Hi,

I face a weird problem :
When network is "on" (eth0 is active, etc...), KDE is very slow when
launching KDE applications (konsole = 4 seconds to launch, rxvt < .5
seconds)
When network is "off", KDE is as fast as I want.

I have Mandrake 8.1 on an Armada m700. I'm connected via DHCP.
Turning "on" and "off" the network is done via "/etc/rc5.d/S10network
start/stop".

BTW, is there any clear document about the different places where network is
configured (like linuxconf, mandrake control center, /etc/files...) ?

Thank you for your help
Sébastien

Try checking if the host/domain names given in /etc/hosts are the same as
in your network configuration.

I had the same problem a couple of times, turned out that network
configuration with the mdk control panel resets the contents of /etc/hosts
to 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost, while I set my localhost to a
fancy name in network config. (mbi.compaq.ps).
