Halting system
md: stopping all md devices.
Power down.
general protection fault: f000
CPU: 0
EIP: 0050:[<000083da>]
EFLAGS: 00010086

Code: Bad EIP value
/etc/rc0.d/S01halt: line 1: 6526 Segmentation fault halt -i -d -p
It doesn't appear when shutdown -r now is performed only with -h. The BIOS
doesn't complain about defect memory modules.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like your apm kernel configuration might not be set properly for
your computer. Note that powerdown is not done when you reboot. You may
need to enable (or disable if enabled) the following in your kernel
configuration and recompile your kernel:
Use real mode APM BIOS call to power off
CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF
Use real mode APM BIOS calls to switch off the computer. This is
a work-around for a number of buggy BIOSes. Switch this option on if
your computer crashes instead of powering off properly.

Ok, I've turned off APM support in BIOS now and it no more crashes. I'll
keep your proposion in mind when recompiling my kernel.
