Question about Random and Corwin

Hello all,

I recently reread Nine Princes in Amber and noticed something weird:

When Corwin first meets Random and saves him from the shadow people he
remembers that Random and he has the same parents (father and mother) which
is not true for most of the rest of them. But later on, I distinctly
remember that when he described his family to his friend - Random had a
different mother.

Is it just me or did something change between the first book and the rest of
the books?

It did... it's generally assumed that Zelazny changed his mind (or
forgot this part). If you want a more in-character explanation, you
could say that Corwin had trouble with his memory in the first case
and made a mistake.

There is another possiblity, Corwin's mother died giving birth
to Deirdre, perhaps Random's mom took over the job of raising Eric,
Corwin and Deirdre; either before or after she had Random. Just a thought.
