LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- Politicians, including
President Clinton, joined activists Saturday in
urging tougher hate-crime laws following a
vicious beating that left a gay college student near
death.
The 21-year-old University of Wyoming student
was found beaten, burned and tied to a
wooden fence last week. He was in critical
condition Saturday at a Fort Collins, Colo.,
hospital.
``This heinous crime deserves the condemnation
of all Americans,'' House Minority Leader
Richard Gephardt, D-Mo., said of the attack on
Matthew Shepard.
The alleged assailants, Russell Arthur
Henderson, 21, and Aaron James McKinney, 22, were
charged Friday with attempted first-degree
murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
Chastity Vera Pasley, 20, was charged with being
an accessory to the crime.
Kristen Leann Price, 18, was arrested for
investigation of being an accessory but had not been
charged.
Police said the two men lured Shepard from a
campus bar late Tuesday or early Wednesday by
telling him they were gay.
The three allegedly drove off in McKinney's
truck, where Shepard was beaten. Later, the
assailants tied him to the fence and beat him
some more, police said. The victim also was
pistol-whipped.
Authorities said the two men made anti-gay
remarks to the two women.
Gay-rights activists said the attack shows the
need for tougher hate-crime legislation, and
reveals a growing national level of intolerence.
``There is a climate right now of intolerance
that we believe is being fostered by religious
political organizations such as the Family
Research Council, Focus on the Family and the
Christian Coalition,'' said Kim I. Mills of the
Human Rights Campaign, the largest national
gay and lesbian political group.
She said the groups began an advertising
campaign Thursday ``with a message that basically
says there's something wrong with being gay and
that you should and can change your sexual
orientation,'' she said.
``They hear these messages and say, `I am going
to go out and beat up a fag because they are
bad.'''
President Clinton called the attack
``horrifying.'' He and Gephardt likened the beating to last
summer's racial killing of James Byrd in Texas,
and urged Congress to pass pending
hate-crimes legislation.
The Family Research Council, a conservative
Christian group in Washington that has lobbied
Congress to reject gay-rights legislation, also
condemned the attack.
``Violently attacking a person is
unconscionable, whatever the reason,'' said Robert H.
Knight, the group's director of cultural
studies.
But Knight said some gay rights activists are
exploiting the attack to promote hate-crime
legislation.
``Every crime is a `hate' crime,'' Knight said.
``Brutalizing a person is a reprehensible act,
regardless of the motivation or the group
affiliation of the victim.''

Albany County District Attorney Cal Rerucha charged two men with
attempted first-degree murder
Friday in the near fatal attack of 21-year-old Matthew Shepard.
The court fell silent as suspects Aaron James McKinney, Russel Arthur
Henderson and Chastity
Vera Pasley entered the over-crowded court room on the Friday before the
University of
Wyoming's Homecoming weekend. According to a press release from the
Albany County Sheriff's
office, Kristen Leann Price and Pasley have been charged with accessory
after the fact to attempted
first-degree murder.
Rerucha alleged in court papers that Shepard met McKinney and Henderson
at the Fireside Lounge
where McKinney and Henderson told Shepard that they were gay. McKinney
and Henderson left
the bar with Shepard and took him northeast of Laramie sometime between
the evening of Oct. 6
and the morning or Oct. 7, near the Sherman Hills sub-division where he
was tied to a fence, beaten
in the head with the butt of a 357-caliber Magnum, terrorized, robbed
and left for dead, the report
said.
"During the incident the victim was begging for his life," the report
said. The suspects allegedly left
the scene in order to burglarize Henderson's home.
According to the report, McKinney and Henderson took Shepard's "credit
card, wallet containing
cash, his shoes and other items, and obtained the victims address in
order to later burglarize his
home. Both the defendant and Mr. Henderson were later contacted by
officers at the Laramie Police
Department to observe inside the cab of their pickup a credit card and a
pair of black paten-leather
shoes belonging to the victim of Matthew Shepard. The victims wallet was
hidden in the home of
Aaron McKinney."
Both Henderson and McKinney were contacted by officers near the
intersection of Seventh and
Harney streets. Both suspects fled from police officers while officers
observed a 357-caliber
Magnum covered with blood in the back of McKinney's pickup, the report
said.
Rerucha alleged that the suspects told their girlfriends to provide an
alibi for their whereabouts. The
charges are as follows:
McKinney, 22, of 751 N. Fourth St., charged with
kidnapping,
aggravated robbery and attempted murder in the first
degree.
Henderson, 21, of 3443 Fort Sanders Drive, charged with
kidnapping,
aggravated robbery and attempted murder in the first
degree.
Pasley, 20, of 3443 Fort Sanders Drive, charged with
accessory after the
fact to attempted murder in the first degree.
Price, 18, of 751 N. Fourth, St., may be charged as a
juvenile for
accessory after the fact to attempted murder in the first
degree.
If convicted McKinney and Henderson could serve life in prison. The
penalty for kidnapping in
Wyoming is 20 years to life in prison. Aggravated robbery carries a
sentence between five to 25
years, while attempted first-degree murder carries a sentence of life in
prison.
Both McKinney and Henderson will be represented by the Albany County
Public Defenders office,
while Pasley will be defended by Attorney Mary Elizabeth Galvan.
Bail was set for McKinney and Henderson for $100,000 each. Bail for
Pasley was set for $30,000
cash.
A preliminary hearing for McKinney and Henderson is set for Tuesday,
Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. and the
preliminary hearing for Pasley was set for Thursday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m.
Shepard was found unconscious and tied to a fence one mile east of
Laramie Wednesday evening.
He was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital where he was unresponsive
and breathing support
was being provided. At press time he remains in critical condition with
severe head injuries, and he
remains on a ventilator. His parents, Dennis and Judy Shepard, are
traveling from Saudi Arabia,
and are due to arrive at Denver International Airport Friday evening.
At a press conference held at the court house steps, UW President Philip
Dubois expressed his
concern for the Shepard family.
"As a father I'm most saddened by this. You're always concerned about
the safety of your children.
And even in a great community like Laramie and a supportive environment
like our university
provides it's sad that these events occur. I think we will all join
together in trying to express our
support to the Shepard family and to express our commitment to an open
and diverse university
community," Dubois said.
It was reported that the suspects were university students, when in fact
Pasley was the only suspect
that was a student.
"I hope and I pray that this was an isolated event that was motivated by
whatever motivates those
individuals," Dubois said.
Jim Osborn, president of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual
Association (LGBTA) said, "This
incident comes to a great shock to the gay and lesbian community as well
as to the citizens in
Laramie. Matt is one of the most kind and caring individuals I know, and
our deepest sympathy
goes out to his friends and family. I do not want to turn Matt into a
martyr, I respect him too much
for that."
Dubois said that that a minute of silence during the football game on
Saturday will be observed as
well as a vigil to be held Sunday night, and a march during the
homecoming parade.
Following the press conference, a friend of Shepard's, Alex Trout, spoke
about his reaction to the
event. "I pray to God, everyone of them get the death penalty," Trout
said.

Since the previous medical update (at 3 p.m.
today), three new items of information have
been added to this web site. The items can be
summarized as the following:

update:
The following 9 p.m. October 10 medical
update was given by Rulon Stacey, President and
CEO of Poudre Valley Health System. This was
distributed to members of the media
present at the time at Poudre Valley Hospital
and will be FAXed to reporters as they call
until the next medical update is distributed
at about 9 a.m. October 11.
Since our last medical update at 3 p.m.
October 10, Matthew Shepard has remained in
critical condition.
Matthew is in the surgical-neuro intensive
care unit in our Regional Neuroscience Center
located within the hospital. He remains in
critical condition with severe head injuries.
Respiratory support continues to be provided.
He remains on a ventilator.
Matthew came to us on October 7 from Ivinson
Hospital in Laramie by way of ambulance.
He was admitted in critical condition at
approximately 9:15 p.m. October 7. When he
arrived, he was unresponsive and breathing
support was being provided.

The following is medical information from
Poudre Valley Hospital. It was released by
Rulon Stacey at the medical update at 3 p.m.
October 10.
Matthew零 major injuries upon arrival
consisted of hypothermia and a fracture from behind
his head to just in front of the right ear.
This has caused bleeding in the brain, as well as
pressure on the brain. There were also
approximately a dozen small lacerations around his
head, face and neck.
Matthew has a massive brain stem injury. The
brain stem controls vital signs, such as heart
beat, body temperature and other involuntary
functions.
Matthew零 temperature has fluctuated over the
last 24 hours, ranging from 98 to 106
degrees. We have had difficulty controlling
his temperature.
Hospital actions have included the surgeon
inserting an intraventicular drain into his brain to
relieve pressure by draining spinal fluid.
The drain remains in and functional.
We are also continuing to control Matthew零
temperature. He remains on a ventilator which
is assisting his breathing.

Matthew零 parents arrived at 7 p.m. October 9
and are now at his bed side. The parents and
other family members who are present strongly
request no interviews with the media and
they ask that their privacy is respected.
The following statement from the parents was
read to members of the media waiting outside
of the hospital at 6 p.m. October 10. The
parents chose not to read the statement, so it was
read by Rulon Stacey, president and CEO of
Poudre Valley Health System, at their request.
"First of all, we want to thank the American
public for their kind thoughts about Matthew
and their fond wishes for his speedy
recovery. We appreciate your prayers and good will,
and we know they are something Matthew would
appreciate, too.
"Matthew is a very special person, and
everyone can learn important lessons from his life.
All of us who know Matthew see him as he is,
a very kind and gentle soul. He is a strong
believer in humanity and human rights. He is
a trusting person who takes everybody at face
value and he does not see the bad side of
anyone.
"His one intolerance is when people don靖
accept others as they are. He has always strongly
felt that all people are the same𡅈egardless
of their sexual preference, race or religion.
"We know he believes that all of us are part
of the same family called Humanity, and each
and everyone of us should treat all people
with respect and dignity, and that each of us has
the right to live a full and rewarding life.
That is one lesson which we are very certain he
would share with you, if he could.
"Matthew also feels strongly about family. He
is a loving son, brother and grandson who
has made our own lives much richer and fuller
than what we would have experienced
without him.
"Matthew零 life has often been a struggle in
one way or another. He was born prematurely,
and he struggled to survive as an infant. He
is physically short in stature but we believe he
is a giant when it comes to respecting the
worth of others. We know that he thinks if he can
make one person零 life better in this world,
then he has succeeded. That is a measure of
success which Matthew has always pursued.
"Matthew very much enjoys the outdoors and
camping, and he has always loved acting in
the theatre㗝e started acting in community
theatre at the age of 5. Acting and the theatre arts
are skills at which Matthew excels.
"He knows he零 not the best athlete in the
world but he has a very competitive spirit. One
time he participated in the Wyoming State
Games. He had a respectable finish in a running
competition and then he decided to compete in
a swimming event. He did this even though
he knew he would likely finish last. Which he
did. Afterwards, he acknowledged to us that
he knew his chances of winning were far from
good but he wasn靖 going to let that stop him
from trying. That零 Matthew零 lesson for all
of us𤷫t零 lesson that we hope everyone takes
to heart.
"Matthew has traveled all over the world. He
speaks three languages: English, German and
Italian. He loves Europe, but he also loves
Laramie and the University of Wyoming. We
feel that, if he was giving this statement
himself, he would emphasize he does not want the
horrible actions of a few very disturbed
individuals to mar the fine reputations of Laramie or
the university.
"Finally, we would like to thank the
sheriff零 department of Albany County, Wyoming, and
Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins for
their very professional efforts on Matthew零
behalf.
"We also have a special request for the
members of the media. Matthew is very much in
need of his family at this time, and we ask
that you respect our privacy, as well as
Matthew零 so we can concentrate all of our
efforts, thoughts and love on our son.
"Thank you very much."

come into the hospital from people in Colorado
and around the nation who have extended
offers of donations and other support, such as
legal and counseling support. The parents
extend their very sincere thank you for these

Everyone who is gay needs put some pressure on The Gov. of The State
of Wyoming to make sure these guys get prosecuted as well as keeping the
heat on the local DA's office. It's sad that the local newspaper at
the college is playing down this story....Matt was gay and was brutally
beaten and left to die by some straight kids looking to rob him and beat
him because he was gay. Guess what folks the addresses of the bashers
are in the article. I am not telling anyone what to do but maybe it's
time that we should all get even. Please pray for Matthew everyone..Pray
that he stays alive and makes it out of critical condition and gets well
so he can lead a normal life again.

Three arrested after alleged attempted murder

Three Laramie residents are being held at the Albany County Detention
Center for alleged involvement in the
attempted murder of Matthew Shepard, 22.
According to a press release, bicyclists found Shepard unconscious at
about 6:22 p.m. Oct. 7. He was tied to a buck
fence about one mile northeast of Laramie near Snowy Mountain View Road.
Shepard was taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital and was then transported
to Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins,
Colo.
Laramie Police Chief Bill Ware said few details are available only 20
hours into the investigation.
Ware said Shepard was "suffering from severe trauma to his head and
torso." Shepard has not regained consciousness
and was listed in critical condition on Thursday.
Russell Arthur Henderson, 3443 Fort Sanders Dr., is charged with
attempted first-degree murder. Chastity Vera
Pasley, 20, 3443 Fort Sanders Dr., and Kristen Leann Price, 18, 751 N.
Fourth St., are being charged with
accessory after the fact-attempted first-degree murder, officials said
at the Thursday press conference.
Additional investigation and the execution of several search warrants
are still pending, the release said. More arrests
are expected. The LPD will work with the Albany County Sheriff¹s office
on the case.
Arraignments for the suspects are expected Friday. However, Albany
County Attorney Cal Rerucha said 48 hours is
allowed before arraignment, and the office wants to take as much time as
possible.
The Laramie Police Department is also investigating an incident of
aggravated assault that occurred around 1a.m. Oct.
7 near Seventh and Harney Streets. Officials say this incident may
provide leads for the attempted murder case.
Ware said the motive for the crime is still under investigation.

Laramie reeling from tragedy

The Chamber of Commerce
brochure advertises
the homicide rate in Laramie as 0.00.
The University of
Wyoming police have not arrested
anyone on its
10,000-student campus on a weapons charge
since 1995.
The gay student
organization meets with the university's
blessing in this
pleasant city of 26,000 people, where a sign
on the front door at
City Hall boasts, "Wyoming's home
town.''
So it was with a shared sense of disbelief that
students, university officials, civic leaders and
ordinary citizens grappled with the reality that
Wyoming's hometown had just been placed on the
national map as the site of what's being called a
vicious hate crime.
Two of its young men stand accused of kidnapping
Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-
old openly gay university student, roping him to
a fence outside of town and beating his skull in
with a pistol while he begged for his life. Two
of its young women, one a fellow University of
Wyoming student, stand accused of trying to help
their boyfriends conceal the attack.
"Obviously, I'm shocked,'' Albany County Judge
Robert A. Castor said. "Laramie usually is a
very quiet town. We don't have any violent crime.
No gang activity, very little drug activity. . . .
It's a nice little community to raise your
children in.''
Until the attack on Shepard, Ryan McCoy, 22, a
senior marketing student at the University of
Wyoming and a Laramie native, would have agreed
with the judge's description of Laramie.
But, sitting on a bench on the tree-filled
campus, McCoy said he's been forced to rethink his
perceptions of the town.
"It's sick and sad,'' he said. "And it's
surprisingly extreme for Laramie. It just proves we're not
living in a bubble.''

Inside Castor's little courtroom Friday was the
largest crowd he had ever seen at an initial
hearing in Laramie. Television cameras lined one
wall. Friends of Matthew Shepard, reporters
and curious citizens filled the chairs, knelt on
the carpet and spilled into the hallway outside.
Some were friends from the gay student group on
campus, and they viewed life in Laramie
through a different lens than the judge.
"People don't walk around in Laramie hand in
hand, if you're the same sex,'' said Melinda
Bader, a student who has lived here for 18 years.
Generally, "I would say they're ignorant. They
don't know,'' she said of her town's attitude
toward its gay community. "I think a lot of
people in Laramie still have the Mayberry mentality,
that people in Wyoming aren't gay.''
While university President Philip Dubois said
there have been "no reported incidents of this
kind'' in his 18 months on campus, Bader and a
friend said the chairman of their group, Jim
Osborn, recently fended off someone who
confronted him along fraternity row.
Osborn declined to talk about the incident. But
"my understanding is there have been other
assaults in town'' against students and other gay
residents, he said.
What Osborn found impossible to understand was
why anyone would want to kill Matthew
Shepard, a small, slight man who threatened
nobody.
"I don't think I've ever seen him without a smile
on his face,'' Osborn said. "He was one of the
nicest people. You could talk to him for two
minutes and he could brighten your day.''
He added that the community of Laramie has been
extremely supportive in the wake of the
attack. "At least that has been very
heartening,'' he said.
Some of that support was visible in the courtroom
Friday, in the form of Laramie citizens - gay
and straight - who came to show their disgust
over the brutal beating.
"We're appalled and shocked and we want to see
what kind of people do this to other people,''
said Sue Sullivan, whose house in the Sherman
Hills subdivision is about a mile from the old
fence where Shepard was found barely alive
Wednesday evening.
The brutal beating brought renewed calls from gay
activists for passage of an anti-hate crime law
in Wyoming.
"Is this what it takes for a wake-up call?''
asked Terry L. Summers, a former Laramie resident
who now directs the Lambda Community Center in
Fort Collins.
"You would have never thought in Laramie - it's a
pretty gentle town - that this would happen,''
he said. "This is the worst incident I've ever
seen.''
Aaron James McKinney, 22, and Russell Arthur
Henderson, 21, are in jail on $100,000 bail.
They are suspected of luring Shepard into a
pickup truck after he confided to them at the Fireside
bar in Laramie that he was gay.
The charges against them, read in court by Judge
Castor, allege they drove Shepard to a remote
area outside of town, beating him with a .357
Magnum pistol along the way, then tied him to a
fence, robbed him, tortured him, beat his skull
with the butt of a pistol "while he was begging
for his life'' - and left him to die.
Their girlfriends, Chastity Pasley, 20, and
Kristen Price, 18, are accused of giving false alibis
for the suspected assailants. Laramie has a
cowboy history, remembered in its restored
Wyoming Territorial Prison and celebrated in its
annual Jubilee Days.
Before the attack on Shepard, it also was
regarded as a liberal outpost in a conservative state, a
home of backpackers, bicycle riders and
wilderness lovers where half the city either attends the
university or works there.
Last week, the university led an effort to
reunite the community in the face of the horrifying
attack.
With the leader of the gay campus group at his
side, the university President Dubois condemned
the attack and offered his prayers for Shepard's
family. Jesus Rios, the student body president,
announced that a banner bearing Shepard's name
would be added to the university's
homecoming parade. The Rev. Roger Schmidt
announced plans for a 7 p.m. vigil today at the
Catholic student center.

This Friday evening, Matthew's family members spent the entire evening
with
him at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. His parents
arrived
from overseas, and were at his bedside for five hours this evening.
An inside source says the prognosis for survival is not good,
considering the
extensive damage, and the 20+ hours he spent exposed in the field. He
has
burns over his entire body from cigarettes and lighters, and his skull
was
collapsed into his brain. He was severely beaten and then mounted,
cruxifiction style, on a wooden fence and left for dead. Matthew manages
to
miraculously survive, the brain damage is irreparable.
Please remember Matthew and his family in your thoughts or prayers, and
please
tell everyone you know and care about the news of this rally to show our
determination to put an end to hate crimes, and to pass the Federal Hate
Crimes Bill that Congress is still stalling on.

Gay Man Attacked In Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- A gay University of Wyoming student was beaten,
burned
and tied to a wooden ranch fence like a scarecrow until a passerby found
him a
half-day later, near death.
Police arrested two men and two women. Police Cmdr. Dave O'Malley said
that
robbery was the chief motive but that the victim was chosen in part
because he
is gay and that the defendants made anti-gay remarks after the attack.
The victim, Matthew Shepard, 22, told friends he had suffered two other
beatings recently that he attributed to his open homosexuality.
Some fellow students said they had no doubt the latest beating was also
a hate
crime.
``That has to do with the fact this is a cowboy place. People aren't
exposed
to it. They're too close-minded,'' said Alicia Alexander, a college
sophomore.
Shepard was found Wednesday evening by a man on a bicycle who at first
thought
he was a scarecrow or a dummy because of how he was tied to the fence.
He was unconscious, and his skull had been smashed with a handgun. He
also
appeared to have suffered burns on his body and cuts on his head and
face. The
temperature had dropped into the low 30s during the more than 12 hours
Shepard
was left outside.
He was in critical condition Friday on a respirator at Poudre Valley
Hospital
in Fort Collins, Colo.
``He's a small person with a big heart, mind and soul that someone tried
to
beat out of him,'' said his uncle, R.W. Eaton. ``Right now, he's in
God's
hands.''
Russel Arthur Henderson, 21, and Aaron McKinney, whose age was not
immediately
available, were charged Friday with attempted murder, kidnapping and
robbery.
They were ordered held on $100,000 cash bond.
Chasity Vera Pasley, 20, a student, waived her arraignment and was
ordered
held on $30,000 cash bond on accessory charges. Kristen Leann Price, 18,
was
expected to be charged as an accessory next week.
Police accused the two men of luring the victim from the Fireside bar, a
campus hangout, by telling him they were gay.
O'Malley said the three drove off in McKinney's truck late Tuesday or
early
Wednesday. He said the two men beat Shepard in the truck, then beat him
some
more after tying him to the fence about a mile outside Laramie. They
took his
wallet and shoes, O'Malley said.
Later, the two young women helped the men dump their bloody clothing,
O'Malley
said. He said the two men made anti-gay remarks to the two women, who
told
police about the crime.
Laramie, with a population of 27,000, is a Western-tinged college town
about
50 miles west of Cheyenne, Wyoming's capital. It is nestled in a valley
between the Snowy Range Mountains and the Laramie Range, and its
downtown is
dotted by small restaurants and shops selling crafts and Western wear.
Shepard spent some of his time growing up in Casper but studied around
the
world and had recently lived in Denver. His parents live in Saudi
Arabia,
where his father works as an oil rig safety inspector. They were on
their way
to Fort Collins.
``It's really hard to be gay and live in Wyoming because of the
good-ol'-boy
network. It's such a conservative state,'' said Kete Blonigen, a college
junior. ``I'm almost afraid and expecting someone to say, `He was gay.
What
does it matter?' I can totally see that happening.''
Efforts to pass hate-crime legislation in Wyoming have failed repeatedly
because critics have said it would give homosexuals special rights. In
the
past three years, Wyoming lawmakers also have unsuccessfully tried to
pass
legislation banning same-sex marriages.
``More rural states are known for having a less tolerant, more
aggressively
hateful political structure and social structure,'' said Lester
Olmstead-Rose,
executive director of Community United Against Violence, a gay rights
group in
San Francisco. ``If there's a feeling that you can get away with it, you
might
just try.''
He said that as a result, many gay people flee rural and suburban areas
and
move to cities, even though the level of anti-gay violence is high even
in New
York, San Francisco and other metropolitan areas.
O'Malley, a 25-year veteran of the police force, said there had been a
few
hate crimes over the years, ``but nothing anywhere near this.''

WASHINGTON, DC---October 9, 1998--- The National Gay and
Lesbian Task Force condemned Tuesday1s gay bashing in Laramie,
Wyoming where a student was severely burned, beaten, and left
to die. The Task Force linked the violence to an increased
climate of anti-gay hostility and political attacks in nearby
Fort Collins, the Wyoming legislature, and in the US Congress.
"Anti-gay rhetoric and anti-gay violence go hand-in-hand," said
Tracey Conaty, NGLTF communications director. "The right wing
is creating the most hostile atmospheres for GLBT people in recent
memory. Hate violence is a logical extension of these rhetorical,
legislative, and electoral attacks, " she added.
Matthew Shepard, a 22-year-old political science student at the
University of Wyoming, was found tied to a fence the day after
having been left to die by his assailants. He had burns on his entire
body and had been beaten so severely with a blunt object that his
skull was crushed. He is on a respirator at a nearby hospital in
Fort Collins, CO. Shepard had been beaten recently and attributed
the attack to his sexual orientation. In that attack, he suffered a
broken jaw.
The Task Force charges that right wing groups have fostered a
climate conducive to such violence. This week in Fort Collins,
Citizens for Constitutional Freedom, a right-wing opposition group
ran a series of ads denouncing the measures and urging voters not
to support "special rights" for homosexuals. A similar organization
sponsored a forum with an "ex-gay" spokesperson, which claimed sexual
orientation can be changed, and therefore does not deserve
inclusion in Fort Collins1 Human Rights Ordinance.
Right wing forces in Wyoming have stymied passage of a hate crimes
bill claiming it would give "special rights" to GLBT people.
Nationally, right-wing organizations have hypocritically portrayed
their anti-gay efforts as "compassionate and loving." In June,
Senate majority leader Trent Lott compared homosexuality to
kleptomania and sex addiction. Recent anti-gay measures in Congress
were introduced while right-wing groups launched a major advertising
campaign to "change" GLBT people. Just yesterday, these groups
announced a series of TV ads seeking to "reject homosexuality and
go on to live healthy normal lives."
The Task Force has documented a link between increases in anti-gay
violence and the escalation of anti-gay rhetoric during ballot
initiative campaigns. Immediately before Colorado1s Amendment 2
passed in 1992, Colorado activists documented a 129 percent increase
in anti-gay assaults. In the two months following the vote, nearly
40 percent of the annual total was reported. Hattie Mae Cohen, a
lesbian, and Brian Mock, a gay man, were killed when their home in
Oregon was firebombed during that state1s 1992 ballot battle. In Maine
in 1995, incidents of anti-gay violence jumped to 10 during the six
months of an anti-gay initiative campaign in 1995, compared to four
incidents for the entire previous year.
"When anti-gay rhetoric escalates, so does anti-gay violence. Hate
crimes are a result of that intolerance," continued Conaty. "No one
should condone violence against any group of people, nor should they
contribute to an atmosphere that fosters such intolerance and violence."
A bill languishing in Congress, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act,
would make hate violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
people and other minorities a federal crime. The Task Force urges
Congress to swiftly pass this measure.

Valley Hospital, at a press conference at
4:30 a.m. October 12 at the hospital.
At 12 midnight on Monday, October 12, Matthew
Shepard's blood pressure began to drop.
We immediately notified his family who were
already at the hospital.
At 12:53 a.m. Matthew Shepard died, his
family was at his bedside.
Summary:
Matthew arrived at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday,
October 7, in critical condition.
Matthew remained in critical condition during
his entire stay at Poudre Valley Hospital.
During his stay, efforts to improve his
condition proved to no avail.
Matthew died while on full life support
measures.
Funeral arrangements are pending, and we will
announce those arrangements on our
website as soon as they are available at

The family did release the following

crimes of violence cannot be tolerated in our country. In our shock and
grief one thing must remain clear, hate and prejudice are not American
values. The public outrage in Laramie and all across America today

what we heard at the White House Conference on Hate Crimes last year --
there is something we can do about this, Congress needs to pass our
tough
Hate Crimes Legislation. It can do so even before it adjourns and it
should do so.

I hate babies. Pushed in our faces in ever-increasing
numbers up and down the sidewalks of our queer neighborhoods
in cute little pink and blue strollers, they are symbols made
flesh of heterosexist arrogance. These subhuman breeders are
the real perverts, for using their own children as front-line
artillery in this war on same-sex lovers. Their disdain,
hatred and (sometimes) fear is written all over their monkey
faces. Perhaps they will think twice about "strolling" our
neighborhoods, once an outraged queer wrests a pudgy, howling
blob of protoplasm from its stroller and tosses it into a
mailbox for overnight delivery. (Or once a basher is bashed
back and roped to a tree in a queer area of a city park,
entrails spilled onto his lap with a sign on his chest:
"Homophobe".) Don't tell me that you, queer reader, do not
also entertain such thoughts of retribution from time to time.
The historical roots of modern homophobia lie in the
early Hebrews' need to propagate in order to outnumber their
tribal enemies. Thus it became a heinous sin for any male to
"spill seed" outside of a woman's "vessel". Same-sex love was
therefore incorporated by their religious leaders to be an
abomination in the eyes of God. (Christianity's emergence
carried forth this heterosexist supremacy into modern times
with a vengeance so cruel, that it can only be deemed a mass
insanity or psychosis.) Perhaps this extreme measure was a
necessary evil, as a matter of survival to a tribe threatened
with annihilation by enemies on every side. But that was
several thousand years ago, and now we live in a world far too
populated for its own well-being.
Perhaps it is time for God to reverse the ancient law of
homophobia and declare it a sin *not* to waste seed. Perhaps
we should no longer "turn the other cheek" (to use the
fundamentalists' own Christian terminology), but revert to the
ancient Mosaic law of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth"
(or in this case, a baby for a queer). Perhaps it is time for
a "New Passover"--only this one for queers--sacrificing the
hetero firstborn of every breeder as Yahweh's warning to give
us our freedom. Perhaps the act of "breeding" (without strict
social guidelines) should now be made a crime punishable by
death. Enforced spilling of seed anywhere except in a woman's
vessel may be the "necessary evil" to save us from global
disaster--and will put new meaning in the phrase "turn the
other cheek".
Remember, homophobic swine: you do not *make* a
baby--only genetics (read "God") can do that. Woman is just
the vessel. It is how you raise a child that counts...which
has nothing to do with whether one's parents are "natural" or
not. As a matter of fact, the current rise in child abuse
(and neglect) by heterosexist parents, is so alarming that
even a test tube would provide a safer haven to these hapless
offspring. It takes no brains to insert rod A into slot B,
which is the only reason you illiterate homophobic simians can
breed at all. And the only reason most of you breed your
brains out is to assure each other that you are not
homosexual--with your fleshly offspring as your "Good
Housekeeping Seal Of Approval" to parade before us queers in
our own neighborhoods. Stop screwing, and read a good book
for once in your life.

NEW DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

I hereby declare war against the United States
Government, and to all its people who support the federal
sanction against same-sex marriage... which may be a majority.
The moment government permits any state to officially and
intentionally deny a gay citizen's right to the pursuit of
happiness--as indeed marriage is a blissful goal--the door is
open to establishing all homophile women and men as second
class citizens in perpetuity.
I perceive this unconstitutional, ungodly sanction as the
first step towards eradicating all known homosexuals in our
sorry nation. The bombing of the Lesbian lounge in Atlanta is
just the beginning...unless the federal government and
mainstream Christian churches--including African-American
congregations--immediately step in and aggressively fight back
against the jihad these homophobes have declared. (I'm not
holding my breath.) Their continued silence and foot-dragging
on the noble issue of same-sex-lover rights, puts blood on
their hands as surely as if they were right-wing fanatics
themselves!
I urge all lesbians, gays, bisexuals, gender changers,
their supporters, and other so-called queer types to bear arms
and take to the streets...and push back the beast of
homophobia that now rears its ugly head in the eyes of the
majority, who prowl this gutted country like ghouls from The
Night Of The Living Dead. For all intent purposes, President
Clinton has nodded his head in approval of a nationwide witch
hunt to kill us anywhere and everywhere we are seen or known
to abide...or at best to deny us jobs, shelter, friendship,
and equal treatment. Our President's wavering on the "gays in
the military" issue, along with the signing of DOMA...places
him in direct responsibility for exacerbating the hostility
against a basically harmless, and decent, group of citizens:
gay women and men.
Likewise for our so-called "liberal" straight
friends...who are too cowardly to display a pink triangle on
their own clothing, or a T-shirt or bumper sticker
proclaiming: "Another Hetero for Lesbian & Gay Rights". Yet
they proudly wear slogans and icons promoting the rights of
African-Americans, women, children, trees, animals, and so on.
The Danes in World War II sported stars of David to conceal
Jewish folk from Nazis...but I hear of none who displayed the
pink triangle.
If you are heterosexual, and perceive yourself as a true
"progressive", then you would have no qualms in taking up this
noble banner of Homophile Liberation in the ways I have
suggested...else you, too, have blood on your hands. But if
heteros at large still refuse to see this as their fight,
too...we homosexuals can flood the straight bars, clubs, and
other hetero hangouts. Our presence, with pink triangles
emblazoned on our shirts and jackets, will turn these straight
clubs into targets of the Army of God and their ilk. Then, of
course, we'll have a lot more allies in the resistance--albeit
unwilling.
Be it known that I am God's Son. Be it known that I am
proudly homosexual, that I am a Christian who respects all
other beliefs as equal, that I presently go by the name
Ezekiel Krahlin (formerly Gene Catalano). Be it also known
that I propose the new label "Thracian" over "gay male," to
symbolize the new-found empowerment of the homophile community
in this century's closing decade. The word "gay" perpetuates
a stereotype of ourselves as flighty, emotional, and
frivolous...not to be taken seriously, as a citizen, as a
human being, or as anything else! (Surely, women have a
similar complaint against male chauvanists.)
"Lesbian" is a beautiful term for the homosexual female;
as its name comes from a Greek Island with a rich, classical
history. The region of Thrace also has a great history, and
likewise plays an honored role in Hellenic culture...hence I
coin the term "Thracian" for those who are commonly thought of
as "gay male". Ancient Greeks first called their northern
neighbors "Thracians," and later, "Macedonians"...the people
from whom arose Alexander The Great. "Hellenic" can be the
general term for both homophile women and men, who are sick of
the belittling and ineffectual descriptor, "gay". This caps a
nice balance on the other two Greek words, to form an elegant
triad: Hellenic, Lesbian, Thracian. It also does away with
the chauvanistic stance of using "Gay" to represent both male
and female members, as well as males only. (Credit for the
idea of "Hellenic" to replace "Gay" goes to Fireweaver, an
Internet friend.)
Heterosexism, chauvinism, misogyny, mysandry, homophobia,
pedophilia, racism, and bestiality are all blasphemies in God's
eyes, and in mine, and in the eyes of all good people. Under this
inspiration, I declare Northern California a safe haven, and
demand protection by the United Nations Global Peacekeepers. I
also call for the secession of this region, and its establishment as a
government solely for and by Hellenes...where all beliefs are to be
equally respected. Let this new nation be named "Athenia," to
honor woman's suffrage as well as symbolize wisdom and valor. As
a body politik, we are as the victorious David against Goliath: the
giant of homophobia shall be toppled and slain in our time.
Let it also be known that not every gay person is a
friend. Like any group of human beings, they have their ranks
of evil forces. True hearts are few and far between...love
and be constant to such friends--if indeed you have even
one--for you are well blessed. For wherever there are two
kindred hearts, there Your Angel will be also, in spirit. Do
not judge any person by any category (such as gay or hetero,
Jew or Christian, ugly or handsome, poor or rich, white or
black, etc.) But do judge her by what comes from the heart, as
expressed in words and deeds.
Civilization (for what it's worth) is about to go
berserk; the capitalist world as we know it is doomed. I
trust that those whom I can reach through this letter, already
are taking action. If you are wicked (homophobic), it is not
yet too late to change. I stand by you in prayer, and hope
you will join the valorous. For until the last enemy is fallen, it
is my duty to fight for every lost soul until the final moment.
Yes, I pray most ardently for the lost, not for the risen.
In closing, I humbly attempt to give solace to my
Hellenic sisters and brothers, with this quote from Psalm 35
(1-8):
Plead my cause, O Lord, with those who strive with me;
Fight against those who fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler,
And stand up for my help.

THE BLUE ROSE MILITIA (world's first *queer* militia)

Founded December 1, 1996 by Hellenic Rights activist
Ezekiel Krahlin (formerly Gene Catalano), The Blue Rose
Militia is a ParaNormalMilitary organization dedicated to the
defense of homosexual civil rights within the borders of the
United States Of America. It seeks to establish Northern
California as a safe haven for the homosexual populace and its
refugees...via new and inviolable federal and state laws, or
through secession and formation of a new nation. The Militia
is a loosely bound federation of community clusters throughout
the nation, whose leadership is entrusted to the inspiration
of each local group. This new alliance is born of outraged
response to President Clinton's signing of the notorious
"Defense Of Marriage Act."
The Blue Rose Militia encourages all Thracians and
Lesbians, their heterosexual supporters--and other
non-heterosexist types--to bear arms at all times, in order to
protect one's self and one's friends, from the outrageous
brutality of a homophobic populace. The Militia implores its
advocates to carry pepper spray as a minimal deterrent from
violent attacks...and supports the legal acquisition of more
serious arms for the sake of self defense.
While The Militia does encourage members and sympathizers
to bear arms, to a greater degree it supports the application
of creative genius to achieve its goals of homosexual
liberation.
To become a member: apply the emblem of a blue rose to a
camouflage jacket--wear this jacket for one full day--and you
become a member. This simple gesture indicates your sincerity
to help the cause of homosexual civil rights... and will link
your spirit to the telepathic network that is The Blue Rose
Militia. You will then--through dreams, ideas, or psychic
signals--receive inspirations to perform actions that further
Lesbian/Thracian liberation. You will also be showered with a
thousand blessings of gratitude by the angelic forces...but
that is merely frosting on the cake (or "wings on the
toaster," so to speak). Please note that if you do not
believe in angels or psychic forces, you are still welcome to
contribute your own actions to the cause. The Blue Rose
Militia respects all religions and world views--including
atheistic and agnostic perceptions--and will never reject
anyone on grounds of personal beliefs...except those that
preach malicious intent to harm others (such as Satanic,
terrorist, bible-thumping, pedophiliac, or hard drug cults).
Create your own blue rose patch on a circle of scrap
cloth two to three inches in diameter, and paint, draw, or
embroider the rose. (Or find a patch with a rose design, and
color the rose blue.) Attach to jacket with velcro or safety
pin. Or find an old political button--paint a blue rose over
the original design--and pin it on. Any other method to create
a blue rose logo is acceptable. The ideal design for the logo
is: a single sky-blue rose with lime-green stem and two
leaves, on a wine-red background. Blue stands for loyalty,
red for life force, and green for healing powers.
None of the inspirations you receive will violate your
own values and beliefs, or interfere in any significant way
with your vocation or personal relations...unless you
specifically desire to live out a more wild and free-spirited
adventure. Examples of inspired actions: financial donation
to a Hellene group, speaking out against a homophobic slur,
reading an informative book on homosexuality, freely copying
and distributing this Blue Rose Militia bulletin, reaching out
to a homosexual acquaintance, writing a letter to a newspaper,
wearing a homo-supportive T-shirt, calling a radio talk show,
participating in a pro-homosexual demonstration, attaching
pro-gay stickers to outgoing mail, or even starting or joining
an auxiliary Blue Rose Militia in your own neighborhood. You
may even have a special calling above and beyond the examples
herein...in such a case, let your conscience be your guide. I
give no further examples, in order that your inspiration may
remain unfettered, and your imagination soar!
The Blue Rose Militia places absolute trust into the
hands of anyone so inspired...and requires no report from any
member, or conferral, before he or she takes action. Should a
member choose to confer with another, that is fine...and for
that reason local groups may be formed and dissolved in
spontaneous fashion, without first consulting the founder or
its headquarters. Wear the blue rose logo anywhere on your
person, backpack, briefcase, or purse (camouflage jacket is
optional after the first time worn). In this manner, you will
meet other members who recognize the emblem.

BIRTH OF THE FINAL TESTAMENT

My web page is the beginning of a vision coming to
fulfillment. It will eventually be renamed "The Final
Testament" or "The Dyke/Faggot Bible". This good book will be
a vast compilation of original writings and graphics...by
anyone who cares to contribute to the positive awareness of
the homosexual spirit. No religious viewpoint will be barred,
including atheism, agnosticism, existentialism, and so on.
Eventually, it will be so large that many collaborators will
contribute one or two megabytes of their own web space, that
chapters may be linked together across the vast Internet
global exchange. The beautiful works contained therein will
shine with dignity, wisdom, and humor...and will touch the
hearts of all people, and slay the beast of homophobia for
once and for all. The vision that led to these realizations
started as a dream two years ago:
I was standing in a medieval monastery, in a room filled
with monks bending over their wooden benches in devoted
concentration to the creation of illuminated manuscript. It
was a most peaceful scene, with warm, golden sunlight passing
through latticed windows. Only the monks also possessed soft,
downy white wings...they were angels! One angel-monk who
stood beside me, nudged me in the direction of the benches,
and said, "Go, and see what they're writing!"
So I approached one of the seated monks and cautiously
peeked over his shoulder. Amid a border of brilliant
gold-leaf and richly colored illuminated manuscript, he was
scrolling this title across the page: "The Little Angel Who
Wouldn't Fly". I gasped and stepped back, said, "Why, that's
my story!"
The Monk looked up from his work and smiled: "Yes, they
are all your stories. You are to write the major part of what
is to become the last and Final Testament for all time."
And that was the end of this lovely dream-vision. Other
visions have shown Hellenic people around the world secretly
gathering my writing to put into this new Bible. And it
would, by then, include contributions by many other Lesbians
and Thracians...up to 70% of the entire contents. I was shown
how one morning I will walk by a bookstore and see this Bible
of my dreams on display, as if by magic...since I didn't have to
lift so much as one little finger to get it published! (Then I
saw another vision, within this vision: rippling across the
world like stacked dominoes, The Final Testament showcased in
every bookstore in every town, hamlet, city and village in the
world.)
Since then, I now realize that my web page is the birth
of this Final Testament...and already, I have two other
contributors besides myself. While I am obviously proud of my
accomplishments--including my future achievements--I am most
proud of being able to provide a space of recognition to those
who have gone without any pats on the back for their talents
and courage.
You take this in whatever way you so choose; I don't
care. But I do know my destiny is to play a major role in the
next series of victories on behalf of Hellenic Rights...via my
writings, art, and eventually, lectures. And many others will
also rise to recognition, like myself. It could even be
you...as I do not pass judgment on anyone.
My web page includes "The Little Angel Who Wouldn't Fly",
as well as other intriguing materials. I am honored to have
such inspirations, and to be able to contribute in such
positive and empowering ways on behalf of all same-sex lovers.
It is a shame that many of my own gay brethren still pick at
me in such mean-spirited manners. However, this will soon
end, as more and more people realize I am not deluded at
all...just incredibly gifted. And I have every intention of
using this gift to the maximum of my abilities...which
includes empowering anyone else, as often as possible, as soon
as possible. I do not see myself as the only one with this
growing awareness, this calling is happening to...and I expect
a wonderful network of kindred souls to rapidly connect via
the Internet at first, then in other ways.
P.S.: What better medium to convey illuminated manuscript,
than light itself, etched onto a computer screen!

Come to San Francisco, and I will personally honor you with a private
reading of some of my poems and documents from my latest work in
progress "The Faggot Bible" a.k.a. "The Final Testament". Most every
night from 10-midnight, I am on the corner of Castro and Market (at
Harvey Milk Plaza), offering to read from my bible, to anyone who'd
enjoy this. At no charge, of course...though I do private readings for
reasonable fees. (By the way: the Angels have made their presence
evident in San Francisco, and have started introducing themselves on
street corners. Most have lovely red hair...while the rest who don't
have hazel eyes. Miracles are upon us.)
I am probably the only real gay street entertainment in the
Castro...or most any gay neighborhood in Amerika. All the other street
entertainers are hetero, hetero, hetero. Even the gay bars: I walk by
'em, and what type of music do I inevitably hear each time? Hetero,
hetero, hetero. Where are our own street musicians, artists, and
poets? Am I the only one? I originally performed my "Anti-Preacher"
skit in The Castro, for one month straight in 1992...hoping to inspire
other gay talent to take their gifts to the street once in a while.
Are we really so elitist as a community, as to only provide
entertainment for those who have big bucks to spend? Why on earth do
we allow heteros to run our streets? Surely, many of us talented gay
men and women have a few hours a month, to bring our work to the
streets and sidewalks of our own neighborhoods, for Chrissake! It is
very sad to think that our community is so snobbish and right wing, as
to spurn, ridicule, and villify our own gay homeless and downtrodden!
For shame, for shame! Do not let me be the only free *gay
entertainment in our community's streets...come join me, in
solidarity, love, and civil dissent...come bring your song, your poem,
your story, your dance, your sculpture, your painting, your
photograph, your kung fu, your comedy, your acrobatics, your music,
your heart, mind and soul...come bring them to the light of day, where
truth may shine, and ring in the New Age...the Homosexual Rennaisance!

I am asking each of you to remember the family of Matt Shepard in your
prayers. Matt was an openly gay, University of Wyoming student who was
beaten and left for dead last week. He died this morning. He suffered
sub-freezing temperatures for 18 hours before he was discovered. What a
horrible death! My heart goes out to Matt's family and friends.
Hate is ugly, and when it raises its demonic head someone gets hurt, or even
worse as in the case. We must learn to accept those who are different from
us, and to love them unconditionally if we expect to be accepted ourselves.
Tolerance and acceptance come from God, and we must humble ourselves before
Him asking that He grant us these things, if it is his will.
It is hard for me to say this, but we must pray for the 2 boys who have been
charged with Matt's murder. We must pray that God forgive them, and forgive
their girlfriends who assisted the boys by hiding their crime and providing
an alibi.
There will be those too who claim to be men of God and will stand in their
pulpits next Sunday morning and say that this was God's will, and this was
punishment from God. I do not know their God, for my God is accepting and
generous with his unconditional love for me. We must also accept these
closed minded individuals, and pray for them as well.
In an ongoing memorial tribute to Matt, I wish all of us would take a moment
to begin each day by reading the prayer I have included. Its author was a
man who for several hundred years now has been rated as a saint. During his
life he suffered emotionally, and physically. When he came out of these
painful experiences, this prayer was his expression of what he could then,
see, feel, and wish to become. (paraphrases from Twelve Steps and Twelve
Traditions)

LARAMIE, Wyoming (CNN) -- While friends and family planned memorial
services for
Matthew Shepard, who was savagely beaten to death, new details emerged
about a second alleged attack by the same suspects -- who may face the
death penalty in the Shepard case.
Meantime, candlelight vigils and memorials were
held across the country in memory of the gay University of Wyoming
student. A funeral was planned for Saturday in Casper, Wyoming, where
Shepard was born.
Shepard, 21, died
at a Fort Collins, Colorado
hospital Monday after spending several days in a coma. His skull was so
badly fractured by the beating that doctors said they could not even
operate.
Shepard was found last Wednesday in
near-freezing temperatures, tied to a split-rail post outside Laramie.
Charges against Arthur Henderson, 21, and Aaron
James McKinney, 22, were upgraded on Tuesday to first-degree murder,
which carries a possible death sentence.
Two women described as girlfriends of the suspects -- Chasity Vera
Pasley, 20, and Krista Lean Price, 18 -- were being charged as
accessories to murder.
Police said robbery was the main motive for the attack but that Shepard
apparently was chosen in part because he was gay. Shepard had been
beaten twice in recent months, attacks he attributed to his
homosexuality.

Attacked teens blame Shepard suspects
Hours after Shepard was lured from a campus
hangout in Laramie, two Hispanic teen-agers
say they, too, were assaulted by Henderson and
McKinney, who ambushed them early Wednesday, cutting the scalp of one
before the other retaliated.
Police confirmed that Henderson and McKinney were involved in an
altercation with Emiliano Morales III, 19, and Jeremy Herrera, 18, both
of Laramie.
The teens said they were walking to a park just after midnight --
about an hour after investigator believe Shepard was assaulted -- when
two men suddenly appeared.
Both Morales and Herrera, who said they are not gay, did not hear any
anti-Hispanic or anti-gay slurs, only cussing and what Herrera called
"talking smack."
"Jeremy yelled, 'He's got a gun,' and he hit me
in the head," Morales said. "Jeremy ran up and
hit him with a stick and we took off."
Morales needed 21 staples to repair his scalp.
Police are investigating whether his injuries
were caused by the same gun used to
pistol-whip Shepard. A bloody gun was found
in McKinney's truck.
In related developments:
€ In Laramie, some University of Wyoming
students attended vigils and wore yellow and
green armbands to send a message of peace.
€ In Colorado, students rallied on Monday in
downtown Denver to remember Shepard and call for
stronger hate-crime legislation both in
Wyoming and nationwide.
€ University of Maryland students attending a
rally against a columnist who criticized gays in the
campus newspaper observed 30 seconds of silence
for Shepard.
€ In the Castro district of San Francisco, the
giant rainbow flag that symbolizes the gay
movement was lowered to half-staff.
€ About 200 students and friends of Shepard
gathered at University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill for a candlelight vigil Monday night.
Shepard lived in Raleigh, North Carolina, for about a
year before he moved to Wyoming a few months
ago.
€ In Los Angeles, local gay and lesbian leaders
declared Shepard a martyr to anti-gay hatred.

College float mocks homosexuals
In Fort Collins, Colorado State University is
investigating how a scarecrow that mocked
homosexuals appeared on a homecoming parade
float on Saturday while Shepard lay dying in a
nearby hospital. The scarecrow appeared on a
float sponsored by Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and
Alpha Chi Omega sorority in Saturday's parade.
Because the badly beaten Shepard had been
tethered to a fence, the bicyclists who found him said
at first they mistook him for a scarecrow.
Nicholas Haws, homecoming chairman for Pi Kappa
Alpha, said the scarecrow was supposed to
be in the uniform of Tulsa University's Golden
Hurricane, Colorado State's opponents in
Saturday's football game.
He said someone vandalized the float Friday
night, pinning a sign saying "I am Gay" and an
anti-gay epithet on the figure. He said the
scarecrow was removed but someone placed it back on
the float before Saturday's parade.
Nathan Stanley, president of the Fort Collins
chapter of the fraternity, said the appearance of the
scarecrow was inadvertent. "The fraternity does
not promote any kind of stuff like that," he said.
The sorority did not immediately comment.

to kill them. Homophobia seems awfully silly to me.
The "excuse" of being hit on by the victim and therefore being
embarressed is no excuse. If a plain Jane of a girl tried to hit on
him, would he kill her because she's too ugly for him and felt
embarressed in front of his friends? I don't think so.
As with most everything: it's the few bad apples that cast a dark light
on everyone. Anyone who ever turn a phrase against gays, race, age or
other such prejudices are removed from my life. People are people, life
is too short and people, regardless of sexual preference, race, age,
etc.. are what I live for and what I cherish.

Dear Governor,
I was shocked and saddened by the news on CBC-TV - the tragic
and senseless death of Matthew Shepard. A good and promising student
who had been the subject of viscous, hateful attacks only because he was
gay.
The United States of America shows good leadership in
international civil rights, but is sadly lacking in domestic Civil
Rights. Almost every western European democracy, and we here in Canada
have amended our laws to protect citizens from discrimination on the
basis of sexual orientation. In Canada we have a federal hate crimes
statute. Such laws grant no special rights or privileges, they protect
anyone with a sexual orientation -- ALL citizens.
What part of "ALL are created EQUAL" are Americans having
difficultly understanding? I urge you to amend your state laws so as to
ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, and to introduce
a hate crimes bill.
In light of this, one of but many such tragedies, it is the only
ethical and fair thing to do. It will advance the USA a step further
towards it's goal of equality for all, and serve as a fitting memorial
to Matthew Shepard.

Look at this from a different perspective, and see if this wouldn't stike you
as completely odious:
I live near Jasper, TX. Several months ago, a couple of white morons gave a
ride to black man who was hitchiking. Because he was black, and because the
men were indoctrinated with hatred while in prison, they decided to chain the
man to their bumper and drag him until he was dead. News reports said the man
broke into pieces on the highway.
Substitue the word "black" for "gay" and you have the same scenario.
So, Shepard made a pass at the men. True or not, I've had to endure passes
from people I wouldn't DREAM of sleeping with. This did not lead me to
pistol-whip, torture, and leave for dead the men making the passes. A simple
"No thank you" would do it for any civilized woman.
This is a hate crime, no if's and's or but's. If these men get any less than
life in prison, there is no justice in this country.
A question: just what motivates gay-bashing? Is it homophobia (and if so,
what motivates that?), insecurity (and does that have any link to homophobia?),
or hatred (and what could cause someone to hate someone whom they would never
sleep with to be moved to violence?).
I have my own ideas, but I'd like to hear the opinions of others.

agenda of hate in the name of Christ. Pat Robertson should blow his

In Australia such terrible attacks on gays have happened here too. Finally
just this week the governments here are talking about outlawing the
homosexual advance law, where cowards who have attacked gays have recieved
lighter sentences because they claim the gay person made a sexual advance,

universities and colege campus's in memory of the senseless killing
of University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard.
A Vigil was held in WDC Thursday night on the steps of the capitol
building.Ellen Degeneres and her mother and Girlfried Anne Hesch were in
DC. Other vigils were held across the nation including last night
where I was with about 250 people on the campus of Cornell University.
Nick Papatonis spoke and read his poem at Cornell University . There was
a long moment of silence after the candle lighting. Matthews life was an
inspiration to us. He did not deserve to die this way. Matthew you are
loved. Your death is affecting people world wide. Alot of people are
hurting.

I certainly wouldn't call those two "good looking". I seriously doubt 95% of
the viewers do, either. As for Matthew, he looked like a very nice young
man; the kind you would want your son to date.
At any rate, commenting on the physical attractiveness (or unattractiveness)
of the victim and the suspects diverts attention away from heartrending
tragedy of this incident. Was that the intended effect, or was it a bad

ADOPT THE HOMELESS

Dear Editor:
World class city? San Francisco? Homeless, vulnerable women
raped on a regular basis...gay street urchins viciously bashed
and abused...elderly vagrants tottering to their deaths in our
gutters and alleys. World class city, or world class sick
joke?
I am ashamed of my adopted city of 25 years, of my whole
country in fact: for this waste and torment of the less
fortunate members of our human family spreads from sea to
shining sea...and is completely inexcusable because it can be
easily resolved. Anyone who tells you it is a complex issue
difficult to cure, is either an outright liar, or hopelessly
deceived. (We are the only remaining western democracy without
universal health care, and a safety net to keep you housed
between jobs.) It is only the lack of compassion that keeps
the homeless homeless, and nothing else. Well, perhaps
something else: the sadistic pleasure of seeing our miserable
downtrodden wandering the dark streets like cockroaches, as
seen from a lofty penthouse twenty stories high. It gives some
affluent citizens a certain glow of pleasure and sense of
achievement; as perverted as that may be.
There is a gentlewoman in the Haight/Ashbury suffering a form
of palsy...she cannot walk except at awkward angles...and when
she falls, she cannot stand back up without the kind
assistance of strangers (if such is available; otherwise she
remains sprawled on the concrete). I understand she has been
taken advantage of at least several times, since she showed up
on our streets some months ago. You know what I mean:
men--very ugly men, but still men nonetheless--rape her at
their whim. (And I wouldn't be at all surprised if these "men"
have homes to go to.) One shudders to think this goes on all
the time throughout our nation...for it is highly unlikely
this devastated, sweet soul is the tragic exception. Why the
hell does this city, this country, even allow such people to
go homeless, foodless, and friendless?
On Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, I encountered another homeless
woman, elderly and of slight build, who keeps to herself,
communing with her imaginary friends (or perhaps her guardian
angel). Whenever I approach her to give a dollar and a kind
word, she leaps back in fear, as if I were about to do
violence. I wonder why that is? Could it be, perhaps, that the
American heterosexual male is such a dangerous and predatory
creature, as to cause such terror in women exposed to the
streets? I'm afraid this is the case, sad is it is...and being
a male myself (though gay), I am perceived as a threat, ipso
facto.
It is one thing to give no assistance to those on the streets
who seem fit in both body and mind...but to even permit the
obviously helpless to live in such pathetic and cruel
conditions is both heartless and unforgiveable. To whom should
the finger be pointed...or the hot potato passed? Where,
indeed, does the buck stop? If we really would like to join
the humane (as opposed to "human") race, and want to attain
the genuine status of "world class"...then I suggest we cease
acting like barbarians, and start adopting our less fortunate
street denizens, in any and all ways possible. Until we do the
right thing, the noble thing, we will remain, in truth, "no
class".
Surely, many of us have the money, if not the time, to provide
supplies of basic medicines, food, clothing, kind words of
support and encouragement, and even shelter to our worst off.
It is obvious our present charities aren't doing enough (well,
when you consider the recent abandonment of the Salvation Army
from San Francisco, over an issue of gay equality, one must
conclude that some charities are intentionally not doing
enough)...and perhaps we should look to our own selves for the
needed resources. Perhaps local community enclaves scattered
throughout the city can pool the materiel required to provide
the less fortunate with the constant care and respect that
will, eventually, liberate us into the status of humane-ity.
For I am not so worred about the spiritual state of our
disadvantaged...for they are clearly with God already; they
are His blessed children by default.
But I am worried, and quite intensely so, for the souls of
most of our citizens who live in affluence, thanks to their
own good fortune and connections. Do not for even a moment,
tell me those with homes and good jobs, have earned these
things through their labors alone...for that is a mean-
spirited, conceited attitude, as well as downright wrong.
There will always be a certain percentage of decent people who
fall through the cracks, so long as society, which has created
these cracks in the first place, maintains them. And, I assure
you, most people in the streets are decent. Of course, there
is always the occassional rotten apple...but they exist in all
classes of people, and this fact has nothing to do with being
homeless. It is my belief that a society is a doomed, which
does not make the well-being of all its citizens a top
priority.
How old is the Biblical story of Job? Two or three thousand
years? Yet have most of us applied the lesson taught by that
important book? Indeed, the moral in The Book Of Job is just
as timely today, as it was when first written many, many
centuries ago. Job suffered terrible misfortunes and
illnesses, which even his closest friends and relatives could
not explain away, unless (they concluded) he committed
grievous sins that God could see, but not humans...so they
villified him, and left him with neither friends and family,
nor a roof over his head. Eventually, however, Job was
vindicated as totally innocent...in fact, as one of the most
saintly people to ever exist! Thus, when we regard the
homeless as scum, we are treating them exactly like Job:
judging them with no qualification to do so. And in so doing,
we are guilty of a great sin: hubris.
Had I the provisions, that palsied woman mentioned above,
would already have a roof over her head, and help with other
needs. However, I am disabled myself, and live in a single,
small room...and cannot possibly provide for her needs. I can
only lend her a kind word out on the streets, and a dollar or
two from time to time. I have, however, adopted a homeless
person who is gay, like me...and who is not so bad off that
he, with some assistance and moral support, is likely to land
a job within a few weeks. His name is Tony...and like so many
people on the streets, he has a sweet nature and a strong
will, and is a hard worker to boot.
And herein is another issue I want to raise about the gay
community; at least those with decent homes and income. Where
is our outreach to our own lesbian and gay homeless? I see
very little of it...and what I do see is mostly packaged with
ulterior motives for sexual favors, with toxic substances such
as alcohol and hard drugs forced on these innocents (who are
peremptorally kicked out the next day, and left in the gutters
worse off than before). Surely, we who espouse "pride" in
ourselves and our community, for our gay heritage, can do a
lot better than the present sad situation.
But until such time, if ever, that more San Franciscans (and
Americans in general) do the right thing by our less fortunate
citizens, I will remain: ashamed to be gay, ashamed to be a
man, and ashamed to be a citizen of our unfair, undemocratic,
and (dare I say it) un-American, land.

Well, seeing as Billy boy signed DOMA, I don't see what relevance he
would have, towards furthering gay rights. In fact, his expression of
sympathy over Matthew Shepard's crucifixion, is only his shedding of
crocodile tears. Clinton is a right-wing plant, knowing that a
democrat would win the election...so they groomed Bill for this
position.
The enacting of DOMA paved the way for all the increase in virulent
gay bashing that has since occurred. Our President is solely

SEVEN LITMUS TESTS

So, you have straight friends--even family members,
perhaps--who are so very understanding and accepting of your
homosexuality. Or are they, really? Take a second look and
see how they stand up to the seven litmus tests I describe
herein:
1) Of course, if they accept your homosexuality, they are
most likely "liberals". And--being the good liberals they
are--they proudly wear T-shirts and decals proclaiming their
support of black people's rights, women's rights, ecological
causes, anti-nuclear slogans, et cetera. But where are their
T-shirts that say something like "Another hetero for gay
rights"? If your straight friends do not display pro-gay
icons on a regular basis--as they do for other causes--then
they are not truly supportive of your sexual civil rights.
Just as in the past, many white folks did not vocalize support
for black people from fear of being called "nigger
lovers"...many liberals are afraid of being labeled "faggot"
if they display support for gay rights. (Their loss, and your
holocaust.)
2) Your "progressive" hetero friends love to chew the fat
over political issues (see above)...yet they never seem to
come around to discussing the gay dilemma. Unless, of course,
you yourself interject that topic, with resulting token
responses by your "supportive" chums. But if you're silent, or
not there, homosexuality is never a part of their progressive
agenda. If they donate to liberal causes, have they ever
included a contribution to some lesbian or gay organization?
3) If your "loving" family members say they support you...how

intolerant society? Does any relative take the kindness to
recognize your humanity during Lesbian/ Gay Pride Week? (Or
do they all pretend they don't even know of its existence,
even when you remind them of the upcoming event each year?)
Has any one of them actually read a book about
homosexuality--just as they read about racism, Viet Nam,
etc.-- that they may better understand the issue? (Are there any
books in their homes about gay people...along with their books
on women's rights, racism, and other progressive topics?)
6) Are your "understanding" hetero buddies often
rationalizing society's homophobia with statements like:
"Well, heterosexuality is so deeply ingrained in our
culture...it will take some time yet for society to come
around." Though they would never dream of saying the same
thing for other issues of oppression; such as black people's
rights, child abuse, job discrimination towards females, etc.
(Yet those negative aspects are just as ingrained in our
society, as is hatred towards homosexuals.)
7) Do your relatives go all ga-ga over conventional "het"
weddings within the family...and pretend to never comprehend
why you might feel a little less eager to celebrate these
breeder unions, than they are? ("Oh, cousin Peggy, I'm so
happy you're getting married to the man of your dreams! I'll
dance with all the bridesmaid's and sing, and play piano, and
in general, be the life of the party. Then when it's all over,
I'll go back to my little queer closet, where I can brood to
my heart's content over never being able to celebrate a
marriage with the partner of my dreams, as you, privileged
hetero, can so freely do.")
Note: Would you consider refusing to attend hetero weddings
until the time when gays can also marry...and mail a written
declaration to this effect to your closer relatives? Or are
you a slave to your family's every demand...and/or afraid of
losing certain fringe benefits, such as paid college tuition,
generous birthday and graduation gifts, family business loans
and donations, and a sumptuous inheritance or two? If so,
then you must also bear some guilt for perpetuating
homophobia. Mama's boys just don't cut the mustard when it
comes to defending homosexual civil rights at the cost of
making their mothers happy.
Many of us live in delusion as to the assumed "stalwart
support" from our heterosexual kith and kin. So I hope the
examples above will wake up some of our sisters and brothers.
I must also point out that if you do have family members and
straight friends who pass these litmus tests, then you are a
lucky soul, indeed.
I am a Christian who believes that Jesus is homosexual, and
whose lover is of course, God. And it is also my belief that
Jesus had the homosexuality/family issue in mind, when He said
(Matthew 10:35-36):
For I have come to set a man against his father, a
daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes will
be those of his own household.
President Clinton's signing of the so-called "Defense Of
Marriage Act" is clearly this prophecy on the way to
fulfilling itself. Best prepare for the revolution about to
come, and beware of family and most of your hetero
buddies--for they may kill you with "friendly fire."

Dear Editor,
I have heard many folks in our gay community complain
about the excessive panhandling on Castro Street. I, too, am
tired of it (even though one of my best friends is
"houseless"). But what outrages me even more, are all these
political non-gay organizations inundating The Castro with
their booths, tables, donations, and petition requests. My
bone of contention is not against the good causes they
represent; but the fact that nowhere in their flyers do they
include any mention (whatsoever) of how their groups also
incorporate gay rights as part of their agenda. It sickens me
to think of these potentially homophobic organizations
draining the already- financially-overburdened and
medically/politically-endangered lesbian/gay community. If
they don't include a statement of unequivocal support for
their sisters and brothers of same-sex persuasion, then I
refuse to give them any money, signatures, or even the time of
day...and make it clear to them exactly why, before walking
off.
I must say, I have received interesting reactions from
these solicitors, when I say: "Before I consider helping your
cause, please show me a flyer stating how your organization
supports gay rights." The latest example happened on Sunday
(Feb. 25), at the "Uhuru House" table in front of Bank of
America (Castro & Market). I told the (white) woman that I
first wanted to see a flyer explaining how Uhuru House, an
organization for black people's rights, includes support for
black lesbians and gays. As expected, there was no such
flyer, nor did she convey any concern of Uhuru House for gay
rights, nor express any compassion on a personal level, for
lesbians and gays. I told her, "Now you go back to Uhuru
House, and have them design a leaflet in support of lesbians
and gays. When I see that flyer on your table, I'll give you
a big hug and a kiss, and ten dollars." Well, at that point,
she really flew off the handle, shouting me down with
accusations that I am anti-black.
Before departing, I managed to squeeze in one more point:
"This is a gay neighborhood. We are already stressed to the
max over AIDS, and fighting for our rights against powerful
homophobic forces. This includes a lot of gay blacks, who are
disenfranchised by their own black organizations. I resent
arrogant groups such as yours, who come into our community,
and further drain our resources without so much as a verbal
acknowledgment in support of homosexual rights." Again, she
screamed at me. "Well, I'm glad I made your day," I said, and
walked away. (Addendum: I was very pleased to discover that,
upon walking by Bank of America an hour later, the woman, the
table, the flyers: all gone. I wondered if, perhaps, my loud
voice may have encouraged other pedestrians to challenge her.)
I realize, of course, that many solicitors do not
represent organizations for "people's" rights...but address
other (equally important) issues of abuse and corruption; such
as ecological threats, endangered species, and big business
control. But is that supposed to mean that we, as lesbians
and gays, are "irrelevant" to such "non-people" issues?
Lesbians and gays have a great tradition of contributing to
all good causes (blacks, women, children, the poor, the
disabled, animals, trees, mother earth...etc., etc.). So I
urge all pro-lesbian/gay supporters to first take the time (as
I do) to question these solicitors regarding support of
lesbians and gays...before plunking down a donation, or
signing a petition. (In other words: "Read their beads."
Don't assume that a sweet smile means your lifestyle is
condoned.) You will be surprised at how much anti-gay hatred
spews from some of their mouths! Hopefully, a united effort
from the lesbian/gay community can eradicate homophobic
solicitors from our neighborhood, leaving behind only those
groups who actively defend rights of homosexuals, regardless
of which causes they represent. As far as I'm concerned,
they'd better put it on paper. Lip service doesn't cut the
mustard.

Quite a few of them have, and most of them (co-workers included) actively
support me as a gay man.

Let's see.... My mother introduces me as her "gay son", then gives
directions to the front door of her house for anyone who has a problem with
that. My boss, has been known to personally escort people out of the office
for any homophobic remarks (in or out of my presence) made within her
hearing. (Not bad for a good Catholic girl)

Now there is an acid test. My family tends to be somewhat cruel over any
death, gay or straight. Hard to tell.

Oh yeah. PFLAG, mother marches in the Gay Pride parades (even when I
don't), and both of my brothers talk to me quite freely (including asking me
to talk to their kids) about being gay.

Ehem. In my faith, handfasting (the Pagan equivelant to marriage) is
offered to same sex couples as readily as heterosexual couples. When I was
handfasted, my mother attended and actually helped plan the event. My (now)
deceased husband's parents performed the ceremony. Not bad for a group of
heterosexuals.

I would be less than honest or honorable if I said that I have not had my
share (and then some) of the rampant intolerance and hatred which has taken
so many lives. My heart is filled with the tears and cries for justice of
every man, woman and child who has or will be killed in the name of
homophobia, indifference or outright hatred. I would be remiss indeed if I
should say that I have not wished for some means by which we could be
protected from this murderous war. And yes, I do acknowledge that a war has
been declared, Ezekiel, but not by me. Not by gays and lesbians. Not by
transgendered, transsexual, or transvestite. But by the so-called
"moralists" who cannot bear the thought of allowing men and women to live
their lives with dignity.
Ezekiel, you declare war, but the war started long before you opened your
mouth, typed your declaration, or even were born. The war started so long
ago, that few people could even tell you when the first blows were felt.
I am an openly gay man. I am also openly pagan, openly kinky (leather,
BDSM), and most especially, openly appalled by the hostility and intolerance
of certain groups toward others. Now you have declared war and hatred of
heterosexuals. Not just the sowers of the seeds of homophobia, but against
all who have not actively (in your eyes) stood against it. I guess that
also includes me. Isn't there enough hatred in this world without our
adding to it. Ezekiel, I invite you to discuss this with me at your
convenience, that we may find some common ground. I do not wish to be in
your crossfire, nor do I wish to "take arms" against another in your war.

President and the Supreme Court to put an end to this nonsense by enacting
the Federal Hate Crimes Law, and taking out of the hands of the individual
states. I invite you all to write, phone and telegraph as many as you can
telling them that your votes are not given to those who will not respect,
protect and dignify all citizens of this nation, not just the heterosexuals.

The true battles in this war will not be fought with weapons of death, but

To everyone who has written to ask why I, a conservative (and yes, as hard
as it is becoming I do still--for now at least--consider myself to be a
traditional conservative) support expansion of the EXISTING federal hate
crimes law, I submit the following. I am not a lawyer, not am I a legal
scholar, but this is my understanding of the reasons for and impact of
this legislation.
Including sexuality-based crimes under the EXISTING federal hate crimes
law will allow federal law enforcement agencies to become involved in the
investigation and prosecution of sexuality-based crimes when local
authorities do not act with the diligence and determination exhibited by
police officials and prosecutors in Laramie. And yes, the law does
provided for enhanced penalties for those found guilty of hate crimes. In
cases like that of Matthew Shepardąs murder the enhancement function would
clearly be symbolic, but in many, many more cases, enhancement may well
make the penalty more closely suit the severity of the crime and its
impact on the victim.
I believe there is a fundamental difference between a crime, particularly
a crime of violence, committed against a randomly selected victim and a
crime committed against a victim who was chosen in large part because of
who or what he or she is. Such crimes---particularly crimes of
violence--committed against individuals because of their race, religion,
ethnic origin, gender or sexuality (I would add because of their political
beliefs to this list) strike at the very essence of what we as a nation
are supposed to stand for. That makes them so egregious as to warrant
additional protections not only for the victims, but for our way of life.
In summation I will add that if pre-Nazi Germany had and enforced such a
law--not a law against free thought or the expression of ideas, a law
against acting on hateful beliefs--history would be very much different
than it is today.

The last part of your statement is very disturbing. You may be right. For
what they did, they probably don't deserve compassion. But when you come
right down to it, it's not really about what they deserve is it? It's about
us and how we react to it. If there's one thing that Matthew Shepard's
brutal murder underscores, it's the need for compassion, understanding and -
at the very least - tolerance. If we can't demonstrate it, how can we
expect others to demonstrate it towards us?
Don't misunderstand me. I believe that both of these boys need to be
punished for their crimes - and so does anyone else who strikes out in hate
at another human being. However, when that punishment is levied, it must be
done so out of a sense of justice - not vengeance. We need to understand
that we can't fix hatred by perpetuating it. If we, like those two boys,
give in to our rage it will consume us and we'll be no better than they are.
The problem with the eye-for-an-eye mentality is always the same. You can't
act like a monster - even towards someone you consider to be one - without
becoming a monster yourself.
Please consider your words carefully. Hatred - or love and compassion -
start with what you say.

Judge John Martaugh, chief magistrate of the New York City Criminal Court

50% of suicides can be attributed to fags (10).
Dr. Daniel Capron, a practicing psychiatrist, says, "Homosexuality by
definition is not healthy and wholesome. The homosexual person, at best,
will be unhappier and more unfulfilled than the sexually normal person"

It takes approximately $300,000 to take care of each AIDS victim, so thanks
to the promiscuous lifestyle of fags, medical insurance rates have been

Fags were responsible for spreading AIDS in the United States, and then
raised up violent groups like Act Up and Ground Zero to complain about it.

Fags account for a disproportionate number of hepatitis cases: 70-80% in San

States, which, assuming fags make up 2% of the population, means that 1 in

Because fags can't reproduce naturally, they resort to recruiting children.

RECRUIT" in their fag parades. A group called the "Lesbian Avengers" prides
itself on trying to recruit young girls. They print "WE RECRUIT" on their
literature. Some other fags aren't as overt about this, but rather try to
infiltrate society and get into positions where they will have access to the
malleable minds of young children (e.g., the clergy, teachers, Boy Scout

The fag agenda.
The fag agenda includes desensitizing the public: "The first order of
business is desensitization of the American public concerning gays and gay
rights.....To desensitize the public is to help it view homosexuality with
indifference instead of with keen emotion. Ideally, we would have straights
register differences in sexual preferences the way they register different
tastes for ice cream or sports games....At least in the beginning, we are
seeking public desensitization and nothing more. We do not need and cannot
expect a full 'appreciation' or 'understanding' of homosexuality from the
average American. You can forget about trying to persuade the masses that
homosexuality is a good thing. But if only you can get them to think that it
is just another thing...then your battle for legal and social rights is
virtually won" (25).
Part of the fag agenda is to get the public to affirm their filthy
lifestyle, as one fag admitted in the October 1987 fag rally on Washington:
"We are no longer seeking just a right to privacy and a protection from
wrong. We also have a right -- as heterosexual Americans already have -- to
see government and society affirm our lives" (27).
Part of the fag agenda is to turn people from Christianity: "The teaching
that only male-female sexual activity within the bounds and constraints of
marriage is the only acceptable form should be reason enough for any
homosexual to denounce the Christian religion" (1).
Fags knowingly lied (and still lie) about the 10% figure (i.e., fags make up
10% of the population). As Tom Stoddard (formerly of the Lambda Legal
Defense Fund) said, "We used that figure when most gay people were entirely
hidden to try to create an impression of our numerousness" (17).

The Kinsey study of 1948, which fags often cite to say that 10% of the
population is homosexual, actually says that only 4% of the population is
EXCLUSIVELY homosexual. This study involved a disproportionate number of
people who had been in jail for sex crimes (hardly a random sample of the
population). Kinsey also did perverse studies involving young boys and

Current research shows that the true percentage of fags is in the 1-2% range
(15,23,26,28). Consider how small this number is when compared to most of
the numbers above.
Fags aren't discriminated against in employment, so why should they be a
protected class?
The average yearly income of a fag is $55,430.00 (most of which is
disposable because no children to take care of!). The average of the general
population is $32,144.00. The average of blacks is $12,166.00 (24).
59.6% of fags are college graduates. 18.0% of the general population are
college graduates (24). Too bad they aren't smart enough to listen to God.
"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:22).
49.0% of fags hold professional/managerial positions. 15.9% of the general
population hold such positions (24). Where's the job discrimination?
Sexual Orientation
A phrase that has come up recently in this earth is "sexual orientation."
This is a phrase made up by fags to try to make themselves look less filthy
than they really are. The purpose of the phrase is to take the spotlight
from what these perverts do, and put it on the notion that they are just poo
r, mistreated people, who simply are attracted to members of the same sex -
as if they aren't engaging in activity forbidden by God Almighty. "Sexual
orientation," as used today, has nothing to do with sexual activity (yeah,
right), but only refers to who or what a particular person is attracted to.
If you think that people of other "sexual orientations" are just fine, let's
see what other "sexual orientations" you would necessarily have to accept as
wholesome and pure. If you're not going to discriminate based on "sexual
orientation", then you must not discriminate against any of the following.
If you discriminate against any of these, you're a hypocrite. These "sexual
orientations" are generally known as "paraphilias", and are mental
disorders - just like homosexuality used to be (29).
Exhibitionism - involves people who are sexually aroused by the idea of
exposing their genitals to a stranger.
Fetishism - involves people who are sexually aroused by nonliving objects.
Frotteurism - involves people who are sexually aroused by the idea of
touching and rubbing against a nonconsenting person.
Pedophilia - involves people who are sexually attracted to prepubescent
children (usually 13 years or younger).
Sexual Masochism - involves people who are sexually aroused by being
"humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer."
Sexual Sadism - involves people who are sexually aroused by causing the
psychological or physical suffering of a victim (e.g., "restraint,
blindfolding, paddling, spanking, whipping, pinching, beating, burning,
electrical shocks, rape, cutting, stabbing, strangulation, torture,
mutilation, or killing").
Transvestic Fetishism - involves people who are sexually aroused by
cross-dressing.
Voyeurism - involves people who are sexually aroused by watching
unsuspecting strangers have sex.
Telephone Scatologia - involves people who are sexually aroused by making
obscene phone calls.
Necrophilia - involves people who are sexually attracted to corpses.
Partialism - involves people who are sexually attracted to exclusively one
part of the body.
Zoophilia - involves people who are sexually attracted to animals.
Coprophilia - involves people who are sexually aroused by feces.
Klismaphilia - involves people who are sexually aroused by enemas.
Urophilia - involves people who are sexually aroused by urine.

It is quite possible that the numbers are wrong. After all, in 1948 how
many people would truly admit to being gay? In fact, with hate-mongers like

What is wrong with these closet gay's trying to be straight? The most active
and vigilant gay bashers are gays themselves, just fighting their truer

Human compassion is what Jesus spoke of, not hatred, maiming or killing. Why

Gay and Lesbian is into relationships, love (not to be confused with sex),
and in general a peaceful co-existence with other human beings. A return to
the world when race and sex were not important, and nationality didn't
exist. It is the normal course to return to where we as humans came from.
This pre-occupation with sex is mainly a straight response to not having
dealt with the adolescent insecurity around it. Why is it, most every other
western society laughs at the US's puritan view on sex and sexuality?
Let's preach a little more compassion and understanding, rather than banter
about private lives that have no effect on anyone but the individual who is
