Riding my bike to Daytona convinced me that I REALLY need some riding
leather.

One of my buddies bought Leather Chaps and is convinced that they are the
way to go. His reasoning is, if it gets warmer(which it tends to do in
Mississippi) you can always Shuck em and Store em in a Saddle Bag.

Still, I'm sort of leaning toward Leather Jeans. I think they would keep my
(UNIT) warm and safe, as well as my legs...I like that Idea.

Please give me some First Hand Feedback.

Just handled this same problem with a buddy at Bike Week. I've worn
leather jeans (over levi's) for years. I solved the problem of
getting them on & off by having a good leather worker sew zippers in
the outside seam of each leg.

My buddy looked all over Daytona for *good* chaps or jeans. Good
quality chaps are easier to find than jeans, but we found a great
solution at the swap meet. Fox Creek Leather Co. makes leather jeans
with the zippers already sewn into the seams. They cost more than
either chaps or jeans by themselves, but are about the same cost as a
pair of jeans modified as mine are. The ones from Fox Creek are the
best leather & workmanship I've seen in years. I may be replacing
mine with a set.

Anyway, jeans with the convience of chaps are *definatly* the way to
go. Give these guys a shout at:

Jinks,

What you are talking about is commonly referred to as leather overpants.
These are specifically designed to go over your jeans which affords you more
protection than chaps. They go on and off quickly and most allow access to
the front jean pockets. Rider magazine did a write up of these in their
Jan. 1999, vol. 26, #1 issue. The best buy seems to be "Joe Rocket Hustler
Overpants" at $199 list. Hope this helps, Frank

If I wasn't suffering from "done-lap" disease (stomach done lapped over the
belt-line), I'd go with leather pants.

Frank,
What I'm talking about are leather pants, or jeans, with their
own pockets. No need for access to the pockets in your levi's.
BTW, I've seen a few people in the leather jeans that you
don't wear levi's under. Real nice Poser gear, but they don't last
long on a *cold* ride.

I wear jeans, chaps, and Hanes briefs. The Hanes and jeans keep my "unit"
warm enough.

I ride in the cold quite regularly, although if the temp is under 20F, I
usually just go a few miles to the bar. My car has been broke for months and
I haven't bothered to fix it. Personally, I'd spend the extra cash on a good
pair of gloves.
