director treated me
very well and were very concerned about student satisfaction.

There is another school in town, but I have no idea of the quality. They
offer pretty much the same deal, I think. For more info, get "Honduras
Tips" a free publication of the Honduras Tourist Commission. It's actually
decent (believe it or not) and the information is accurate.

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have via private email.
I have the phone # of school and other info, if you want it.

I apologize if this is a double post--I tried responding yesterday, but
haven't seen the post appear in the ng.

I was at the Centro Internacional de Idiomas in La Ceiba in July. I had an
excellent experience, including a homestay with a Honduran family.

The school has a location in Trujillo, also. There is another school
operating in La Ceiba. It's called Ixtalbanque (sp?)--but I only saw their
ads and do not know anything about them.

I booked through Amerispan, but you can book directly and save some (a
little) money. Please email if you would like the phone # and other info
that I have.
