Well I have finished my 6 months course on Loniten and that was all I
ever intended to do, with Dutasteride coming out in the New Year.
Unfortunately it hasn't come out yet but I am stopping Loniten.

My reasons are as follows:

After maybe a month on 10mg (all at once) Loniten I did shed a lot of
hair but in the next month it all grew back (I was taking 100mg Spiro
back then too). Then it maintained during the 3rd month. But during
the 4th and 5th month I noticed a lot of shedding with no stopping. So
after 5 months I upped my dosage to 15mg then finally to 25mg (only
for 2 weeks) and the fallout continued. So at the end of December I
stopped Loniten completely and just use 5% Minoxidil twice a day now
with Spiro 100mg, Finasteride 5mg, liposomal Spiro 2% with zinc and
Tricomin.

My crown has noticeably thinned a LOT and a month ago I could pull out
5 hairs at a time all over whereas I could never do that before
starting Loniten. I can't explain why I am getting all this shedding.
It could be synchronised shedding or it could be genetic and nothing
to do with Loniten, but somehow I doubt that. I think Loniten has
definitely caused it though and so I am stopping. I am going to
continue on 100mg Spiro and 5mg Finasteride daily until Dutasteride
then drop all them for Dutasteride 0.5mg daily which will be my only
oral pill.

The side-effects on Loniten were mainly water retention slightly and a
faster heartbeat. I also got quite bad palpitations after New Year and
had to go to the ER to have an ECG which showed nothing pathological,
just stimulant induced heart irregularity which was a combination of
stress and Loniten. Everything is fine now I have stopped.

I also noticed that Loniten thickens beard and eyebrow growth and
darkens arm hair which I can do without.

Since stopping Loniten, my shedding is definitely not as bad. I can't
pull out so many hairs any more although that could be coincidence. My
crown is still thin (it wasn't before) and it is thinner on top. But I
guess you can't lose that many hairs (I was losing 100s a day) without
it showing eventually, even if they do grow back.

I did notice that 'most' of the hairs that I was losing were thick and
quite dark, not like normal hairs you lose through MPB which makes me
think that this could be Minoxidil-induced shedding. If so then
staying on it may be the solution and the thick regrowth will come. I
am hoping some regrowth will come anyway seeing as the effects will
still be at the follicle for a few months to come even though I have
stopped and Minoxidil 5% will help keep the vessels vasolidated.

So that's my take on Loniten after giving it 6 months. I would not
recommend it simply because you can't stay on it forever and the
results can be very unpredictable. I would recommend using Lipoxidil
which absorbs very quickly and combining that with Spiro and
Finasteride and a copper peptide if you can afford it. As for Loniten,
give it a miss.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the update.

That's a lot of medication you're taking there. 5mg finast, Spiro
100mg..etc.

Are you not afraid of hyperandrogenicity or increased sensitivity of
your follicles to DHT? I've always speculated that the diminishing
returns on finasteride after 1 to 2 yrs in terms of hair count might
perhaps be due to one of the above reasons.

Good luck man and don't lose hope.

This is why people shouldnt take prescription drugs without knowing
all the side effects and understanding them.I'm not saying Pete didnt
but more caution should be used than I what I see people using.Just
because you can get something overseas without doctor prescription doesnt
mean the drug will be used judiciously.

For overseas prescriptions I favor a questionarre of sorts. It doesnt
have to be in doctor stumping detail either. But at least people should
have some basic idea of what they're getting into and what to expect
as far as side effects,dosages,etc.

I know its not your main point, by I notice you are on Spiro ....

I noticed something about Spironolactone, which I have also
tried. I think the same thing probably applies to Finnasteride,
when you first start it.

It breaks the natural shedding cycle *completely* and often I
suspected I was losing a lot more hair, but it never seemed
very clearly the case scalp appearance wise.

My experience and observing other that have used oral anti
androgens, is that about 2 to 3 months in there are periodic
sheds, which *never* happened before and I feel certain that
it is th natural cycle being broken.

If you started Spiro and Loniten at the same time, the interference
of their side effects is hard to track.

Sorry to hear that Lonitin bombed out for you, I was tempted
myself, but since I get water retention on Regaine, I figured it
wasn't a good idea.

Hi Pete,

I too was following a very similar program for about 2 years. Took
Prop, spiro, and loniten. Didnt have good results, but I think I had
to stop too early before I got any positive results. I unfortunately
havent been able to find or buy Loniten on the 'net for about a year
(I even heard a rumor it was discontinued?!). In addition, I havent
had spiro in about 6 mos because again, I cant find or buy it anywhere
on the 'net.

****** Where are you getting Loniten and Spiro?? *****

If you didn't get good results after 2 years then I doubt you will.

You can get Spiro and Loniten from www.lifestylepharmacy.com but you
would probably need to take 10mg Loniten and 100mg Spiro minimum
before you started getting results. I wouldn't recommend either
though, not worth the side-effects and health risks for any minimal
growth you may get.
