Hi,

I'm having problems with Samba 2.2.2 and 2.2.3a (thought it fixed my
specific problem) on Solaris 8 and Win2K Clients (haven't tested
others).

I can copy new files from Win2K to the Samba Share without problem.

I can delete files without problem.

I can copy over some existin gfiles (i.e. replacing file that already
exists on Samba share).

But there are SOME EXISTING files that I cannot copy over with new
version - I get the message above:

Cannot copy <file>: Access Denied. The source file may be in use.

Then the existing file gets replaced with a 0 byte file.

BUT (here's the weird thing) I CAN copy over these existing files when
I'm copying FROM a Samba directory to another Samba directory.

I thought the 2.2.3a patch described at www.samba.org described my
problem exactly, but alas, I still get the same errors.

Here is my (very basic) smb.conf file created with SWAT:

----------------8<-------------------

# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = TLS
server string = Tim Tam Upgrade Server
security = SERVER
password server = 10.141.80.61 <--- An NT server
os level = 33
dns proxy = No

[DTMBIN]
comment = Documentum BIN directory
path = /u01/app/documentum/product/4.2.6/bin
read only = No

----------------8<-------------------

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Adam

I am having exactly the same problem with my Mandrake Linux 8.2 box, which
is also running Samba 2.2.3a. I have reinstalled numerous times, using both
RPMs from Mandrake and compiling/installing it myself. Below is a copy of
my smb.conf.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone has to offer.

I too have a variation of the same problem. I've posted to the samba
mailing list at

http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-May/071928.html

You too can monitor if someone comes up with a solution.

Briefly - I have NT4 clients on a domain connecting to a non-domain
Linux server with a promiscuous share. The clients try to push files
onto the Linux server, and then I "access denied" with empty files
like you describe. I can too copy files between samba servers, and
from samba to nt, but not other way. (Being logged on from an NT4
workstation)

I upgraded from Red Hat 7 to 7.2, and then the problem manifested
itself. I've also removed the Red Hat samba distribution, and tried my
luck with 2.2.4 from samba.org. No change.
