GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #176 (GOLQ176)

August is already in full swing, and to keep you busy during it, here
is the 176th installment of that fittingly august institution, the
Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz. There is no particular theme this time,
except that most of the songs are good.

If you do not have the official GOLQ Rules (a posted copy of the rules
should follow a posted copy of this quiz on most sites), you may read
them by pointing your web browser at:

http://TheWorld.com/~marc/golq/

There have been no changes to the general rules since the last quiz.

If you want GOLQs and their results and answers sent directly to you
by e-mail, send a message to golq-r...@TheWorld.com consisting only
of the word "subscribe" in the body, not the subject, of the message.

Best of luck to all entrants!

T. P. Uschanov

Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #176
Recordings #01-25 were from 1955 through 1969
Due 5:00 PM EDT (GMT - 4), Tuesday, September 4, 2001
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think of you
And things you do
Go 'round my head
The things you said
Like "I love only you"
#01)

If I had known right from the start
It would have been easy for us to part
But I had built my whoa-whole life on you
And then you told me we were through
Oh! Oh!
#02)

Someday, baby, you're gonna find
Nobody in the world's gonna give you lovin' as sweet as mine
#03)

Now if there's any good in me
I'll bring it out so that you might see
That I'm just another lonely man
Who wants to stop my sin and all over begin
#04)

I, I
Finally found what I'm looking for
Love, sweet love
Came 'round knockin' on my door
#05)

First we hop, yeah yeah yeah
Then we bop, yeah yeah yeah
Then we slop or rock 'n' roll
We'll do the stroll
#06)

When you're gone
I'm such a lonely man
When you're gone
My heart don't be but sad
#07)

Now all my fathers, they've gone down
True love, they've been without it
But all their daughters put me down
'Cause I don't think about it
#08)

It's tired and I'm getting late
I try to speak but I can't relate
The DJ says I need my rest
Like a storm-lost bird I can't find my nest
#09)

There are new dreams
Crowdin' out old realities
There's revolution
Sweepin' in like a fresh new breeze
Let the old world make believe
It's blind and deaf and dumb
#10)

The sound of your footsteps
Telling me that you're near
Your soft, gentle motion, baby
Brings out a need in me that no one can hear
#11)

You guys think girls are toys
And you're supposed to use them
So you cheat them, tell them lies
And now you're gonna abuse them
But girls are made to be loved
And this is plain to see
#12)

Come to my door, baby
Face is clean and shining black as night
My mother went to answer
You know that you looked so fine
#13)

She may not be the best lookin' woman I ever did see
Nor have the charms of the ladies of high society
#14)

Girl, how do you move your hips so fine
Girl, work it out right on time
Everybody's got the beat
Hey, look at me
#15)

Oh, won't you please come back
Without your precious love I can't go on
It's haunting me
I need you so much
#16)

I hardly ever thank the stars above
For sending me your very precious love
You never hear me say a prayer
Of thanks to someone way up there
Who gave me such a lucky break
#17)

You tell me no, then you tell me yes
You keep my mind a wreck
I'm not gonna ever rest
I'm gonna get you yet
#18)

A million little tears I've shed
Went through your heart and through your head
I would have bought the world for you
But now here's what I'm gonna do
#19)

Ain't nothing you've done been right
You stay out late at night
You know you do me wrong
So you can't be here alone
You might as well confess
'Cause you know I've done my best
#20)

Don't try and understand me, you never could do that
Ah, and in the end you'd wind up being hurt
I'm a man with too many problems
That keep pounding on my brain
#21)

It may be zero degrees
With the snow falling down
I've got warm and tender love
Just as long as he's around
#22)

I was afraid he'd come back some day
And I'd be the one to lose
I knew when you saw him you wouldn't ignore him
And he'd be the one you'd choose
#23)

Let's go, let's go, let's go, little sweetheart
Now that we can always be together
#24)

Every day I walk some lo-o-nely street
Searching for you to tell you "Come back to me"
People around me stop and stare
As if they know the hurt I bear
#25)

Tie-breakers:

Mother looked at me
She was a-peepin' through the window
The way she looked at me
Boy, I thought I was a sinner
#T1)

I thought you'd listen to my reasoning
But now I see you don't hear a thing
Try to make you see
How it's got to be
#T2)
