You're asking the same question like ... what is the best car? What's best
for you is the obvious answer. But, like everyone else, I do have opinions
formed
over many years online, having used every imaginable browser, email client,
news client, etc. First of all, let me comment on Outlook Express as
recommended
by a couple of your respondents .. it is a so-so program much like the
email/news
portions of earlier Netscape browsers. It is slow, so slow. And, like many
other
Microsoft products, it is susceptible to being poisoned by malicious email
more easily
than newer Netscape versions.

My vote for email clients (in order of preference are) Netscape 4.79 or 6.2
My second choice is the classic Eudora freebie without ad supported. Hard to
find.
My third choice is shared equally by Foxmail or Calypso, an edge to Foxmail.

My first choice for news client is ... again Netscape 4.79 or 6.2
My second choice is News Express
My third choice is Pravda

For web browsers, again Netscape 4.79 or 6.2
My second choice is shared by Enigma or Internet Surfer - both good.
My third choice is Opera - but only because it is no memory hog. I do not like

their window layout, or the toolbar setup, but you can get used to it.

In no way, shape or form, would I ever, ever, ever, use a Microsoft product.
And,
not because of politics, but because they are memory hogs, they are slow, they
often
spy and call home, they crash regularly or cause other things to crash
regularly,
and I especially will never upgrade to ME, much less XP. From my inside point
of
view, I believe both products were hastily slapped together under panic
conditions,
and the public is paying for it. XP will fail miserably in the market. Keep
W98SE.
It is destined to go down into history as the last of nearly-reliable
operating systems,
such as DOS 6.22, C64, and Amiga. I'd put my money on Linux, and hope they
merge with Mac in a new thingie to emulate, but run rings around real Windows.

It'll happen, believe me.

I have tried all of them and OE is the only one~!!!! that give me what
I want in an email... yes the news sucks, is why I use Agent for
news.. but give me something that meets the task oe does and I'll see
about switching..
