This year will be a bit different for me- my Sainted mother-in-law
left this world Monday night.
I really hate January.

You have my sympathy. Please pass my condolences to your good lady.

I'm with you. Has anybody kept in touch with Ellen? Last year she
was having troubles concerning the sale of the company. Wonder how
she's doing now?
Take care.

ps... unless I missed a bunch of postings to the contrary, it's been a
pretty good "self-preservation" year here on RCM and modeleng-list.
Boy, around the time t-nut left, there were four or five other good
guys went too. Hope 2004 doesn't beat 2003 that way!

Here's to teenut and all. I was brain storming this morning about
drilling through irregular rock and inaccessable areas and thought of
Peter? in Wis. flaming through granite. Anyone know how to do that and
what kind of support systems are needed? I'm sure his site is'nt
still up even if I could remember his name. What is the proccess

Grant I have to agree with the sentiment - although I think
that on the whole, this particular ng has an amazingly high
quotient of on topic posts, compared with the rest of usenet.
This may be partly due to folks like you who do object to
off topic stuff, and partly from the fact that what's
'on topic' here tends to be really, really diverse!
Anyway here's to Robert.

This sounds like a personal slam to me. To you I just yammer about
politics , don't post on topic , have no dignity , no pride, no
integrity , & no intelligence ? LOL ! Ok let's not hear another
thing about your boat ! You want a peice of me Grant ? Go for it ,
you can do better than the above. I'd like to know your view for sure
before I say what's on my mind.
If you where just looking for a place to spout off about off topic
stuff and how it ruins RCM then leave me out of it.
>I must have missed it too- I don't see a shred of politics anywhere.
Grant was just expressing a 'watchdog' sentiment, I think.
Teenut himself had been known to engage in some of the OT
threads I recall.

I found this on a website on making memorials:
Granite is cut from the "bed" of the quarry with a jet piercing machine
that produces a flame burning at approximately 3,000 degrees Farenheit.
This high-velocity flame, created by burning oxygen and fuel oil, is
directed at the granite to be removed, causing a continuous flaking action.
As the flame nozzle is moved up and down, a channel is created around large
sections in the quarry.
Was that the gadget you were thinking of? A web search for
"jet piercing granite" turned up a lot of hits...

Hi Brad, wasn't Peter using a wire saw to cut with? Anyway, it was
Peter Drumm.
As for Teenut, I'm going over to Spread Eagle to purchase six

Went thru Beecher the other day, stopped ay Mary's Place for lunch.

Yes, thanks. I can never come up with the right key words.
I've been eyeing a section of BLM land for solar trackers and they
will not like giving up relatively flat land , so I was thinking about
the mountain slopes. But, to get a drilling rig up to and stable on a
slope and go through unknown angles of rock would be very cost
prohibitive plus a small hole. If one could feed the noozzle with
hoses it would be easier to plunge a number of holes with minimal
support for each operation and a larger hole. Kinda like the wind
mills they have on mountain slopes with less cost per foundation.
I asked Pete about mining with it and he said it wasn't really for
blind holes. I would think the heat coming back at the nozzle would
burn itself up, but the idea is still intriguing.

I use to have an 800 beer can collection and drank 1/3 of them. I
couldn't tell you what the best is. All I know is that it has to be
cold or I won't drink it.

Hey Grant!
People come and go an a NG all the time- if you were to dig up the
original charter for RCM (I did), I'll bet you won't find anyone on it
who posts today (I couldn't).
Senority doesn't count for very much- one of the most prolific RCM
posters was Alt*v*z and OT seems to be a fact of RCM life (like, um,
Gunner).
If you're leaving- leave! No one will miss you (remember Mike II or
Mike Graham or Pete Albrecht or...).

You also should take a look at burning bars, as i understand they
can also be used to cut thru rock and concrete and they are fairly
cheap. The ones i have seen in a welding supply house are basicly
1/8" black iron water pipe with one end threaded to accept a ball valve that
controls the oxygen flow up to the burning end. They are very easy to use, you
just heat up the business end with a torch until
it gets white hot and then you open the oxygen valve and the bar
burns by its self once its started. The ones i seen were about
12 foot long and they fellow in the welding store told me they sell
them to foundry's. Might be worth trying on your project if you
can rig up a small one to experiment with.
Best Regards
Tom.

Well, a bunch of us liked to sit at the feet of a master machinist and
learn from him. Now he's gone and we do this -world wide- to honor his
memory. This NG is the best tool available to me to get the word out.
Imagine- people toasting your name all around the globe at the same

Kind of neat.

Well, Gunner's OT posts get under my skin at times, but now I ignore
98% of what he posts. No one's holding a gun to you're head and
forcing you to read any of it.

LOL. I remember that. I *wonder* who that might have been...

In which case -- what is the fallback solution? I presume that
