CBS bias against the Braves

Just to let you know from the start, I live in Atlanta and have
been a rabid Braves fan for years now (although it is somewhat
easier this year).

To start with, CBS sucks. They were in bed with the L.A. Dodgers
from the start and were as biased as they could possibly be against
the Braves. It's one thing to see some favortism when you watch a
Braves game on TBS, but quite another on a supposedly unbiased network
(CBS is amazingly slanted in other respects, also, (60 minutes, etc.),
so I guess I shouldn't be too suprised).

Then, when Norm Charleton got suspended for thowing at Soscia (sp?),
little Tommy "I'm fat again" Lasorda saw his season going away and
conned the NL commisioner Bill White into letting Charleton finish
the season "in the interest of competition." What a load of sh*t!

Then, after their favorite team got beaten in the NL West by the
Braves, CBS decided to be biased in favor of Pittsburgh. If an Atlanta
player made a leaping catch, it was "That ball almost got away from
him," but if a Pirate made a so-so catch, it was "What a great ball-
player." In the 8th inning of the final game, with the Braves leading
4-0, and John Smoltz absolutely dominating the Pirates hitters, that
pr*ck Jack Buck kept saying "Don't count this Pittsburgh team out."
But, in the 5th inning of World Series Game 1, the Twins were leading
by the same score of 4-0, Buck was saying "The Twins are trying to put
this one away." Go to hell, CBS.

Let me guess pal, are you a Dodger fan? Or Pirates? In any event,
I'll bet your team is not in the World Series.

What do the Braves have to do to prove that they are to be taken
seriously? Despite numerous bad calls (Justice DID tag third, Van Slyke
was OUT at 2nd in game 4) the Braves triumphed over the Pirates. At the
time of this posting, they are down 2-0 in the World Series, but one thing
that I have learned this season (and Pitt. did too) is NEVER count the
Braves out.

Also, the prick Hrbek DID pull Gant off of first, and if it were in the
final inning of the last game, Gant would have kicked his ass. I sure
would have.

All you armchair managers out there just keep in mind that if your team
is not the Twins, it's time to shut the hell up until next season.

GO BRAVES.

Other than calling Hrbek a "prick," I agree completely.

That was one of the 10 worst calls I've ever seen. Usually an umpire
can be excused for missing a bang-bang play, but this was not a close play.

Tommy Lasorda said it was a bad call. First time I've ever agreed with him.

I had to respond to all this from a "not-so-rabid" Braves fan. I'm not so
up-in-arms because I think there were just as many bad calls for the Braves
in the NLCS as against them (remember Gant getting picked off second?).
Hrbek's not a prick, although I called him one at the time. The ump is the
prick. Hrbek did a bad job of acting and the ump gave him the Academy Award.
Too bad for the boys from the South. Also, if your team is not the Twins,
jump on the Braves bandwagon, there's plenty of room!

>GO BRAVES.

Good phrase, that.

We got the guys who ripped off the tomohawk chop whining again. Maybe
you are spoilt by watchinh the Braves on a superstation which wouldn't have
broadcasted Braves games, had it owned another team. The Braves wouldn't have
had a chance to rebuild thge team with free agents, had it not been owned
by Ted Turner who took advantage of TBS being a national cable channel. The
thought that a part of my cable bill went to TBS made me sick.

Anyway, that's another issue. Did the guy who posted the message miss
Buck's constant praising of Avery? How about Tim McCarver criticising
Pittsburgh for the attendance at game7? If the praise went a bit more
Pittsburgh's way, it may be due to two factors:
Tim Mc Carver and Jack Buck Brroadcast for the MEts and Cardinals-2 East teams.
So they are more familiar with NL East players.

The Pirates have been a good team for 3 of the last 4 years. So they might
have paid more attention to them at the time.

Don't worry . You will soon listen to Skip Carrey and maybe even his
geekish son Chip CArrey will substitute for a while next fall. Or is
Chip the father and Skip the son? Aargh.. Who cares??

You sound a tad bit uptight. Maybe you could mellow out for just a second.
Take a deep breath. Now let it out. Good....

You'll have to pardon me, Rob, for posting at all, as I'm neither a Braves
fan nor a Twins fan. However, this puts me in perfect position to comment on
the bias of CBS. The word we should all be using isn't "bias", but rather
"icompetent." Am I wrong? Why it is "biased" to say, "what a great ball-play-
er"? If people don't agree with the announcers, their not going to change
their minds based on what you say was an easy catch. Sure, they have said lots
of ridiculous things, but IMHO, it has gone both ways.

Yes, I agree that Hrbek pulled Gant off the base. It's hard not to. But
how does the bad call imply that Hrbek is a prick? Hrbek didn't cheat. He
didn't break any rules. He tried to get Gant called out, and he did. That's
a heads up play if you ask me. I'd do it and so would you. There is no excuse
for the umpire's call, of course. If you're going to use the word prick, I
would use it on him.
