I have repeatedly had a problem using a search feature on any site.
Whenever I type in a word to search for, whether in a search engine
site or a website that has a search engine, the second I hit SEARCH
IE6 shuts down.

I do nt remember if the problem started when I installed Mcafee
Virusscan 6.0 or after the last IE 6 critical update, but it is
happening everytime. Google, Yahoo, AOL, Epilot, etc etc. It is a two
message sequence on crashing:

the first is EXPLORER: this program has performed an illegal function
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module FTAPP.DLL

The second is Internet Explorer:an error has occurred and IE will now
close

Any answers????

I have the same exact problem. It just started with 5.5 and it doesn it
with 6.0 now. If you get any answers let me know. I tried the I.E. repair
function but it didn't help. I can't search places like Amazon.com or
half.com either. Good luck.

I'm not sure whether FTAPP is a virus or a piece of spyware. Search the
McAfee site for it.

Also, get and run Ad-Aware:

Make sure that you also get the signature file.

FTAPP is referenced elsewhere -

<snip>
That's not IE 6.0 but some ad tracking software you've installed. See this webpage for help with that Trojan: http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99206&

Yes I found the ftapp.dll file to be the cause of my
problems. IE 6 constantly crashed when trying to perform
certain search functions.
If you have IMESH installed, this may be the culprit.
You may have to unistall IMESH and the ftapp.dll file
separately. Unistall IMESH first. IMESH keeps reinstalling
the ftapp.dll file if you don't unistall it first.
