After a long wait the Linksys WET11 finally made it to my house. This is a
wireless bridge for items such as the xbox that have a built in ethernet
port.

After setting it up I tried using xbconnect and the gamespy tunnel software
with no success, got the 'can't find xbox' message regardless of the
settings.

- The xbox is working fine with both programs when on a wired connection.
(Played Halo online for the first time, really cool!)

- My laptop works fine when connected to the wireless bridge, have full
network and internet access.

Everything seems to work, but neither software can see the xbox behind the
bridge. I'm going to hang on to the WET11, since the laptop works I think
the XBoxLive should work without a hitch, just not systemlink.

Thought I'd relay my experiences. If anyone DOES get systemlink to work with
a WET11 I'd be happy to hear from them.

(Anyone in the Rochester MI area looking for another systemlink player? Love
to play more halo)

Bad news, I was worried about that. Any chance of asking Linksys for an
explanation?

We have had sucess with the 802.11b adaptor from linksys. Once w configues
it and set the port forwarding to 8602. Xbconnect works fine.

What is WET11 stand for? I am very familiar (and very expirenced) with
802.11b and it works fine. Are you sure your just not forgeting something
simple, like fowarding ports? (Once again, I am not expirenced with WET11)
Also, do you have the latest drivers for your wireless eithernet card in
your pc? -Sub.

Do you know if the system link cable is a patch or
crossover cable?

Or is it a Microsoft Proprietary?

Couple of questions and possible suggestions:

1. Are you using a linksys router?
2. Do you have the WEP security on ?
3. Did you change the router name (ie linksys) from the
default?
The linksys may rely on the default name?
4. Since I am not familiar with the new device is there a
button on it to search for the wireless?
5. Did you go to your linksys set up (router) and click on
the dchp to see if the box was listed, and if not then
release and refresh the settings?

Let me know if it works

----- Yep, it finds it just fine. Gives it IP 192.168.1.104. Tried it static
also, no go.

Nope. Still nothing.

Hello,

I'd be very interested in how you got it to work.

heard of people using an access point to do the same thing. How are you set
up?

Thanks,

WET11 is the model number of the new wireless bridge. How are you getting
your xbox on wireless? I've tried the port forwarding with no success.

My understanding is that the 8602 port is for the xbconnect program to
communicate with the internet properly. That's not an issue. My problem is
that xbconnect doesn't see my xbox on the local network. The router can see
the bridge, can even ping it, but xbconnect can't find the xbox through the
bridge. With everything the same, it works fine if I connect it with a
wire.

I'll try anything, would really like this to work!

Thanks,
Bill

The bridge appears to be blocking the Xbox and LAN broadcasts. Since
systemlink games work via broadcasting packets, that's all I can think of
off the top of my head, that would be causing it to not work.

Yep, I'm going to do that. While the setup disk works well enough to get it
working great with my laptop (pretty fast, <3ms access time) you're also
supposed to be able to get at more settings by accessing the firmware.
Unfortunately I can't get in, get the login window sometimes, nothing after
that. Have to ask if that is working yet since it was only mentioned in the
online manual, not the one in the box.

I'll post if there are any updates.

I'm not using the system link cable, just a standard. Same cable works on
the laptop. The bridge has a switch to go from X to II, if I more it I lose
the connection entirely.

I'm not the original poster, but I have the same setup. I can see the
packets from the XBox (the wierd 0.0.0.0.1 ones) making it all the way
to the ethernet card in the computer, but the tunnel still refuses to
see the XBox.

Tom,

Are you able to access the setup pages on the WET11? I get the login screen
and then just can't access page error.

Hi Tom and Bill.

What MAC address is being shown as the owner of the packets?
Your Xbox or the wireless bridge? Just curious.

I can't test this fully as I don't have this gear yet, my work my buy it,
then I can test it.

In the mean time, LinkSys technical support may be interested in any trace
files of the communication.
They just may be able to help out. I would go that 'route' pardon the pun.

FWIW, The default account for my linksys stuff was username BLANK (empty),
password "admin". There may be an admin user setup, but never tried it.

Sorry, but I'd just like to confirm...

I'm talking about the setup pages you access via the IP address of the
bridge. (192.168.1.107 for example) Not the set pages you get from the
setup disk.

Just want to be sure, because if that's the case I'm shipping this one back
to linksys.

Thanks,
Bill

It's the bridge's MAC address.

Yes, I can configure the WET11 through the static IP that I've setup 192.168.1.42

Hmm, is the MAC address on the bridge tweakable? Not saying it would work,
but you could try changing it to be the Xboxes MAC, stranger things have
happened. This may confuse the Bridge though.
