Too weird! I just installed a new MS Intellimouse on my Solo 9100XL
notebook, and it just totally freaked out! The pointer moves
uncontrollably, very fast across the screen, randomly opening things,
resizing things and running things that it gets close to. I tried
uninstalling the Intellipoint software, and it continues to act weird.
Before Intellipoint was installed, the mouse worked fine, but of course, the
wheel didn't work. I tried installing the serial adapter and then
reinstalling Intellipoint as a serial mouse and it works fine. But I really
don't want to have to lug the serial adapter around with me on the road.
Has anyone seen this problem before, and what's the solution?

Thanks,
SherryB

I had the very same problem with my Micron Xke when I loaded Intellipoint 2.2.
The solution was to disable my touchpad/pointer (it has both) in the BIOS. I
believe that it is mentioned in a text file or on Microsoft's site that there
could be a conflict. Anyway, the mouse works fine. I just have to remember to
enable the touchpad if I'm not using the mouse.

BTW, I have a Gateway also, which is why I check this newsgroup.

The mouse with wheel - ie MS Intellimouse is incompatible with the Solo
9100 and most of the other Solo's also. The worse thing that you can
do is install the Intellipoint drivers (makes the mouse go crazy). You
can use just a plain mouse and it will work fine. Tonya :~)

A temporary, but sure-fire fix for this problem is to disable the touchpad
in the bios. That will give you normal control with the external mouse
(wheel functions too).

I never had any luck getting the intellimouse to work without disabling the
touchpad... which became quite annoying after a while, and I kept forgetting
to re-enable it when I took my machine out.

The excellent solution that I found was to use the "wheel mouse for
notebook" made by logitech. It has both serial and PS/2 connections... both
have which have worked fine (with wheel functions) WITHOUT having to disable
the touchpad.

The mouse is about $40, but I think it's worth it.
