Was the "in love" part a lie, or a pathetic attempt at sarcasm? Either
way, Ken seems to be more concerned with verbally abusing others than
*saving* anyone or anything.

Speaking of pathetic, you never did say why you couldn't post this
yourself. BTW, alt.borg-jed is a Usenet "Discussion" Group; we discuss

NEW THREAD: When Xians use the word "love" like this, what do they mean?
Is it a colloquialism of some sort? It certainly bears no relation to
the English word "love."

The way I see it there are three different possibilities.
(1) Deep down, this guy really does believe he is doing you a big favor by
maligning you and harassing you. He's hoping he'll shock you into thinking
about why you haven't accepted Jesus. He wants you to be saved and he is
actually well-meaning, even if he's a bit misinformed about the best ways to
go about such things. In a sense, he really does love you in that despite
the difficulty of explaining it, he is trying to do what he thinks is best
for you.
(2) This guy really IS as mean and nasty as he sounds, but he thinks that if
he signs a vile letter full of hate with the "Love in Christ," that makes it
all OK and God won't be mad at him for this. He's in for a surprise.
(3) He's a passive-aggressive type who is using the "love in Christ" as a
weapon. It gives him a feeling of satisfaction to say something like this,
because he thinks it proves his superiority over folks like you. (It's kind
of like standing up in Mass during the intentions and saying very loudly so
that your mother can hear you, "Please pray for my mother, and all those who
are suffering from emotional problems" after you've gotten in a big fight
with her over the fact that she overpoached your breakfast egg.)
I cannot say which of the three is the case. I do suggest that the nicest
thing to do would be to assume, in the absence of all evidence to the
contrary, that (1) is the closest to the truth. Then you might pity this
guy, but you won't necessarily harbor feelings of anger, superiority (however
how small) or anything else that could be harmful to yourself. I believe in
giving people the benefit of the doubt.
