I was looking through some old baby notices from the papers from a couple
of weeks back and wow I noticed some very Trek baby names.

There were 3 babies named Kira

One named Jadzia

and one baby boy named Wesley

Would anyone here give their newborn a Trek name?

Kira was actually her surname/family name.

I'd love to but my wife would never understand
I've got a few mates who've calle their dogs
Dax and Jadzia ! I keep explaining to my wife
that if you get rid of the space ships in TREK then
it just boils down to people relating to people !

Depends on the name, what if it was one of the "normal" names on the
show?

ie. James, Miles, Julian, Geordi, Jean-Luc, Beverly etc...etc...

Yep, non-Trek (and indeed non-sci fi) fans don't seem to understand
that these "weird space shows" are just drama against a different
canvas.

Look at TNG, a lot of eps are basically soap opera, what does it
matter that it's on a space ship?

Yep. But it depends on the name though - eg. Kira and Wesley are
normal names.

I'd do it, but only a relatively normal name. eg. Jadzia would be
pushing it a tad.

Nerys. It's a Welsh name which means a lady. (Feminine from Ner - lord.)

Liked this before DS9. But my husband says no. But he's OK with Kirs. :o)

Yeah i might, obviously it would depend on whoever the father is. As long
as it wasn't too far out, I mean you'd hardly name your child 7 of 9 or
T'Pol or something like that :)
But I think Jadzia and Ezri are pretty names, and B'Ellana would be good
without the apostrophe, just Bellana.

That would be cruel, especially if you gave them the full name. Imagine
having to write down your name as "Seven Of Nine Tertiary Adjunct Of
Unamatrix Zero One". Centrelink would melt down. Hmmmmmmm. That could be a
GOOD thing.

OMG that reminds me of that cartoon on the Mr. Hell show.

"Timmy Tomorrow 25 Seconds Into The Future" I think the title's
correct

If you've seen the show you'll know who I mean...

Oh, I don't know. Frank Zappa called his son Dweezil and his daughter
"Moon Unit 2". Seems anything is the go these days. Bizarre to say the
least.

There was a baby girl named B'elanna Torres for first and second names, but
the surname was normal. I feel sorry for this little girl : (

Actually it was just Moon Unit and she left school a long time ago. Neither
Dweezil or Moon Unit ever seemed concerned about their names and having a
famous father, I don't think they got beaten up at school either.
