If people can ask about in-jokes, I missed this one. Truby's nothing
amazing, according to his stats. What has immortalized him as a "hated
one"?

And I feel bad about it, let me tell you.

Someday, someone's going to ask Chris Truby, "How come people talk so bad about
you on the Internet?" And Chris will say, "People talk bad about me on the
Internet?" And the first guy will say, "Yeah, some butthead wrote something
about you being involved with satanic dismemberment."

And Chris will say, "I thought only Albert Belle did that."

I think that it stuck because it's A) quite funny and B) quite true.
Somehow, though, it's turned into the latest inside joke. It's short
enough that I think that I'll quote it in full:

When did Albert Belle ever complain about how much he was getting paid? Talk
about a lightning rod for fans' complaints.

If somebody like Chris Truby was accused of satanic dismemberment, it would
take about a week before people started saying, "I'm so sick of all these
ballplayers like Chris Truby and Albert Belle with all their satanic rituals
and the dismemberment and everything."
